Enable embedded videos for assignments and class discussions
(I'm not sure if this comes under the roadmap item "Support websites for Read and Respond assignments and Social Reading" or if it would be additional work.)
Currently instructors use a third-party tool where they can paste in a YouTube video link and the video is embedded in a page where students can add comments at relevant points. (So comments are associated with a timestamp.) This is like social annotation as students can see each others' comments in order to have a discussion, but the instructor is also able to grade each student's participation and send grades back to the learning management system's gradebook.
It would be useful for the tool to be able to manage a range of video platforms if possible. Eg as well as YouTube, Vimeo etc, we use video tools like eTV and Panopto - the videos are usually behind a single-sign-on login so that's obviously trickier to manage but if it's possible it would let instructors work with a broader range of educational content.
