DataCite integration for Grants
Australia’s National Persistent Identifier (PID) Strategy — and similar strategies in other countries — emphasizes the importance of assigning DOIs to research grants and awards. This ensures grants are treated as research objects, improving transparency, discoverability, and linking between funding, outputs, and impact.
Currently, Esploro support DOIs for assets, but there is no streamlined workflow for minting DOIs for grants and creating grant landing pages. These landing pages would provide essential metadata (funder, award number, investigators, duration, amount, related outputs) and serve as the DOI target URL, aligning with DataCite requirements.

The Digital Science Australia National Persistent Identifier (PID) Benchmarking Toolkit has been developed in October 2025, recommending that DOIs be minted for all grants: https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.29281667.v3
