  1. Include Oxford Reference content in the Topic Explorer

Oxford is an important reference source that would add scope and value to the topic explorer.

  2. Summon Advanced Search for Courses and Instructors

It would be great to have "instructor" and "course" fields as an advanced search for patrons via Summon/Alma, as we currently offer that option as part of Voyager.

In 2018, in addition to the instructor and course facets in Summon/Alma, we added the ability to browse or search by instructor or course. This can be found on a separate course reserves page via a tab at the top of the Summon search results page.

The page lists all courses by default, but these can be filtered down by typing in your search term.

  3. Consistent link back to search results

The user leaves the search result and goes to detail page, advanced search or saved items. Then when the user wants to return to search results this is done in three different ways. We would like the link back to search results look the same in all three situations. The one we prefer is the one in the detail page.

  4. Displaying all links available in Summon results page

We would like to suggest ExLibris to enhance in Summon results page by displaying all fulltext links subscribed in the knowledgebase. Having only one fulltext link available when there are multiple sources available to choose from can help maximize the use of the library’s resources and most important offer users a solution when the 1st link presented doesn’t work. EJP is already doing this.

It’s kind of a problem also. The situation happened this week when the Proquest research platform was experiencing connectivity issue and performed a temporary maintenance. Because Proquest fulltext links are direct linking, the user was not…

  5. Language selection

We have received complaints about the difficulty in changing the language on the Summon-page. It's not intuitive to have to click on the language you already see in order to get the other alternative/s. We would like the alternative you click on first to be called Change language or maybe just "language". As it is now, if I want to change language from Swedish to English, I first have to click on Swedish to get to the Language-menu and be able to chose English.

  6. Summon results not displaying custom coverage dates

On Summon results, show custom coverage dates next to links so researchers know what they should have access to before clicking on an e-Resource. The EJP seems to do this. Without this feature this is causing much frustration and confusion for users.

  7. Add public note text to Summon results

Display public note text onSummon results to show users access restrictions or special instructions that users should be aware of before clicking on an eResource link. This same info on the preview pane may be an option.

  10. Add visibilty of local notes to item detail view

Many libraries add additional notes to MARC records to enhance the findability of items and relevance of search results (e.g., a ToC or chapter listing when not already part of the record). Make these visable to the user.

This functionality has been added. To turn on public notes, go to the Admin Console under Settings > Search Results. At the bottom, there are options to “Display eResource Public Notes” and “Display eResource Location Notes”. Change the setting from Default to Custom and set the option to Yes, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.

  11. In search results, make the journal title a link that takes you to a "Search Within the Journal" search page

This would be similar to clicking on the author name to find additional articles by that author, but with the added "search within" capability.

  13. Provide an obvious way to return to search results from Saved Items folder

Currently, in the Saved Items folder, the only way to return to the Summon search results is by clicking on an unmarked X on the right-hand side of the screen. This is confusing to users because there are so many other Xs on the page which remove or clear saved items.

We suggest providing an obvious way to return to the search results from the Saved Items folder. This may be accomplished by making the browser’s “back” button work or by adding a “Return to Results” link.

  14. Make facets user friendly

We would like the facets in Summon to work more in the way they do in Primo. In Primo the included or excluded facets are shown above the search results in little boxes with an easy to understand cross to remove them. Similar solutions are used on several database platforms, so our users would recognize how to use the feature without thinking too much.

In Summon it’s not intuitive to remove a chosen facet. If you have included a facet and want to remove it and you hoover over the text, you are tempted to click on the red dot…

  15. Bring back the "preview" visible on hovering over the title

Our users really miss being able to see the preview in the right-hand pane when they hover over the title in their search results. Please bring it back, or last make this optional!

  17. Book reviews spotlight

A rollup of book review content, with any book reviews removed from the main results set and presented in a spotlight. The spotlight would present the top 3 to 5 results with summary informatino and a "more" link to see all book reviews.

  18. Page feed interface for search results page

Currently, Summon displays hidden search results by scrolling down the search results screen. It would be good if users and administrators could select "page feed type" as an interface for displaying hidden search results at their discretion.

  19. Make it possible to construct a search box for all online material plus physical material from one location only

At present it is possible to construct a search box which excludes all physical material from one or more library locations. Unfortunately it also excludes physical material found at both those library locations and others, when these share a bibliographical record in the LMS. Make a truly location-specific search box possible.
