Show all Availaility information of library catalog records.
When there are multiple availability information on library catalog, one of them shows up on results page and the others are hidden in current Summon interface.
It is favorable for library if all the availability information would be shown as default.11 votesThis was included as part of the User Interface improvements in the December 2021 Summon Quarterly Release. Availability is now available under each result.

Add Section number to Course ID in Course Reserves page
The Course Reserves page in Summon is a nice improvement for Summon Over Alma customers. In Summon, only the Alma course code is displaying as the Course Number. In the attached example, you can see that Bio 220 has 3 sections. It is not clear in Summon which section number corresponds to which course number. Please add the section number to course number in Summon.

Add "sent from" box in "email this item."
Currently, if you want to email an item to another person, there is no space to indicate who the sender is.

sorting results by publication date
The sort by publication date newest/oldest in Summon does not sort by the displayed publication date but by the merged record date which is invisible to the end user.
The user is seeing the results screen and so it seems really odd to provide a publication date sort and then not allow the user to sort by the date that they can see since the behavior on the backend is entirely and completely transparent to them and doesn't seem to serve the user well by any stretch.
There needs to be a true publication date sort that uses the displayed…

Usability of Advanced Search
Certain elements of the advanced search screen are very difficult to use on mobile devices, particularly the 'Content type' and 'Discipline' multiple check-box options, where scrolling through a long list is problematic.
Is there a way to improve this, perhaps by using a larger pop-out box that can be scanned at a glance?1 voteCompleted as part of the November 2022 release.

Label peer-review results as such
On the results page, add a label to each entry that is peer-reviewed (like you do for "open access" content).

Clearing search will not let the user enter a new search directly
When the user clicks the x that clears the search-field in order to make a new search, the cursor is not placed in the search field. The user has to click in the search field in order to write something. The way this works it is quicker to just select the text in the search field and erase it by hitting the Back space.

Consistent link back to search results
The user leaves the search result and goes to detail page, advanced search or saved items. Then when the user wants to return to search results this is done in three different ways. We would like the link back to search results look the same in all three situations. The one we prefer is the one in the detail page.

Offer the option of having the library location facet expanded by default
We would like to be able to have the libraries under LIBRARY LOCATION visible by default on the Summon results page

filter results by vendor and/or database name
The ability for Summon to filter results by vendor and/or database name (IEEE, ProQuest, Taylor...).
38 votesAs part of the upgrade to the Central Discovery Index (CDI) we added a collections facet that filters by database.

Display edition and publication year in brief results, for books and ebooks
I have been told by Ex Libris support that Summon only exposes the edition in the short summary for records that have a content type of 'Book'. This makes it difficult for patrons to determine which edition is the most recent, where both books and ebooks are available. See attached image for an example of how both can be displayed, to reduce confusion.
24 votesEdition, volume and publication year are now displayed in the brief result.

Include Oxford Reference content in the Topic Explorer
Oxford is an important reference source that would add scope and value to the topic explorer.
5 votesThis is live as of March 6, 2019. To select this as a source for Topic Explorer, if you are a subscriber, simply go to the Topics section of the main Settings page in the Summon Admin Console, and drag and drop Oxford University Press from the Disabled column to the Enabled column.
-
Include PMID in Advanced search
Add PMID explicitly as an option under Advanced Search along with DOI and others. PMID is heavily used by health sciences fields.

Summon Advanced Search for Courses and Instructors
It would be great to have "instructor" and "course" fields as an advanced search for patrons via Summon/Alma, as we currently offer that option as part of Voyager.
26 votesIn 2018, in addition to the instructor and course facets in Summon/Alma, we added the ability to browse or search by instructor or course. This can be found on a separate course reserves page via a tab at the top of the Summon search results page.
The page lists all courses by default, but these can be filtered down by typing in your search term.
-
In search results, make the journal title a link that takes you to a "Search Within the Journal" search page
This would be similar to clicking on the author name to find additional articles by that author, but with the added "search within" capability.

Language selection
We have received complaints about the difficulty in changing the language on the Summon-page. It's not intuitive to have to click on the language you already see in order to get the other alternative/s. We would like the alternative you click on first to be called Change language or maybe just "language". As it is now, if I want to change language from Swedish to English, I first have to click on Swedish to get to the Language-menu and be able to chose English.

Results Beyond Your Library's Collection
Add "Results Beyond Your Library's Collection" as a filter to the "Refine Your Search" Area.

Make facets user friendly
We would like the facets in Summon to work more in the way they do in Primo. In Primo the included or excluded facets are shown above the search results in little boxes with an easy to understand cross to remove them. Similar solutions are used on several database platforms, so our users would recognize how to use the feature without thinking too much.
In Summon it’s not intuitive to remove a chosen facet. If you have included a facet and want to remove it and you hoover over the text, you are tempted to click on the red dot…
19 votesWe have released a revision of facet behavior, including removing the hover to include and exclude and providing a better way to select either include or exclude.

Provide an obvious way to return to search results from Saved Items folder
Currently, in the Saved Items folder, the only way to return to the Summon search results is by clicking on an unmarked X on the right-hand side of the screen. This is confusing to users because there are so many other Xs on the page which remove or clear saved items.
We suggest providing an obvious way to return to the search results from the Saved Items folder. This may be accomplished by making the browser’s “back” button work or by adding a “Return to Results” link.
26 votesWe added a large label to the X that says “Back to Search Results.” If you prefer a different label, you can change this in the “translations” section of the admin console.
