← Have an idea for Ex Libris?

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).


How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.


The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category. The ideas for new providers will be annually prioritized via the CERV process.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

  1. Add CDI Collection for Factiva Academic

    Could you please explore the possibility of creating a CDI collection for Factiva Academic with links in record (no portfolios)? Many publications in Factiva have "Selected coverage" and therefore are not available at the title level in the CZ collection (Collection ID: 61111037301464000). This means a significant amount of content is not being represented in the KB and I think moving this to a CDI collection would improve overall coverage as well as have more reliable full text linking.

  2. Please enrich records of "Exploring Race in Society" collection

    Thank you for adding the EBSCO Exploring Race in Society collection (616180000000000029) in CZ. However, the quality is not great. Out of 70 titles, 61 titles have brief level 3 and below. They are brief records with title and publisher only.

    Please work with the vendor to enrich the records.

  3. Newsbank article level linking in CZ e-collections

    Please explore adding article level linking via the parser used by NewsBank CZ e-collections? Currently they offer only journal level linking.

    Hello,

    After thorough discussions we concluded there is no sustainable way to add article level linking in CDI for NewsBank.

    The Webhook solution would be the best way to retrieve these results.

  4. Add S2O years/volumes from Annual Reviews to the Annual Reviews Open Access Collection

    Annual Reviews Open Access Collection ID: 615300000000000045 has 9 active portfolios, however 29 titles are available open access for the year 2023 (with more to come). Could you please add these titles with Open Access beginning in 2023? The articles in these 29 titles for 2023 are open access now, and they will remain open access no matter whether the S2O goal is met for the 2024 volume. It is much more efficient for Ex Libris to do it than for individual libraries to add and edit the availability dates.

  5. Create collection for Nexis Uni Plus

    There's only one collection in the CZ for Nexis Uni (collection ID 613780000000001685) but there are two versions of this product available from the provider: Core and Plus.

    The Plus version includes extra content and, from my spot testing, it seems the current CZ collection is for the Core version.

    Please create a new collection for Nexis Uni Plus and rename the existing collection as Nexis Uni Core.

  7. Enrichment of records for Ibuk Libra collection in Community Zone

    I propose to enrich the MARC records in the Ibuk Libra collection with additional metadata (ex. author) in Community Zone. Currently, when we activate a local collection of books from Ibuk Libra in Alma (based on a purchased list of e-books), we see only basic metadata in Primo. As Ibuk Libra it is one of the largest and most frequently used databases of e-books in Polish and is often used by students, such supplementation of data will be very useful.

    Unfortunately, Ebsco does not supply Ex Libris with CDI metadata.

    However, these resources are aptly represented in CDI:

    America History & Life has 92% alternative coverage for the content in that database, and Historical Abstracts has 98% alternative coverage.

    Hello,

    Alexander Street is only able to provide MARC records for individual collections. For Alexander Street packages made up of multiple collections, such as Letters and Diaries Online, customers must activate all the individual Letters & Diaries CZ collections that comprise the package. 

    You can use the My Electronic Resources by Provider tool to automatically activate the collections.

    Therefore this collection will not be added to the CZ.

    Please consider adding the

    China Statistical Yearbooks Database from East View Information Services to the Alma CZ.
    This database has over 2,000 journal titles in Serial solutions (Code ~AN), but I am not finding a match in Alma.

    The metadata file we received from EastView is missing Traditional Chinese and Pinyin.

    Therefore we cannot add it to automation in SFX/Alma.

    Hello,

    There was a collection in Alma for Advances in Chemistry Series, but it was deleted in 2022.

    We were informed by ACS that they no longer distinguishes their books as Advances in Chemistry and Symposium Series; all books are now under the ACS eBooks collection. 

    Since we do not receive a separate feed for Advances in Chemistry Series, we cannot maintain such a collection.

  16. CDI records request for InteLex Past Masters collection

    Our client University of Guelph has requested the CDI provide record coverage for the InteLex Past Masters CRKN collection (Collection ID: 615410000000002433)

    MARC records for the titles included in InteLex Past Masters website directly: https://www.nlx.com/marc_records/4.

    Please work with Dan Haig at InteLex to acquire data for the CDI to enrich user discovery for this collection.

    Therefore we will not add this resource to CDI.

    This is a new package that is being offered starting July 1 2023. See https://about.jstor.org/librarians/journals/jstor-community-colleges-collection/ -- while it comprises distinct collections that are probably already in the CKB, it will be much more convenient for us to order and maintain if it is a distinct CZ collection.

    JSTOR confirmed that the requested collection JSTOR Community College Collection is in fact the same as the JSTOR Archival Journals and Primary Sources Collection.

  19. Request the improvement of user experience for "lancet"

    Currently, as per the design of 360 Link, the title is changed to "Lancet" and ISSN is removed if the title contains "lancet" and ISSN is 0099-5355 (for North America) or 0140-6736 (for British).

    Because of this design, users need to select an exact title from a large number of suggested journal titles on the 360 Link from PubMed on their own.
    This is because the setting to every related title of "lancet" is set "lancet " as the alternative title.
    This design sometimes helps the user experience, but the negative impact is also huge for the user.

    This collection has been included in the KERIS license DB for the university.
    But it's not available even though Proquest provides it.

    "Music and Dance Online" is a sales package, not a specific product. It is comprised of multiple individual AS music and dance products, and you must activate all the relevant individual products.
