Allow additional staff roles to be configurable in Courses and displayed in Leganto
I would love the option to configure a new Course Instructor role in Alma/Leganto; it could be called something like ‘Course Collaborator’ to use wording consistent with other similar roles. This could then map more accurately between different staff roles in the VLE and different reading list ownership roles. Currently there is only one overarching Course role (Instructor), but the Course is the LTI linking point between VLE page and reading list, and the Course Loader is where you update details in bulk, so there does not seem a good way of keeping 'list collaborators' up to date without doing it manually.
Use case: in our VLE (Brightspace) the academic staff associated with a module have different roles, either ‘Module Leader’, 'Module Co-Leader' or ‘Module Teaching Team’.
We have always had the LTI role mapping rule enabled since implementing Leganto, and the configuration for course instructors to be given ownership of associated reading lists, meaning any academic who clicks through to a reading list from their module page is assigned as instructor of the course and owner of the list. This saves work as it means collaborators don’t have to request ownership to the appropriate lists and list owners/library staff don’t have to then add them manually.
However, due to a recently developed integration with another system (e-textbook supplier), we now need to identify the module leader in Leganto. We’ve had to edit course instructors in bulk via Course Loader to just show the module lead so only they show as List Owner; assign other teaching staff manually as List Collaborators; and will either tweak or turn off the LTI rule or leave it and clean up any future issues as they arise, none of which seems ideal.
Ideally I want any person who is Module Leader/Co-Leader in Brightspace to be Course Instructor and Reading List Owner in Alma (ie the process we’ve been using), and I’d like there to be a parallel Alma role/mapping process for the Module Teaching Team in Brightspace, ie Course Collaborator and Reading List Collaborator. This would mean we could utilise the LTI mapping rule without issue, nobody would have to manually request or assign collaborators, and would also mean we could edit collaborators in bulk via the Course Loader form if need be.
For us it isn't about the specifics of the reading list editing permissions, we just want to:
a) clearly identify who is the module leader from the Leganto interface;
b) be able to update all associated staff of courses/lists in a bulk job.
