  1. Use non-LC call numbers for journal categories

This affects Primo/PrimoVE; but the job is in Alma.

The new feature (as of Nov 2019) to browse a list of journals by category depends on the 050$a. This should be expanded to use the 055$a, 060$a, 070$a, 080$a, 082$a, 083$a, 084$a, 085$a, and 086$a. Additionally, libraries should be able to pick which of the subfields to use.

This is an example of the lack of support for non-LC libraries.

  2. Support Microsoft Edge for Primo

According to documentation (https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Product_Documentation/Primo/New_Primo_User_Interface/010Frequently_Asked_Questions#Browser_Certification), Ex Libris does not support Microsoft Edge for Alma.
The use of Edge is growing and should be considered a major browser, and therefore supported.

  4. Display order: side by side instead of top-down

In Primo, allow the option to display to show print and electronic results side-by-side instead of one after the other. Also apply to link resolver results.

  5. ahead of print

More appropriate link resolving for "Ahead of Print" (pre-publish) articles.

We recently had a report of problem linking for an "Ahead of Print" Primo article result. In this instance, linking resolved to an incorrect article - since it matched by keyword search at the journal.

If better metadata cannot be obtained for "Ahead of print" articles, and these are not formally published articles, perhaps these results should not be included for Primo results -- or be able to be pulled into results in a separate facet?

  6. Ability to examine raw data of a PCI collection for quality assessment

Its tedious to check the quality of primo central collection. It will be helpful to have an API access to the raw data of Primo Central Collections. Collections need to be checked for quality issues e.g. resource types contained. Its important to understand the density, language, and formatting of metadata before a collection is activated in production. Please enable an API for the PNX / Metadata of the collections records. Metadata experts could then assess the quality of a collection more easily. The method would be also more reliable and convenient than checking (some) examples via the Primo frontend.

  7. Increase the granularity of of metadata fields for searching in Primo Central

Additional metadata fields be made searchable within Primo Central. Author affiliation, Abstract, Author Keywords, Thesaurus keywords, Chemical name, Source title, Funding information, full text, etc. The publishers and some database providers provide some or all of this information, for the publishers that do not supply the information, the field will be empty, for the many duplicate records the field information may be found in one or more of the duplicate records. It would be better to make search available for the additional fields, than over simplify search and remove the capability. Improves the level of sophisticated and accurate searching within…

  8. Resource Recommender / searchable tags / language code table

If you want to use the Resource Recommender feature in more languages than just English, you have to put all tags into the "Searchable Tags" box of the English interface. If you change to another language, the box is greyed out and can't be edited.

I would like to suggest an overhaul of this part of the RR to make the "Searchable Tags" just as avaible for other languages as title and description are.

  9. bX: Display dates for recommended articles in Primo VE brief results

Article dates do not display in brief results related to bX article recommendations. The dates display in the bX sidebar, but when a user clicks on a bX recommended title, the date is missing from the brief results. It was noted that this configuration is currently hard coded and not configurable.

  10. Newspaper index activations should be on the ejournal/newspaper title level rather than on the collection level

The Newspaper Index should be activated on the ejournal/newspaper title level rather than on the collection level.
For example if you activate in PCI a target like Gale Onefile, that has newspaper articles from a range of different titles, the result is radically different in the main Primo index and the Newspaper Index.

The main index will have this activation on ejournal/newspaper title level, so will only display newspaper articles and other content that Alma or SFX says are subscribed.
In the Newspaper Index however the activation is on the Collection level, so that all Gale OneFile newspaper articles are…

  11. [Primo] - add tag delivery/fulltext to local PNX , thus improving blended search and full text availability information

The feature "Expand My Results / Results with no full-text" allows to include in the search results PCI records with no full text. It relies on a pnx value in tag "fulltext" delivery section:
    <delivery>
    ...
    <fulltext>no_fulltext</fulltext>
    </delivery>

The problem is that <fulltext> tag / field is not available in the Normalization Rule for local records.

The consequence is for example that when we harvest data from our dpace institutional repository we may have fulltext, but sometimes we may have just metadata records. But without the delivery/fulltext field in the PNX we can't manage records with just metadata so that…

  12. Citation Linker does not ignore initial articles

The Journal search in the Citation Linker doesn't always ignore the initial article. I'm referring to "articles" in the grammar sense (the, a, an, etc). So for example, you get different "view it" results for Washington Post vs. The Washington Post. This isn't a huge issue, but it is confusing.

  13. Update Primo Central more frequently

As part of our implementation we have been making changes to our holdings in Alma. Following this we often see resources in Primo that are showing up in our full text results but are not available.

We are told this is because the holdings file, that the results are based on, is only updated once a week. It is produced on Wednesdays and then is applied the following Monday.

A more frequent update of the holdings file would be very useful as it would ensure that our users i.e. students and staff are more likely to get accurate information when…

  14. fix Primo's proxying functionality so it can handle encoding

Propose a solution to this problem: When people try to access content from Primo to Artstor, they are being authenticated into our proxy. After initial authentication into proxy, patrons are not linked to the Artstor result; they are shown an error page (Artstor error), or a generic Artstor resource page--not the actual result. Now that they are logged into the proxy, if they try to access the same link from Primo again, they can get to the result in Artstor properly.

  15. Calculate item level availability

For most Primo Central Index collections, availability status in Primo is based on your activated portfolio holdings in Alma. These holdings calculate availability at the publication-level based on the coverage entered.

Currently it is not possible to calculate availability in a way that recognizes item-level exceptions, such as when aggregator sources do not receive certain article types ('secondary' articles, brief articles, reviews, etc.) from the original publisher.

The proposed idea is to calculate availability at the item-level.

  18. Give us a way to brute force boosting any record in Alma with a local field

We have to break the rules of cataloging to add fields to get certain important titles that should ALWAYS be first in a relevance sort to show up at the top. Give us a local field to use in a bib record to always ensure a boost to the top (similar to what we can do to "top" a particular collection to offer in direct linking).

  19. Ensure a title level general hold request only activates a request on the relevant holdings and campus for correctly affilated patrons.

This crosses Alma and Primo but it surfaces as an issue for us mostly in Primo.
Currently general hold requests are not checked against terms of use. So Primo/Alma applies the request to all holdings regardless of whether the patron can borrow the item or not.
As an institution with two distinct campuses (NHS and University) we have issues with requests where some of the holdings have no items attached.
For example we have a journal that has holdings at several libraries at both the NHS and Cardiff University campuses. Some of these holdings do not have any items attached.…

  20. Search with 'OR' using DeepLinks

Query params in a deep-search are correlated with "AND" by default. It is not possible to correlate two query params of a deep link with a boolean OR.

This feature could be very useful, for instance if you want to search for an author including variant spelling (think of Primo Central Index). Or to query multiply keywords via a single Deep Link.
