← Have an idea for Ex Libris?

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).


How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.


The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category. The ideas for new providers will be annually prioritized via the CERV process.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

**Please be aware that ideas with no comments or votes for the past three years, and have less than 30 votes, will be closed. The closed ideas will still be available for review, and the votes will be freed up for supporting other content ideas.

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.

  1. Add Big Ten Open Books collection

    The Big Ten Academic Alliance (a consortium of major U.S. libraries, of which Rutgers is a member) has released an ebook collection called Big Ten Open Ebooks (https://www.fulcrum.org/bigten) on the Fulcrum platform, the University of Michigan's ebook platform. Several collections from University of Michigan's Fulcrum platform are already in the CZ, including ACLS Humanities Ebook and University of Michigan Press Ebooks. The University of Michigan manages all the metadata for these old collections and this new collection. Could Ex Libris please work with established provider partner, University of Michigan, to load this new collection?

  4. Add Walter De Gruyter Publishing collection for Vervuert 2023

    Hello,

    We have noticed that there is not yet a collection in the ALMA Community Zone for 2023 Vervuert books through Walter De Gruyter Publishing. The De Gruyter site has 2023 books for Vervuert but there is no collection in ALMA. The most recent collection is the following from 2022:

  6. JSTOR Path to Open Ebooks

    The first 100 titles in JSTOR's new Path to Open initiative will be live on their platform in October. The title list is already available so it would be great if Ex Libris could work to add the new collection in time for when the titles go live.

  7. New Database Request - SAGE:Jisc Collections:SAGE Journals Read and Publish 2023-2024: Reading List - 360 KB

    A new Jisc agreement has been released for SAGE Journals covering 2023-2024. We therefore need a new database in 360 KB to reflect the current collection and replace the now out-of-date database that covered the 2020-2022 agreement [Sage:Jisc Collections:SAGE Journals Read & Publish 2020-2022 Agreement (Reading List) AIOMO]

    We also need article-level linking. AIOMO has article level linking in place and the platform has not changed so the same linking principles should still apply.

  8. JSTOR Archival Journal & Primary Source Collection

    JSTOR has created a new single collection composed of all JSTOR Archival Journal and Primary Source collections. Having one comprehensive JSTOR collection rather than multiple discipline collections would be great.

    Please can you add the content from The House magazine to the Summon Knowledge Base. It is available from Freely Accessible Social Science Journals as PoliticsHome.

  12. Add new JSTOR Public Health Archive Collection (360 KB)

    JSTOR offers this collection as a purchasable archive, so having an equivalent database collection in the KB would be very helpful for us. Content includes books, journals, and research reports: https://www.jstor.org/subject/publichealth

  13. Break up IBISWorld into sub-collections

    The existing IBISWorld collection (IBISWorld Alma ID 6113915960000041 DBID 6EY) is for the entire platform, but many customers license only a subset of that content. The smaller IBISWorld collections in the CZ are not connected to a CDI DB and they aren't complete (e.g., there's no collection for the Ontario Provincial Reports). Please make more subset collections and CDI DBs for them.

    Hello,

    We are adding sub-collections for IBISWorld.

    Most recently we added Australia Industry Reports, Collection ID: 614970000000000761.

    Other collections in the future will be added as zero title databases with the full metadata in CDI only, due to the metadata insufficient which creates brief records which cannot be enriched.

  17. Add Kohlhammer, transfer content from Content-Select

    Kohlhammer apparently launched its own platform for its eBooks and no longer offers them via content-select/preselect (currently Content-Select Global Alltitles, Coll. ID CZ 614910000000000005). Please create an according collection in Alma CZ/CDI and transfer content.

  18. Improve the metadata of Dalloz Bibliothèque in CZ and CDI

    The quality of the metadata for Dalloz Bibliothèque in the CZ and CDI is extremely poor (sometimes only one title). Please, consider enriching the metadata with those coming from the SUDOC (more complete and of better quality). Enrichment could perhaps be based on the PPN (SUDOC identifier) that you have already injected into the CZ records?

    Please create a new collection in the KBs (specifically, we want to activate portfolios and MARC records for this collection in the Alma Community Zone) for the EBSCOhost eBooks Spanish & Portuguese Subscription Collection.The provider, EBSCOhost, is an existing provider.
