How can we improve Alma?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Related Digital Record Support

    For physical and electronic records there is a support for "related records" functionality / analytic cataloging (represented by 773 MARC field).

    We suggest to add this important functionally to digital records, so that the digital representation will be displayed in the View-It section of the related record as well as in the View-It of the main record (just as it is done for physical records by inheriting the inventory to the related record).

  2. Customisation of Alma patron deposits page

    We would like to have the ability to customise the Alma patron deposits page, including:
    - Logo + other branding elements eg. footer with University/Library details, link to privacy policy etc.
    - Access to the landing page html to include deposit instructions and/or embed video tutorials
    - Option to add links to help, contacts, policies for patron deposit
    - Option to include a chat widget
    - Css styling
    - Sign in options to mimic Primo (in our case we might want to use SAML + Alma login)

  4. Rights information in MARC records to display in Alma viewer

    1. Rights information for digital objects may be recorded in MARC fields: a. 540 (https://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd540.html) b. 542 (https://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd542.html) c. Possibly some other places too. There are only limited options in Configuring Delivery Profiles Metadata for MARC profile. - https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Alma/Product_Documentation/010Alma_Online_Help_(English)/030Fulfillment/080Configuring_Fulfillment/070Digital_Fulfillment?uxp=true#Configuring_Delivery_Profiles_Metadata There are no options to choose which MARC tags appear in the description area of the viewer.

    We would like to be able to configure the display of these fields in the Alma Viewer.

    As part of Alma June release you can configure the Alma viewer to display Terms of Use and Copyright information in the Descriptive Information pane in the Alma Viewer. This information is taken from MARC fields 540 $3 $a $f $u and 542 $3 $f $u respectively. To support this new feature, two new rows were added to the Delivery Profiles Metadata table for MARC records. Enable these rows to display the Terms of Use and Copyright information.

  5. Customize Alma Viewer with Mashup CSS file

    Use Alma's Mashup CSS file (or other CSS file) to customize the Alma Digital Viewer (default, OTB viewer).
    As for today, this is not possible and there is no way to hide the login area or to customize the header.

  6. Add MMSID header when creating digital titlles sets

    Currently, when we import digital material records as digital representations which is digitized from the physical books, first, we usually create all titles set using the “MMSID”header, to put the physical titles into a collection. But only digital titles can run the withdraw digital representations job. So it would be very useful to add MMSID header when creating digital titles set. And then we can use this set to apply the withdraw digital representations job. Or add “all titles”content type in withdraw digital representations job instead.

  7. Translations of Collection Name and Description (Alma-D)

    The translations of collection name and title is not possible. For multilingual Primo sites this is not satisfying, since all content can be displayed in the according language, but the collection lobby with its collection names and descriptions not.

  8. Add Digital Representation ID as a search option in the Digital Resource Editor

    From the Digital Resource Editor currently you can only search via the label. Addition of option to search for on the Digital Rep ID should also be supported this would make it much easier to find a specific digital rep record when you have large nos associated to one Bib Record.

  9. Universal Viewer: Hard Coded 'Attribution - All Rights Reserved'

    The Universal Viewer for Alma-D images has a hard coded 'Attribution - All Rights Reserved' statement that appears for each image the universal viewer is configured.

    The Attribution statement should only appear for those representations, a copyright statement is defined.

  10. Allow MARC21 for Enduser Deposit Profiles

    By now, deposit profiles only support Dublin Core. In order to be congruent with existing MARC21 meta-data, deposit profiles should also support MARC21.

  11. Display filesize for digital records

    Display the filesize information for Alma digital resources.

    Ideally this will display in both the ViewIt iframe in Primo beside the file name information.
    And display filesize from within the Alma Digital Viewer.

  12. Alma –D display copyrights by default – Users are confused on what to do next – possible solution

    Displaying the copyright notice by default for Alma D records is a good step forward.

    But we have found our users are a bit confused on what they should do next when they see the notice.

    We would suggest the following would help:

    Move the ‘Close “option to the top of the screen (users don’t always move down the screen)

    Change the word from “Close” to “Accept”. This makes it a bit more obvious for our users on what to do next.
