  1. Make Alma link resolver compatible with EndNote's "Find Full Text" feature

EndNote offers a "Find Full Text" feature that allows users to locate full text for citations saved to their library. The feature can be configured to work with your institution's link resolver. However, according to EndNote customer support, the Alma link resolver is not currently compatible with this feature. This enhancement would allow Alma customers to locate full text for EndNote citations via openURL.

  2. Add Breadcrumbs (Collection Path) to Alma Viewer

Like Hansel & Gretel, would be good for users to have a trail of breadcrumbs to follow home.

That is option for Alma Viewer to display the context of the item (which collection the item belongs to if any) as defined by Alma Collections and published to Primo discovery collection lobby.

This would enable the user, provided with a deep-link to an item in Alma Viewer, to browse related items (other items in the same collection) in Primo or return home where applicable.

  3. Increase the 10MB email attachment limit for digitization requests

Currently the limit for email attachments when filling digitization requests is 10MB. We would like institutions to be able to choose their own limit that suits their own institutional email policies (e.g. Otago's attachment limit on their email server is 30MB). Other institutions may wish to have a lower limit so it should be possible to set a limit that is appropriate up to a maximum value that can be supported by the Alma email infrastructure. Our staff frequently bump into the 10MB limit which leads to them cancelling digitization requests in Alma and then manually emailing the attachment to…

  4. Analyse and normalise special characters and diacritics in Alma records

In order to enable correct and consistent automatic linking between Bib. headings and authority records, Alma's treatment of diacritics needs to be normalised, and made configurable according to the Authority file being used. In addition there are special characters in use (such as quotation marks), that have more than a single graphic representation that should be normalised in order to prevent discrepancies in Almas' match and link mechanisms.
SFC#00533813, SFC#00375370 relate to the issue.

  5. Do not publish to Primo bibliographic record if all its representations are inactive

If a record does not include any material that the end-user can display or access, then it should not be searchable in Primo.
For physical inventory, there is an option to enable the suppressBibWithSuppressedHol setting which means that if all physical holdings in a bib record are suppressed, then the bib record will automatically be suppressed from discovery.
This idea asks to add similar option to digital content (Alma-D): when enabling the suppressBibWithSuppressedRep setting, any bib record that all its digital representations are inactive, will be automatically suppressed from discovery.

  6. Digital itemized sets

Currently it is impossible to create an itemized set of digital titles/representations/files as the option of Rep ID header is not recognized by the system.

  7. Rights information in MARC records to display in Alma viewer

    1. Rights information for digital objects may be recorded in MARC fields:
      a. 540 (https://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd540.html)
      b. 542 (https://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd542.html)
      c. Possibly some other places too.
There are only limited options in Configuring Delivery Profiles Metadata for MARC profile. - https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Alma/ProductDocumentation/010AlmaOnlineHelp(English)/030Fulfillment/080ConfiguringFulfillment/070DigitalFulfillment?uxp=true#ConfiguringDeliveryProfiles_Metadata There are no options to choose which MARC tags appear in the description area of the viewer.

We would like to be able to configure the display of these fields in the Alma Viewer.

  8. Ex Libris should provide the option to place a call and/or online chat with their support team

We are disappointed with the technical support service provided by Ex Libris. We strongly believe that Ex Libris should provide customers with more effective, prompt and interactive service.

There should be an option to call or chat online in real time with a support person who has a sound understanding of the product in question. This would be in line with all system vendors we have previously dealt with.

We appreciate that there will be some issues that are designated as bugs or enhancements and will require more in depth investigation. However, a direct call/chat option with a properly trained…

  9. Add generic physical material types to the current table

My libraries circulate various pieces of equipment from microphones, to musical instruments, to 3D printers, to lockers, and the current physical material type table does not suffice without adding a slew of item policies or location codes, which is messy and makes the resulting analytics more painful than it should be.

Ex Libris support states that "The [physical material type] codes cannot be changed, because Development needs them for statistics across libraries." However individual libraries will have items that they need to distinguish between either for fulfillment rule purposes or our own statistics.

I would like there to be about…

  10. Add separate fields in Analytics for valid (020 $a) and invalid (020 $z) ISBNs

At present Analytics displays all ISBNs recorded in a bib record in a single field, whether valid (020 $a), i.e. the true and accurate ISBN for the manifestation recorded, or invalid (020 $z), i.e. an incorrect ISBN or an ISBN for an alternative manifestation.

It would be useful to be able to search and display these separately (for matching using collection management tools, etc.).

  11. Add a linking job for mass linking of NZ records to IZ

Currently the only way to use records from NZ in an IZ is to search them in the NZ and perform an action like "order" or "link" on every single record one by one. There are, however, situations where an IZ wants to use a bulk of records. For this purpose we need a possibility to link records in bulk and create inventory for the linked records.

We imagine a linking job that takes as an input a logical or itemized set of records saved from a search in the NZ. The linking job can create physical and electronic (and…

  12. Adding more scheduling options for emailing Scheduled Reports (Alma Analytics Objects)

Currently, there are limited scheduling options for emailing Scheduled Reports (Alma Analytics Object area). Many of our users need reports delivered on the 1st of each month in order to capture the previous month's data. The only option right now somewhat close to that is delivery on the 2nd of each month. This doesn't work for us because it adds the first day's worth of data from the next month to the previous month. I propose adding delivery options for the 1st of each month. Better yet - how about offering a drop-down list where users can choose a certain…

Hi everyone. This will be considered. First a comment and a question.
Regarding “how about offering a drop-down list where users can choose a certain day of the month for report delivery”.
This will not happen. Jobs of this nature need to be scheduled so that resources can be properly distributed.
Regarding adding additional time, that may happen. Now a scheduled report has the following possible options. What would you like to see added and or changed?
    Every Monday at 03:00
    Every Monday at 07:00
    Every Monday at 09:00
    Every Day at 03:00
    Every Day at 07:00
    Every Day at 09:00
On the 02 of every month at 03:00
On the 02 of every month at 07:00
On the 02 of every month at 09:00

  13. Change item information RESTORE change type should allow clearing temporary item information.

When using the Restore change type under Change item information, the only change made is toggling the "item is in temporary location" back to NO. Any values filled in for temporary library, temporary location, temporary item policy, temporary call number, etc. remain. Restore should clear those fields, or allow operators to keep those fields by unchecking a box that would be checked by default.

If the item has been scanned to have an item policy for special circ rules, that information remains in the record when it is restored, even though that information is not applied. If the item is…

  14. Add "Search within results" box on a set

    Hello,

It would be very useful if we had a search box of "Search within results", on a set we created with indication rules.

    Thanks.

  15. Alma emails: provide matching plain-text alternative to reduce spamminess

Currently Alma emails only include an HTML-formatted variant. Anti-spam software will typically penalise messages that do not contain a plain-text variant, increasing the odds that the message will be marked as spam. Providing a plain-text variant would also benefit users of plain-text only email readers. The plain-text variant should resemble the unformatted content of the HTML-formatted variant. If they differ this might suggest that the sender is perhaps sending an innocuous text in the plain text part just to get through spam filters, and again, would be penalised for this.

  16. Decouple the bib-level material type of Music into Scores and Sound Recordings

The bibliographic material type of Music inexplicably combines scores (Leader/06 c or d) and sound recordings (Leader/06 i or j) into a single facet. This makes no sense and makes standard statistics reporting extremely difficult as scores are usually reported with books (they are, after all, pieces of paper bound between covers) whereas sound recordings are usually reported with other media. Scores should be separated out as its own bib-level material type.

Thank you for this ideas exchange request.
    For the purpose of clarification:
Alma uses (among others) two levels of faceting the bibliographic records: Material type and Resource type.

Regarding the Material Type: There are seven different distinct bibliographic material types in Alma, and this corresponds to the seven different distinct bibliographic material types used by the MARC standard. These MARC standards are explained at https://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bdintro.html under section “Scope of the Bibliographic Format”. Ex Libris will leave these distinct seven formats, and not add or subtract from them. This is because there are seven distinct formats in the MARC standard. For this reason we will not add another format or change the name of an existing format. Each bibliographic record has one bibliographic material type. The Material Type is considered “Music” if the LDR pos. 6 is one of the following: c d i j. This is explained in the Ex…

  17. Ability to delete items by scanning-in

At present items can be withdrawn/deleted in two ways:
    1. Manually, an item at a time (or multiple items only if in same holding)
    2. In bulk, from a set created either directly from search results or from a spreadsheet.
There is no way to rapidly delete items-in-hand.

A feature in Alma to quickly delete items-in-hand, in quick succession, with the same safeguards as when using existing deletion methods.

The attached document gives more details and a mock-up of such a feature - it would be a big bonus to those of us with a lot of weeding to do!

  18. Add ability to reorder Description Template Setup Rules using drag and drop

The Description Template Setup Rules list must continually be reordered, since the first (sequentially) rule for which the enum/chron combination meets all criteria is used for the description, even if the enum/chron would more exactly meet a later rule. Regardless, is is also helpful to order the list so that similar rules are grouped together, so reordering would desirable as rules are added or removed.

Currently, the only way to reorder the list is to move a selected rule up or down in the list, ONE PLACE AT A TIME. This is time consuming and inefficient.

    Please add the ability…

  19. Enter 12 hour time with AM/PM

We have already changed our display to 12 hours in the General configuration (General/Other Settings/systemtimeformat is changed to hh:mm:ss a and it operates correctly.) However, there are still many cases when Alma requires us to input a 24 hour time.

For example, when we check out an item and need to change the due time, there is no way to input 12 hours with AM/PM. (Screenshot example: http://screencast.com/t/9B9XC2qbl) We must enter 24 hour time. This has caused an ongoing problem of inputting an incorrect due time (such as "17:00" when we mean to input 7PM), causing stressful…

  20. Failsafe links to databases if/when Direct Linking fails

When we were a Serials Solutions customer and we used Summon discovery, we also used Direct Linking. What was great about Summon was that it would provide a pane at the top of the screen after linking to full-text content that would provide a way to see all the database targets on the 360 Link page. See attached image.

This same feature would be highly desirable in Primo and is one of the main reasons why we do not currently use Direct Linking. Currently, if the full-text fails to load for the default target, there is no way to see…
