Citation – Bibliographic record overlay enhancement request
Request:
As a Library Staff member, I would like functionality that allows me to enhance the bibliographic information in Leganto citations by identifying, retrieving, and overlaying institutional bibliographic records. I would want this functionality to be added to the Leganto interface to allow me to process a list entirely within this environment.
We are aware of the “process and enrich citations job”. However, this job can be disruptive to citations where we are not supplying access via institutional holdings. We also want the ability to resolve bibliographic issues with citation on a case-by-case basis.
Situation:
When a citation has been added to a reading list in Leganto the bibliographic details need to be manually edited to either enhance the bibliographic information or correct any errors.
When we place orders with our supplier, we are initially supplied with brief bibliographic records. If we add these records to Leganto prior to being supplied with enhanced MARC21 records, these citations will remain as brief records. This is also the case with items that are added externally via “cite it” or citations added manually by users.
As a result, we have ended up having citations of variable bibliographic quality referring to the same title. This makes it difficult identify and retrieve all instances of a title cited in Leganto. It also leads to an inconsistent user experience.
Currently, the resource locate function allows you to associate a citation to institutional holding but does not allow you to enhance the citation bibliographic information by overlaying the MARC21 record.
None of these steps allows me to use the institutional bibliographic record to correct the bibliographic errors of the manually added Leganto citation.
