Alama Viewer Caption Support
Please add caption support to the Alma Viewer.
Hi,
We have added support for captions both in the Alma viewer and the Universal Viewer. See further details here - https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Alma/Product_Documentation/010Alma_Online_Help_(English)/Digital_Resource_Management/040Creating_Digital_Inventory/Editing_Representation_Metadata_and_Content#Managing_Digital_Files_from_the_Digital_Representation_Resource_Editor
search for vtt.
Thanks,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
I am glad to hear this feature is being worked on! VTT files works for me. My only other suggestion would be to have the captions follow some of the rules on this webpage
https://www.elo.iastate.edu/resources/best-practices/design-best-practices/create-ada-compliant-video-captions/. For instance sans serif font, character line limits, and font size that is readable.
Thank you,
Matt

Hi,
We're working on design for captions in the Alma Viewer, starting with vtt files which is the format most supported by html5 / browsers. Most other formats such as SRT can be converted to vtt prior to ingest.
Multi-lingual support will also be added at a later stage.
Please let me know if you have any questions or requirements which you would like us to take into account.
Thanks,
Daniel -

Agreed. As a work around we can upload a version of the video that burns-in the captions to the video, but that effectively doubles the storage needs of the repository.
This should be basic functionality based on accessibility requirements that many institutions are required to follow.
