We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).

How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.

The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category. The ideas for new providers will be annually prioritized via the CERV process.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

If you want to add an institutional repository, please open a case and follow the documentation here:

**Please be aware that ideas with no comments or votes for the past three years, and have less than 30 votes, will be closed. The closed ideas will still be available for review, and the votes will be freed up for supporting other content ideas.

  1. Add RVMFAST authorities to CZ

Please consider adding RVMFAST to the list of controlled vocabularies mainted in the CZ by Ex Libris.

For French and bilingual institutions in Canada, RVM is an essential tool. While the main RVM authorities are available only to subscribers, RVMFAST is a freely available French translation of the FAST vocabulary. The authorities and updates are available for download from RVM's website (https://rvmweb.bibl.ulaval.ca/rvmweb/rvmfast/supplements_rvmfast.do?locale=en). Adding RVMFAST to the list of controlled vocabularies managed in the CZ would save institutions the work of maintaining local authority files and enable easier adoption.

    Hello,

We previously explored the possibility of adding RVC vocabularies.

However, the compensation they require is not sustainable for us, and as a result, we’re unable to proceed with including their vocabularies due to the associated fees.

  2. Souls Journal

Please consider adding "SOULS: A Critical Journal of Black Politics, Culture, and Society Journal" as a new OA portfolio. It has switched publishers from Taylor & Francis to Columbia University and is now fully OA. URL link is here: https://www.soulsjournal.org/

    Hello,

This resource could be added to the Community Zone collection: Free E- Journals, Collection ID: 61110976638852340

I would recommend reading the Knowledge Article that details best practices to add titles to this collection

    Hello,

The use case for adding an AI tool as a collection in the Alma CZ is unclear.

Since it is neither a resource that qualifies as a collection or database, nor does it provide curated or managed content, it seems more appropriate to treat it as a research tool to be added locally—either within the IZ or on a library webpage.

If you have a different perspective, please feel free to contact me directly at

  4. New bib for ejournal Bulletin de la Societe chimique de France

There is already a community bib for Bulletin de la Société chimique de France (99110985822454602), Paris, Masson. This covers 1907-1933.

Is it possible to source a new bib for [pt. 1] Bulletin de la Société chimique de France. Mémoires, ISSN 0366-3132 which covers 1861-1891?

    Hello,

Unfortunately, there were not enough details to follow up on this request.

It seems more suitable for a support ticket, can you please open one?

Or reach out to me directly for further analysis

  6. Add chinese classification field in the electronic reousrces bib

Now the classification in electronic reousrces bib is Dewey or LC,It cannot satisify the need of chinese library users of ALMA,espicially when we need to provide statistics of subject. The need is frequently and urgent in chinese libraries. We hope ALMA can collabrate to other organises to impove the function, which might help add the users of ALMA.

  7. Next Expected Update date for collections

Similar to the "Last Full Update" and "Last Partial Update" dates for collections, it could cut down on the volume of cases about new individual titles if the collections that get updated on a regular schedule also had "Next Expected Update" date to display.

    Hello,

Expected update frequency is not part of any standardized metadata from content providers.

Furthermore, update frequency depends on the content being updated on the platform and due to the nature of the publishing industry, it cannot be committed to in advance. Even regularly updated collections may skip an update cycle because there's no new content added to the collection.

As a result, adding expected update frequency for book collections or journal collections can be misleading as it is hypothetical and may create false expectations.

Therefore, I am closing this idea as 'expected update' cannot be accurately added to collections to create a useful and reliable indication.

    Kind regards,

  8. Add chapter and contents information to book records

Chapter and contents information is extrememly useful to our users but is often missing from records. We'd like records to be enriched with this information where possible.

    Hello,

Some providers cannot send us granular metadata for book chapters and contents.

If you have a specific provider in mind, please post a new idea.

    Thanks,

    Hello,

I can confirm Ex Libris is not planning to add any new material types in 360, therefore I am closing this idea.

  10. provide a display or report of indexing coverage

it would be great to have a way to look up the coverage dates of indexing for a given journal in CDI. This would help us know when to direct users to other indexing sources.

  11. CZ AMD bib material type revised

There are many AMD related collections (Collection ID: 61616107200003966; Collection ID: 61616086800003966 and so on) in ALMA CZ. We found many resources bib material type are defined as JOURNAL, which is wrong compared with the real situation(They may be manscript, document ,photograph in the database platform). However, we cannot upload electronic material type in batch to replace.

We think CZ should confirm and fix the wrong bib material type.

  12. New LexisNexis / Nexis Uni linking solution

It feels like a very small minority of links to Nexis Uni content resolve successfully. I've opened a number of support tickets without much progress, only to be told that LexisNexis/Nexis Uni simply doesn't work well with the OpenURL resolver. I'd like more development work to go into this connection as it renders a large amount of content in a very popular database inaccessible.

    Hello,

As of August 2022 the article level linking was removed from Nexis Uni as we could not support it with the currently available metadata.
