Content

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).

How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.

The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

  1. Create a collection "Sample Free issues" or something similar by splitting in 2 the present "Free E-Journals" collection

A new electronic collection shall be created for all the E-Journals that are actually traditional paid journals but provide sometimes sample free issues or sample free articles (just for example, Journal of Dairy Science (CKB)954925412861 ) and that right now are included in the collection "Free E-Journals". The "Free E-Journals" shouled be cleared of these titles that should form a separate collection.
This would on one side enhance consistency of the collection Free E-Journals, where only real free EJournals would be available, and on the other hand provide a new useful but separate collection with EJournals providing just sample issues…

  4. Target/Collection: HeinOnline Current Content (Provider: Hein)

Please add this collection to the KnowledgeBase.

Journals in the HeinOnline Law Journal Library collection typically have a one year embargo. Libraries may subscribe to the most recent content of individual journals (with no embargo) through Hein's "Current Content" program. This is similar to JSTOR's Current Scholarship program. Could Ex Libris work with Hein to create and manage a HeinOnline Current Content electronic collection in the CZ, similar to the JSTOR Current Scholarship Program Complete electronic collection in the CZ?

Currently, I manage these subscriptions by updating the local coverage dates in the HeinOnline Law Journal Library electronic collection, but…

  8. Please quit using print records (or old combo print-electronic records) in the CZ to represent serials in electronic format

My understanding is that the CZ records are to represent electronic formats, but most of them seem to be records for the corresponding print title. ISSNs are either wrong (print, where it should be electronic) or the record has both the print and electronic ISSNs in the $a subfield. The OCLC# is usually that for the print record.

All of this causes problems with matching and dedupping when attempting to import and/or order actual print copies.

Please go to electronic only records for the CZ.

    Hello all,

Following extensive analysis and discussions with the CZ Management Group and some internal developments, we are glad to announce that starting in the Alma January 2020 release, the Community Zone will begin to process conversions of CONSER records from print to electronic.

For more information please see the following CKC article:

  9. Naxos Music Library

Please add the Naxos Music Library, which is a major online source of music recordings which will be of interest to most universities teaching music.

    See https://www.naxosmusiclibrary.com/

It has quite complex metadata because it has CDs containing several pieces of music, each with several tracks, and it has links between different recordings of the same piece of music. As the metadata they have is quite rich, it would be very good to see this exploited in Primo with child/parent linking and records for works as well as recordings. But even just getting the data in at the level of the…

  12. MedicinesComplete (Pharmaceutical Press)

We have the MedicinesComplete database selected in Summon but the content is not discoverable. we have had to load detailed marc records for each of the ebooks and added a best bet in summon to give a link to the MC site. Key titles include Martindale and BNF which ideally would be searchable using Summon

  13. E-Book Target for SFX. Several publishers via Preselect

We are missing the SFX-Target for the e-book packages for the scholars-e-library from the publisher UTB https://www.utb.de/bibliotheken/. Although there is a target in SFX for another product from UTB utb-studi-e-book the portfolios from the scholars-e-library are missing in SFX.
The publisher eventually informed us that they are not responsible for the delivery of metadata for this package and referred us to the service platform Preselect http://www.preselect.com/en. Preselect offers also an bunch of other packages from 36 publisher. The half of these affects licence contracts of our libraries which have also no target in SFX.
    Please add all these…
