Show author & date in Normal view (RW3)
For users with hundreds of records, we need to identify references in a long list of similar titles. Author or date sorting doesn't help if that info isn't visible. Normal view could be more citation-like, please.
39 votesWe released an update to the normal view that shows the author and date in Normal view.

"Remove Field Codes" in WnC is an invaluable function for faculty and grad students. Please add to RCM.
Publishers do not want RefWorks field codes in submitted manuscripts. WnC provides this valuable function, but faculty and graduate students, who because of their platform must use RCM, do not have this feature. I submit that RCM must have this capability for this population of users.
24 votesRCM does not use field codes; it uses content control. To utilize this, you will want to follow these steps:
- Write your document in Word, as usual.
- Insert desired citations using RCM
- Select all contents in Word (Ctrl+a)
- Right click on the content
- Click on “Remove Content Control”:

In Normal and Full views, the folder name has always been displayed, however we recently changed the folder name to blue to make it more noticeable. We will consider showing the folder in Table and Citation views as well in the future.

Google Docs Tool -- Add the ability to include page numbers as part of the in-text citation
In APA if you are using a direct quote one should include the page number(s) as part of the in-text citation. In the Google docs tool, there is a space for adding page numbers for that very reason, but it's grayed out and unusable.
Our students primarily use Google docs for their writing so this would be super helpful.

APA 7th in-text citations do not include page numbers, unless there is a direct quote. Therefore the pages option is grayed out when selecting APA 7th. It is available for styles that include page numbers, such as MLA 7th Edition. There are two workarounds that allow editing page numbers when the style does not require them:
- Create a custom style with pages included and share it as an institutional style. For details refer to this section of the RefWorks Customer Knowledge Center: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/RefWorks/Product_Documentation/RefWorks_User_Guide/0900_Managing_Citation_Styles#Editing_Non-CSL_Citation_Styles. Note that this style would then apply to all in-text citations in the document, whether they are direct quote or not.
- Use the required APA 7th style and add page numbers manually for direct quotes only. -
Small Caps
Some citation styles require small caps, yet there is no mechanism within RefWorks to generate them. This is problematic.

Add Line Breaks to New RefWorks
Please add a line break function to the style editor. For those of us that have to submit Working Bibliographies for auditing, it would be great if we were able to export our large amounts of references with the abstract already on the next line as opposed to having to go back and perform line breaks manually after exporting.

Add more severe authentication
We have institutions which have multiple campuses or branch office and use a common institutional email address domain.
If only one campus/office of a large-scale institution subscribes RefWorks, it needs to restrict to access or create new account from other places.
I think that to add the authentication by all of the following required items would be resolved:
- access to the unique URL
- enter the invitation code
- enter the institutional email address domain10 votesRefWorks offers unique URL + access code + domain authentication for accounts creation.

'Create a new account' when linking to New RefWorks for the first time from a search tool (Google Scholar, Primo etc)?
From Google Scholar, Primo etc, when you click on the RefWorks link next to each search record, it takes you to the following page:
https://refworks.proquest.com/combined-export/?groupcode=RWMiddlesexU&detoken=XBLgJo9sJFPnYg1wJ%5B44
If you then select to export to the New Refworks, you are taken to the following page:
https://refworks.proquest.com/login/
However, this is problematic, as it does not offer the opportunity to 'Create a new Account'.
We think that users should be directed to the following URL instead: https://refworks.proquest.com/
10 votesLogin page defaults to user's account for export, if already logged in. Login page also offers create account link in the same way as https://refworks.proquest.com/

Edit in-line citation output style
There are some ways to edit the in-line citations (ex: supress author, add suffix), but no way to edit the overall display format like there is for the bibliography format in the output styles. An example of how this is useful is when I want to cite multiple sources but have a semi-colon between references rather than a comma, since I am delineating specific page numbers and am already using a comma for that.
Additionally, it would be great to see a preview of both the in-line text and the bibliography in RefWorks for a given output style, rather than…

I would suggest offering individual accounts.
I have now used Refworks at 2 different institutions in 2 different states for over a decade. I love it and it is all I have ever used. I do worry, though, about losing access to thousands of references if the institution I am currently accessing it through decides to go with a different platform or vendor.

Enable Option to Delete User Accounts
Currently Refworks doesn´t have the option for delete user accounts. Even if you send invitation for new users, you can not delete invitations.
Is extrange because, you can give admin privilegies to account but you can not delete it.

Accounts Created per Month in new Refworks
The "Accounts Created per Month" statistics are offered by Legacy RefWorks but not by New RefWorks. These statistics are really useful to evaluate the RefWorks usage in our libraries and they are the second more important for us after the "New References".
We like to have these statistics in New Refworks too.

Improve CTR Harvard
Being reluctant to create an institutional version of CTR Harvard, can the RefWorks supplied version of CTR Harvard be improved to make it more accurate? eg by making book/article titles sentence cased? or by the making the journal title, title cased? This is already done for APA.
4 votesRefWorks offers settings for casing: UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, and Sentence case. More information can be found here: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/RefWorks/Product_Documentation/RefWorks_User_Guide/0900_Managing_Citation_Styles#Field_Parameters

Automatically switch from Title to Short Title in repeated references
In Chicago Notes & Bibliography style, repeated references are supposed to display a shortened title.
For example, the following book:
Barbie Zelizer, Remembering to Forget: Holocaust Memory through the Camera's Eye (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2003), 7.
Subsequent citations after the first should appear as:
Zelizer, Remembering to Forget 7.
Please add an option to replace the Title field with the Short Title field in repeated references. (Or better yet, use AI to automate shortening titles!)
4 votesUsers may set repeated references preferences in Citation Style Editor. More information can be found here: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/RefWorks/Product_Documentation/RefWorks_User_Guide/0900_Managing_Citation_Styles#Editing_Custom_and_Out_of_the_Box_Styles

To move/copy references between projects, export the references from the initial project where they are placed and import them into the other project(s), or use sharing. When a newspaper article has no author, automatically move the newspaper title to the front (depending on referencing style)
In Harvard Cite Them Right, newspaper articles with no author must appear like this:
Newspaper Title (Year) ‘Article title’, date, page numbers.
But in refworks they appear like this:
Anonymous (Year) ‘Article title’, Newspaper Title, date, page numbers.
this is incorrect and could lead to people failing to pass their course, or having to redraft an entire bibliography for publication.

If the DOI field does not appear in the reference pane, click on “Add more fields…” and add the field. After entering all or part of the DOI, you can click on the lightning bolt icon to find possible matches.
