← Have an idea for Ex Libris?

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).


How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s). 
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.


The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

**Please be aware that ideas with no comments or votes for the past three years, and have less than 30 votes, will be closed. The closed ideas will still be available for review, and the votes will be freed up for supporting other content ideas.

How can we improve Content?

  3. Add Open Access eBooks from the Publisher Wallstein Verlag, Göttingen, Germany to the Knowledgebases

    The Wallstein Verlag has published a number of open access eBooks in the humanities, and the number is increasing.
    It would be fantastic if these OA eBooks could be made available as an eCollection in ALMA.

  8. Aerospace Medical Association (ASMA)

    The Aerospace Medical Association is moving their content from Ingenta to KGL Meridian: https://asma.kglmeridian.com/. Once the content is pulled from Ingenta (originally scheduled for removal on 1/1/2025), we want to ensure users can still locate journal articles.

  10. Oxford Scholarship Online Yearly subject specific collections for years prior to 2022

    Most of the Oxford Scholarship Online subject specific collections only have yearly collections that go back to 2022 (for example Classical Studies has a 2022 and 2023 collection). Could yearly collections for the years prior to 2022 be added to the Alma CZ? We are particularly interested in yearly subject specific collections for the following subjects:

    Business & Management
    Classical Studies
    Economics and Finance

    Linguistics
    Neuroscience
    Philosophy

  12. CDI collection for Elsevier Open Access articles

    Could you please add a CDI database only collection with links in record for Elsevier open access articles?

    There is no longer an Elsevier open access knowledge base collection https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/574345-content/suggestions/43048611-add-elsevier-open-access-collection-to-alma-cz

    And I think this would work better as a CDI collection given how many OA articles there are in hybrid journals.

    For example, 76,000 archival articles were made open as the result of a large United States Library consortia agreement:

    And these OA articles should be more easily discoverable via a dedicated CDI link in record collection.

  13. Sage Business Cases Indigenous Business Stories Project

    Sage, one of Ex Libris's existing provider partners, has launched a new free Business Cases collection, the Indigenous Business Stories Project. According to Sage, this is a free collection that features studies of businesses founded by Indigenous entrepreneurs. Sage says this collection will give students an understanding of sustainable, community-driven business practices. This collection will expand the global business perspectives represented in CZ content, and because it is free to access, many libraries will likely be interested in activating it in the CZ.   14. Target/Collection: ASTM journals hosted on ASME platform

    ASTM (American Society of Testing and Materials) is in the process of moving their journals from their ASTM Standards and Engineering Digital Library database to another society's (ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers)) platform, see https://asmedigitalcollection.asme.org/astm-journals .

    There are portfolios for the ASTM journals set up under the ASME Digital Collection Journals collection (Collection ID: 611000000000000172).     Brill now has a collection called Qurʾānic Studies Online (URL http://referenceworks.brillonline.com/cluster/Qur%CA%BE%C4%81nic%20Studies%20Online?s.num=0) which contains 3 resources:

    1. Dictionary of Qurʾanic Usage, http://referenceworks.brillonline.com/browse/dictionary-of-quranic-usage
    2. Encyclopaedia of the Qurʾān, http://referenceworks.brillonline.com/browse/encyclopaedia-of-the-quran
    3. Qurʾān Concordance, http://referenceworks.brillonline.com/browse/quran-concordance

    Right now, the Brill Online Reference Works database (JQX), which only has 19% coverage in Summon, includes these this way:

    1. Dictionary of Qurʾanic Usage (9789047423775 Book)
    2. Encyclopaedia of the Qur’ān Online (1875-3922 Journal)
    3. Encyclopaedia of the Qur’ān. Supplement I - Early Western Qur’āns (Book)
    4. Encyclopaedia of the Qur’ān. Supplement II - Qur’ān Concordance (Book)

    There's also a separate database (FNQ) called Encyclopaedia of the Qur’ān, which contains 52 titles and says…
