← Have an idea for Ex Libris?

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).


How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s). 
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.


The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

How can we improve Content?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

    Hi Naavah,

    Updating existing collections need to go through opening a support case so unfortunately I cannot update the collection without going through SalesForce.

  2. Indexing the content directly

    Please consider indexing the content for the title, American Journal of Play. As stated by ex libris in my recent case, "we do not have any providers that can send us records for the 2008 -2011 content of American journal of play." "I checked in CDI and the majority of our records for American journal of play come from ProQuest. ProQuest only has full text and citation coverage starting in 2012. Gale also indexes content from this journal, but they only start indexing content in 2014. With content on EBSCO, we have to rely on alternative coverage, because EBSCO does…

  4. Open Library of Humanities

    It seems Open Library of Humanities, https://www.openlibhums.org/, hasn't updated their title list in the 360 KB since 2020 (last full update was in 2015) (DB code ABAGC).

    Zygon is now part of Open Library of Humanities and we would like to be able to connect our users to it via Summon/360.

    I sent a message to Andy Byers via the OLH contact form, https://www.openlibhums.org/contact/, but also wanted to ask you all to follow up with them.

  5. Add recent titles to Ancient Near East Monographs open access series from SBL

    Database code AFDYK hasn't been updated in the 360 KB in several years and there are new open access titles in the series available from the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL) published between 2019 and 2023: https://www.sbl-site.org/publications/Books_ANEmonographs.aspx

    Our faculty and students have a high interest in these books.

    Hello,

    "ひつじ研究叢書" is series title and the provider 丸善 is introducing it for sale or for marketing.

    You do not have to buy all the titles of the series, so there is no need in a new collection.

    Please select the relevant titles in 360, SFX, and Alma Marurzen Ebook Library (DBID:MOSFZ), and activate according to your agreement with Maruzen.

  7. Enrich HathiTrust CDI Records

    Hello,

    Could Ex Libris please work with HathiTrust to enrich the records in their various CDI collections (including DBID: J3O)?

    The records are currently very brief and lack subject headings, tables of contents, abstracts, etc.

    Hello,

    We were recently informed that Hathi trust halted the development of their MARC feed for Ex Libris until further notice. So unfortunately, we will not be able to improve the records in CDI.

    Duke University Press is migrating their journals from Highwire to Silverchair. The Highwire Press Geological Society of America collection is not gong to be valid and their links are not going to work in 2018. Please update the collection name and links.

  17. Distinguish (master) theses from dissertations in Proquest Disseration publishing (PQDP)

    In Proquest Disseration publishing (PQDP) they distinguish source type from degree. That means source type is always theses and dissertations. Primo Central use publication type dissertation for all PQDP records. PC should distinguish dissertations from theses, like a master thesis, in publication types.

    Add the INIS database to discovery. INIS is the world´s leading information system on the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology. INIS maintains a database of over 3.3 million bibliographic references, 1970-present. Full-text documents represent around 10% of the collection. Covers journals, books and especially strong in non-conventional or grey literature including technical reports, patent documents, pre-conference papers, and non-commercially published theses and laws.
