1. Change Holdings area to match Items

   Editing Holdings requires knowing all of the codes for your institution's locations and libraries. If the Holdings area were more like the Items area then the choices for locations and libraries would be on pull down menus. A History tab similar to the one on the Items screen would also be helpful.

   Navigating within the Holdings edit screen is difficult because one has to know or look up all of the codes for the institution's libraries and locations. This difficult navigation affects all customers. The lack of a History tab makes it impossible to track changes to the library, location, and call number. Ironically, the date and operator who moves an item into or out of a temporary location is tracked in the Item History tab, but someone who changes a permanent location is not tracked. We need the same functionality for all of these changes.

2. Tools/Excel results need to include holdings ID(s) and item ID(s).

   The ability of Alma to export search results to an Excel spreadsheet is one of its strong features. In order to remove the necessity of still having to run an Analytics report, all such Excel spreadsheets need to include the holdings ID(s), holdings permanent location(s), and item ID(s), in order to present a clear and full picture of the extent of the holdings of a given title. This is analogous to the Hierarchy in Voyager which was incredibly useful to us--the Excel with the additional information will be even more useful and efficient than the hierarchy has been since it will enable us to work with full data on a set of titles rather than just one title at a time. Also, why is the Barcode column in the Excel twice for a physical items search result?

3. Option to change item policy in batch

   User can have the option to select all the items under a holding record and change the item policy batch for them all at once.

4. Better clarity of which holding an item belongs to.

   We would like the item details page to include the holding ID number, or the holdings page to include the item barcodes. Or some other solution to this confusion. When we migrated to Alma, a number of records were created with multiple identical holdings, one for each item. This causes confusion when we want to move items between holdings as there is no way of knowing which item is connected to which holding – the order they appear on the page is not the same for items & holdings.

5. Allow retention of original holdings record when the last item is moved to a different holdings record

   As a user who is changing locations in item records, I would like the ability to retain the original holdings record when the last item gets moved to a different holdings record.

   STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM TO BE ADDRESSED: When an item is moved from one holdings record ("holdings A") to a different holdings record ("holdings B"), AND the item being moved is the last one (leaving holdings A bereft of item records), there are two different ways that Alma treats holdings A:

   1. If the item is moved by selecting from a list of items and clicking on the "Move" button, holdings A is retained.

   2. If the item is moved by changing the permanent location field—either directly in the item record via the Metadata Editor, or by using the Change physical items job—then holdings A is deleted.

   Another aspect of treatment 2 is the contents of holdings B. If the combination of call number, copy number, and new library/location already exist in a holdings record for the same bib, then that existing holdings record is "holdings B"; nothing is done to holdings B itself, except for attaching the items. But if a new holdings B needs to be created because that call number, copy number, and new library/location don't already exist, then that new record is an exact duplicate of the original holdings A.

   This is a very serious problem, because in those cases where an exact duplicate of the holdings record is not created as part of the job that moves the items, holdings data is lost. That situation can be quite common in mass move projects, where work may be done in stages; or when there is a rolling retention policy (e.g., current volumes in one location, older volumes in another). There may be very important public and/or staff information in the holdings record, include retention policies, acquisition information, donor information processing instructions, etc. And for large runs of serials, there may be a massive amount of detailed holdings information in many separate 866 fields. Once a holdings record is deleted, it is gone forever.

   SUGGESTED SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM: Allow for the retention of the original holdings record when the last item is moved to a different holdings record. This option could be chosen as one of the specifications in the Change physical items job. It may also be helpful to allow the Suppress from Discovery flag to be set during the job.

6. Alternative way to withdraw items from ALMA

   It would be useful to have a withdraw items button displayed when a library needs to withdraw items from its collection. When viewing items from the search results page, instead of clicking Actions and choosing withdraw item from the drop down menu - can we have a button next to the existing move items button for a quick withdrawal of items.

7. Standardize item record navigation

   Currently when navigating the list of items the position of the numbers and arrows changes position depending on how deep you are in the records. For instance when you go from the first page to the second page the arrow will jump to the left due to the records being displayed adding another digit. This happens again when you hit three digits in the record display. So if you are paging through focused on the content you can all of a sudden jump to the end of the list without ever moving your mouse. I'm asking for this to be standardized so that the position doesn't move while paging through the list.

8. Physical Item Editor - activate Confirm button upon Save action

   In the Physical Item Editor, upon Clicking the Save button, please automatically activate as default the "Confirm" button in the Confirmation Message pop-up window.
   In the same way that all other Confirmation Message pop-up windows already have the Confirm button activated, so all you have to do is hit the enter key to select it. (Instead of having to make another click on the Confirm button.) This would help improve efficiency.

9. Should be able to fill in all fields in item records by typing.

   Currently, location fields in item records can only be filled in by choosing from a menu. It would be helpful if it were also possible to simply type in the location when it is known. That way the change from one temporary location to another could be done by a macro, which would save a LOT of time when processing a cart of books with the same location change.
