We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).

How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.

The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

  1. Please enrich records of "Exploring Race in Society" collection

Thank you for adding the EBSCO Exploring Race in Society collection (616180000000000029) in CZ. However, the quality is not great. Out of 70 titles, 61 titles have brief level 3 and below. They are brief records with title and publisher only.

Please work with the vendor to enrich the records.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

Unfortunately, Ebsco provides us with KBART files only, and we will not be able to enrich this collection without their support of MARC records delivery to us.

    Hello,

"Music and Dance Online" is a sales package, not a specific product. It is comprised of multiple individual AS music and dance products, and you must activate all the relevant individual products.

    Hello,

Wiley will not send us updated metadata for such a collection, and we cannot create it without their support.

So unfortunately, I will have to close this idea as we are unable to fulfill it.

  4. Add JSTOR Community College Collection

This is a new package that is being offered starting July 1 2023. See https://about.jstor.org/librarians/journals/jstor-community-colleges-collection/ -- while it comprises distinct collections that are probably already in the CKB, it will be much more convenient for us to order and maintain if it is a distinct CZ collection.

    Hello,

JSTOR confirmed that the requested collection JSTOR Community College Collection is in fact the same as the JSTOR Archival Journals and Primary Sources Collection.

Therefore I am closing this idea as this is already available.

    Hi,

Any issues with updates of existing collections should be addressed via a support ticket in Salesforce.

There is a collection called "Chronicle of Higher Education" (DBID: DBV) and this request should be regarding adding a new portfolio to an existing collection.

I apologize for this inconvenience, but opening a case would be the best way to investigate the delayed update to this collection.

    Kind regards,

    Rachel

  6. Enrichment of records for Ibuk Libra collection in Community Zone

I propose to enrich the MARC records in the Ibuk Libra collection with additional metadata (ex. author) in Community Zone. Currently, when we activate a local collection of books from Ibuk Libra in Alma (based on a purchased list of e-books), we see only basic metadata in Primo. As Ibuk Libra it is one of the largest and most frequently used databases of e-books in Polish and is often used by students, such supplementation of data will be very useful.

  7. Peeters E-Books

Alma has already an electronic Collection for Peeters Online Journals.

Therefore I ask you to add the following three collections to Alma:
    Peeters Online E-Books
    Peeters Online Open Access E-Books
    Peeters Online Series

You find the necessary content on https://www.peeters-leuven.be/index.php. As it is an existing provider, I suppose that you have already some contact information. On the website I only found very general contact information.

  8. Add S2O years/volumes from Annual Reviews to the Annual Reviews Open Access Collection

Annual Reviews Open Access Collection ID: 615300000000000045 has 9 active portfolios, however 29 titles are available open access for the year 2023 (with more to come). Could you please add these titles with Open Access beginning in 2023? The articles in these 29 titles for 2023 are open access now, and they will remain open access no matter whether the S2O goal is met for the 2024 volume. It is much more efficient for Ex Libris to do it than for individual libraries to add and edit the availability dates.
Here is the list of titles with open access for…

  9. OECD iLibrary going Open Access

I sent this to the Content email listserv. And reply from Elizabeth York.

    Thanks for consideration.

    Hi Denise,

Thanks for reminding us of OECD's switch to OA! If OECD wants to provide entirely new collection files to KB vendors, they could, and Ex Libris could load them, but based on the information provided by OECD, I am not sure whether that's necessary; it sounds like the content is not changing, but it is switching to OA. Assuming all the OECD content continues to be available at the same links, we could possibly simply remove our authentication methods (service-level proxying, in…

  10. Add CDI coverage or portfolios for Qwest TV collection

There is a database collection for Qwest TV, Collection ID: 615300000000000195, but the collection has no CDI coverage or portfolios. Adding CDI coverage or portfolios or both would be useful and make the content discoverable in Primo.

  12. Include all content type on CIAO platform

There is content on the CIAO platform besides journals and books. Content includes videos, research papers, policy briefs, working papers, country data and maps, etc. These do not appear to have individual portfolios. Could portfolios be created for these items to aid discovery?

Please create a collection titled The Cancer Letter for two portfolios that are now in the collection "Miscellaneous Ejournals". Please make other changes outlined below as well.

The existing provider is The Cancer Letter, Inc.

    The two existing portfolios are:
The Cancer Letter: Portfolio ID: 53613678640007861
The Clinical Cancer Letter: Portfolio ID: 53613678610007861

They are both currently in Miscellaneous EJournals:
    Collection ID: 61613678680007861
    MMS ID: 991060498721707861

The Clinical Cancer Letter became a section of The Cancer Letter in 2018, and that portfolio 53613678610007861 currently links to the Cancer Letter Archives. That is fine.

Can a third portfolio be created in…

    Hello,

Unfortunately, Ebsco does not supply Ex Libris with CDI metadata.

However, these resources are aptly represented in CDI:

America History & Life has 92% alternative coverage for the content in that database, and Historical Abstracts has 98% alternative coverage.

You can find that information in the CDI list CKC page

More about Alternative coverage can be found here:

"Review" would be more accurate for items that are part of the Editor's Choice section of each issue of the Science Signaling journal. According to their website, the Editor's Choice section is editorial commentary on research. Can the articles from this section of the Science Signaling journal be relabeled as "review" to increase clarity?

    Hello,

There was a collection in Alma for Advances in Chemistry Series, but it was deleted in 2022.

We were informed by ACS that they no longer distinguishes their books as Advances in Chemistry and Symposium Series; all books are now under the ACS eBooks collection.

Since we do not receive a separate feed for Advances in Chemistry Series, we cannot maintain such a collection.

    Hello,

Annual Reviews still require a subscription to have access to the full text.

Although now in S2O model, if support is insufficient, the paywall is retained.

Marking these records as Open Access is misleading, especially if the paywall is retained due to insufficient subscribers.

Therefore I am closing this idea.
