  1. Opt out of Catalog Match-and-Merge but Keep Full-Text Augmentation

One of the most valuable features of Summon is the full-text indexing augmentation of physical collection catalog records. The feature allows discovery of many items that wouldn't be found otherwise.

Unfortunately, if a site opts out of catalog match-and-merge, it loses full-text indexing of its physical collection. I propose separating the configuration of the two features so that a site could opt out of merging its metadata with metadata from other sources but still take advantage of the full-text augmentation.

Unfortunately we researched this approach and it would have an adverse affect on indexing and performance overall. One of the goals here (from my understanding) was to keep the benefit of full text while avoiding some of the less desirable metadata (such as what shows up in the facets). We are taking approaches to solve those other problems through other methods. Please add any ideas you’d want us to be sure we’re targeting.

  2. Support IPv6

Our Institution just added a few IPv6 addresses and will expect more in future, we hope Summon can support IPv6 so that our patrons can be authorized by Summon via IPV6 addresses.
