Proposal: Enhanced Digital Preservation Analytics in Rosetta
I would like to propose an improvement to Rosetta that could help institutions better manage their digital preservation workflows. While Rosetta already provides excellent tools for ingesting, storing, and preserving digital collections according to standards like OAIS, PREMIS, and METS, many libraries and archives still rely on external tools or spreadsheets to analyze important operational trends.
My idea is to create a built-in Digital Preservation Analytics Dashboard. This dashboard would allow users to visualize storage usage and growth trends across collections, track fixity check results over time, monitor format risks based on the Format Library, and report on preservation actions such as migrations or normalization tasks. Having these insights directly in Rosetta would reduce the need for manual reporting and improve overall transparency.
The benefits of this addition would be significant. Institutions could make more data-driven decisions for storage planning and preservation priorities. Staff could quickly identify recurring issues and take corrective actions before they escalate. The dashboard could also generate reports or export charts, helping institutions communicate preservation activities to stakeholders.
Overall, integrating analytics directly into Rosetta would streamline operations, improve efficiency, and support long-term preservation planning. I believe this feature could bring real value to the community and make daily workflows more manageable for preservation teams.
