Stop indexing “Book reviews” in CDI
These documents generate a lot of link problems. Each review is generally indexed separately and is the subject of a separate CDI record.
Problem 1
This creates confusion for users, who believe they have access to the reviewed work, but it is usually only a brief summary, which creates frustration (in addition to polluting the database because the title they are really looking for is often buried among numerous review records).
Problem 2
This creates problems with links. Book reviews on journal websites are often grouped together in a single section of the issue, and the links in the CDI records do not point to these sections but to a deep link to the review of the work, which generally does not exist.
Hello,
Though I understand the concerns raised in the idea, removing this material type entirely from CDI would not serve end users well.
Book Reviews are still a valuable content type for discovery, and the Content Working Group tends to agree with this decision.
That said, the Content team will review what options we have to improve the user experience for book reviews.
Kind regards,
