  1. Customisable per-record merge options in Search Resources

We would like it to be possible to get external resource searching (Search Resources) to merge only specific fields from a given record.

By which we mean: when clicking on View to view a record from an external resource, or alternatively when clicking on the elipsis next to a brief result, the options include Copy & Merge.

The Merge Method which is enacted by selecting Copy & Merge at this point is set on a per-external target basis in Alma's External Resource configuration setting, e.g. the Merge Method for the British Library Integrated Catalogue could be "overlay all fields but…

  2. Merge & Combine inventory enhancement to allow the records the split screen editor use a drag and drop featuer

It would be great to have an easy way to change the primary bib record when using "Merge & Combine" in the new MDE. Implementing the ability to drag and drop the bib records in the split screen editor would allow users to more efficiently change which record is on the left-hand side (primary record)and which record is on the right-hand side (secondary record).

Currently, you need to close the primary record using the X so it remains in the record list, then click the split screen editor, and then open the record that was the primary record into the…

  3. Assigning Authority Control Tasks to Specific Staff Members

At the end of each month, I go into the Authority Control Task List, dismiss headings I don’t want my staff to work on, and export the other headings to an Excel spreadsheet, which we work off directly.

It would be helpful if there was a way to assign tasks to my staff directly and have it appear in the general task menu on the Alma homepage. For example, if there were 200 headings to update, and I wanted to split them between two staff members, I could select the first 100 in the Authority Control Task List and assign…

  4. Don't Close My Bib

    Hello,

when I add a Holdings Record to a bibliographic record I click "save and release" when I'm done working with the new holdings record. This then takes me back to a blank search screen, so then I have to search again for the bibliographic record I was working on. It would be helpful if there was a way to go back to bibliographic record I was working on.

  6. New Metadata Editor - Search Resources, Merge Preview

In the new metadata editor, when you search external resources and select merge preview you cannot see this record next to the one that is already in the system. This is due to the fact that the "Search Resources" box remains active. In order to compare the records you really need to see them side by side. This was possible with the old metadata editor. Please see attached screenshots.

  8. Metadata Editor should allow to move up or down a field position in a bib. record, like in a spreadsheet.

When there are multiple fields within the same group number, like 5XX, 6XX, 7XX fields, it would be particularly useful to organize also the fields' position in the bibliographic record manually in each group in an easy way, like drag and drop in a spreadsheet. When improving my record with a template, for example, the added fields come always last of their group. In order to follow the rules of AACR II and RDA, more flexibility in changing the position of the fields in the record (not only copy/paste) will be helpful.

  9. Validation exception based on conditions in linked authority records

There are certain types of authority records, such as facets, that should not be utilized in bibliographic records. MARC 21 Authority offers some options for supporting that, such as 008/15="b" ("Headings are not appropriate for use as a subject access entry in bibliographic records") and 008/09="b" ("100-15X field contains an unestablished heading that is not authorized for use as the element in an access point in a bibliographic record").

However, when authorizing authority fields in the Alma Metadata Editor, there does not seem to be a way to prevent such records to be authorized.

One way to prevent this would…

On mouse hover on a record in the left pane on an entry/record opens pop-ups, which also covers a part of the editor window. In general, it should be possible to activate/deactivate pop-ups according to individual needs.

In repository search (and elsewhere) when you push a record to the new MDE it is possible to collapse these messages by default.

Please offer an option to collapse the pop ups on mouse hover in the list of records of the New Metadata Editor as well.

  11. New Metadata Editor: highlighting options vs filter/search options

In the left pane of the New Metadata Editor in the list of edited records, filter options and the search option "Search in list" are actually superfluous for everyday cataloguing work in the New Metadata Editor. In my opinion, they only make sense when systematically processing a large number of records (sets). It should be possible to collaps/expand them.

However, it would be helpful if individual entries could be highlighted in the navigation bar, e.g. in colour or with a symbol. This would make it possible to find a particular recording very quickly, e.g. if several recordings with homonymous titles…

When publishing data for external parties, we would like to be able to combine data from different tags in the holdings record into a single tag in the published record. 14. Use 041 subfields $$p, $$q and $$r in Search Index Mapping

From the April 2019 update of Alma onwards, the Metadata Editor now recognises the following subfields in the 041 (language code) field:

$$p - language code of captions,
$$q - language code of accessible audio,
$$r - language code of accessible visual language (non-textual)

These were all added to MARC during 2018.

  15. Allow the contents of MARC subfield 041 $$h to be considered for Search Index Mapping

The contents of 041 subfield $$h ("language code of original"), however, do not. This discriminates against those works which are translated from an original language into the one stipulated in 041 $$a subfield.

There are plenty of titles in our stock where information regarding the language of the original material is no less…

  20. Working with 2 or more name authority files : Implement new Marc21 subfield $2 -

Marc21 Format change from May 2019 introduced a new subfied $2 in bib headings.

$2 contains the source of heading of term in name or name-title and title headings (http://www.loc.gov/m.arc/bibliographic/bdapndxg.html)

This subfield $2 already exists for use with 6xx headings, 2nd indicator 7. With this format change, Marc21 introduce the $2 in 100-700-800/110-710-810/111-711-811/130-730-830 fields.

In Alma, links with Name/Titles authority file can be made only with 1 unique file, unless you use the Authority Priorities. Unfortunately, Authority Priorities is not convenient to all situations.

Other linking possibilities based on $2 value would be more consistent for authority control.
