Nested Smart Tile - Improvements
Review the development of the Nested Smart Tile to deliver a simpler, more usable feature with the following abilities:
• It should display as a normal single tile (with the same styling properties available/parent config inheritance) but enable other tiles to be ‘assigned’ to it. On clicking the single tile (or the Sidebar instance), it should open up another view within the Home Page, where the assigned ‘sub-tiles’ can then be seen. This is the expected nature of a ‘grouped’ tile.
• It should have the ability to react to Role allocation, so that only Users with Roles assigned to the Nested Smart Tile see it (as now), but when clicked, only the sub-tiles assigned to the Users roles should be displayed (with no gaps). Our own management would ensure that every Role assigned to the Nested Smart Tile had sub-tiles available within it.
At present the Nested Smart Tile seems to deliver a way to create ‘quick links’ to things, instead of being a way to group tiles as originally requested by customers.
If this is not possible, the existing Nested Smart Tile feature requires much improvement:
• The ‘Action (URL)’ field does not offer the ability to browse for the link to any tile we wish to nest within it. At present we have to go into Content and create a fake link in a test page to be able to identify the tile URL required.
• The Nested Smart Tile does not pick up any of the ‘parent’ App/Profile configuration set in App Builder. Neither does it offer any of the same styling properties as normal tiles, allowing us to match this to our platform branding.
• Nested items are placed within a circle and we are unable to change this shaping to match our platform branding/style (of square tiles). As a result, the icons we use for our current tiles do not fit properly.
• As above, an element of Role referencing is required, otherwise we can only use this tile for users/Roles who are able to access all the items/tiles assigned to it. At present, all sub-items/tiles show for all Roles assigned to the Nested Smart Tile, but when an item is clicked that they don’t have access to, a ‘Page Not Found’ error is presented which is not a good user experience and will lead to unnecessary enquiries.
• The description of any nested item/tile cuts off after a very small number of characters, making it unclear where it leads. A larger/longer space is required for this.
• Use of an arrow to scroll through the items/tiles in the Nested Smart Tile is not a good user experience. Users should not have to scroll to see what’s in there. It should be clear and up-front. The sizing of this tile should allow a double layer if more than 4 items are nested, to enable them all to be visible.
In addition, The Nested Smart Tile does not work with the Sidebar feature in the Web App - When clicked, nothing happens, so would require hiding.
