Adding 'own' Covers to Alma records!
Dear,
This question might be related to:
We would like to have the ability to add covers in Alma (and display those in Primo) for all kinds of records.
Br,
Alma Digital (soon to become Alma Specto) provides multiple methods for managing book covers or other digital material which are complementary to the print.
- Auxiliary representations. These won’t be indexed in Primo as online services, since they don’t represent the complete content of the record. Using the display logic rules, users can define whether they will be displayed via the quick access service or online section in Primo/
- Other representation types – You can deactivate the representation, in which case it won’t be indexed or appear in Primo, however a thumbnail will be generated using the file.

When we looked into using Alma D for the book covers a couple of years ago, we had to upload the same file to each of our 9 IZs as well as the NZ so this approach was scratched. Has anything changed in Alma D/Specto that would allow us to upload the cover to the NZ and be used in all the IZs directly from the NZ?

Thanks, Erez. This requires a subscription to Alma Specto though correct? It seems like functionality that should be included with Primo without additional cost.

We (the CSUC consortium) are also very interested about displaying our local covers collection in ALMA (and PrimoVE)

This functionality is very much needed for local language materials. These books are usually not available in Google Books oder Syndetics. For Consortia supporting public and school libraries, it's vital that we can display bookcovers for books published in Iceland in Icelandic.
As it currently stands, Alma-D/Specto is of no help either as it does not support consortia setup (Network Zone and several Institutions Zones), with Bib residing in the NZ. -

Please develop this - we are starting to work with Collection Discovery and OER resources, and would like to add book covers where they aren't found by Syndetics.

I hope ExLibris offer a solution for this issue. Many old editions, foreign language titles and small presses don't have book covers available through PRIMO. It makes any Discovery Collection sort of drab compare with other collections that use current English language books.

We have tried a couple of options to add cover images to records.
Option 1. Adding an 856 42 with a link to a thumbnail image and an associated Primo links:thumbnail normalization rule.
Option 2. Adding an image as an "Auxilary" digital representation in a digital collection.
Both of these workaround approaches are not ideal.
