pop ups
This idea is around 'pop-ups'. What I mean by this is a 'smaller than full screen' message/banner that can be designed to sit in front of any desired content page or 'pop-up' in-between a tile and the intended end destination. I have listed a few examples below and also attached a super short video of it working on another one of the UOB apps.
It could be used to notify end users of a current issue with check-in. 'Please be aware that we are currently experiencing an issue with iOS. For a successful check-in please use the web browser'
It could be used to notify users that a new feature has been added to the app. 'Make use of the new tile 'lists'. Click 'here to find out more'
Currently we redirect out to Blackboard through a simple tile with just a URL redirect. But soon we will be changing this to the more formal and functional integrated Blackboard tile - a pop-up notification that this is going to take place a week before when clicking on the pre-existing app tile would be really beneficial
I have seen in real time how much this simple addition can impact the operations of an app and therefore of a university. The previous app I managed saw drastic improvements in knowledge and comms reaching the end user. I also know that EVERY university would really benefit from this feature. And not necessarily just within CampusM. It is also something that I am noticing being utilised by many other 'main stream' apps. It serves it's purpose really well without the 'pain' of an actual notification.
It also navigates its way around complicated GDPR rules.
The previous supplier I worked with made it really functional given it's initial success. After the basic launch - they then added the ability to add in parameters to the functionality. It started with just...you can put this pup-up here and for this length of time'. They then added in functionality so that it would only appear once per unique user that was very welcomed. That would be a platinum standard addition though and would obviously require a lot more dev work.
