Content

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).

How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.

The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category. The ideas for new providers will be annually prioritized via the CERV process.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

If you want to add an institutional repository, please open a case and follow the documentation here:

**Please be aware that ideas with no comments or votes for the past three years, and have less than 30 votes, will be closed. The closed ideas will still be available for review, and the votes will be freed up for supporting other content ideas.

**If you are a content provider, please review the submission guides for more information on how to reach out

  1. poor metadata, Adam Matthew collection

    Hi,
CZ collection 614920000000006176 has 1761 portfolios. However, the Metadata for them is poor. We propose asking ExL to ask Adam Matthew to improve the metadata.

    Kind regards,

  2. All MARC records in the Alma Community Zone should be sorted chronologically between MARC fields 500 - 899.

The fact that the MARC fields between 500 and 899 are not sorted chronologically for all Alma Community Zone MARC records makes it difficult for us to use the “Collections” function in Primo.
In the Collections function in Primo, we display the author on the overview page in addition to the title. The author is displayed via a small script in Primo. This script takes the “au” field from the PNX record of the title or, if “au” is not available, the “addau” field and displays the first value from “au” or “addau” in the title overview of the collections.…

  5. Can you please create a separate platform for ‘ScienceOpen’ to track title by title content available via ScienceOpen?

    Hello,
Can you please create a separate platform dedicated for 'ScienceOpen' if convenient as Taylor and Francis have announced that they will not be publishing 'Review of African Political Economy' after completion of Volume 49, Issue 178, 2023 and the journal will be published through Science Open in 2024 instead? Looks like the main URL is https://www.scienceopen.com/
    Thanks!

  6. Kanopy Base Collection

    Hello,
Recently we've had 15 member libraries purchase the new "Kanopy Base Collection". In addition CARLI staff know of at least four other I-Share Alma libraries with significant Kanopy streaming video purchases.

Here's a quick description of the newly offered "Kanopy Base Collection" with a link to an example title list. https://www.lyrasis.org/content/Pages/product-details.aspx?pid=3747DED9-9754-ED11-80FE-00155D0A2732

I've checked the content road map and release notes, however, I found nothing from Kanopy "coming soon" beyond the "database" type e-collections in the Community Zone.

Please consider adding a selective package or aggregator for the Kanopy Base collection.

    Thank you,
    Denise Green, CARLI

  7. Add AIATSIS thesauri to the CZ subject authority files

As a cataloguer, I would like to see the AIATSIS thesauri made available in the Community Zone authority files for 6XX subject fields.

    BENEFITS

    • Make it easier for cataloguers to validate AIATSIS subject headings
    • Enable routine review and updates of AIATSIS subject headings through the Authority Control Task List
    • Enrich Primo searches for end users, using non-preferred terms (especially synonyms for people and language groups)
    • Promote AIATSIS thesauri to Australian libraries

While specific libraries can import and manage AIATSIS subject headings as local authorities, I think this vocabulary should be made available in the CZ authority records, since it is…

  8. Post collection ID in the CKB update.

In the CKB update, sometimes we found statements like collection ABC is replaced by collection ABC, or with a similar name. Since some CZ collections share the same name or similar name with one another, please add collection ID next to the collections/Databases that are to be removed in the coming weeks. Collection ID is an identifier that would help people to identify the exact collection.

  9. Add the Thesaurus for Graphic Materials to the CZ

Please consider adding this authority vocabulary to the CZ as it is used to enhance records of graphic materials such as photographs, drawings, and other visual works.
