  1. Hide collections

Right now public Primo collections need to be deleted in order to hide them from public view; correspondingly, if a collection is suppressed from Discovery when it is created, it cannot be unsuppressed. It would be useful to be able to simply hide and unhide collections easily, for things like making changes, or themed collections whose time have passed.

  2. Make the Blank Request Form Customizable Based on User Group

Make the Blank Request Form customizable based on which user group is logging in to use it.

We are switching to using the Blank Request Form for resource sharing, however as a library that serves a university, college and community we would like to be able to customize which fields patrons see based on their user group.

Our university students have the option of picking up items at any of our consortium partner schools. The college and community members do not have this option. However there is no way to prevent them from seeing the pick up anywhere option on…

  3. Inform users when wildcard limit has been reached for local records (when still displaying CDI results)

    Based on Salesforce case 06390632.

When using wildcards in a Primo search, there is a limit to how many you can use before the search triggers an error that excludes all local records.

    https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Knowledge_Articles/Long_combinations_of_Boolean_operators_and_truncated_terms_(wildcards)_return_0_results

This limit is only for local records. The CDI search does not follow the same limitations and will still gather results even if this limit is reached.

If a users crosses the wildcard threshold when searcing in a scope containing only local records, there will be an error message displayed that explains why no results were found. However, if the same search is done in a…

  4. Collection Discovery: "new" pagination method instead of endless scrolling

Already some time ago (May 2021 Release) Ex Libris has rolled out the "new" pagination method: users can now specify whether to display 10, 25, or 50 results per page.

This works also in the "Database Search" and the "Journal Search" but not in the "Collection Discovery" section of Primo.
"Collection Discovery" still provides the old endless scrolling method (Button "Load More Results") where you quickly run into brower performance problems if a collection contains my items.

Please make the "new" pagination method also availalbe in the "Collection Discovery" area.
    Thank you in advance!

  5. Make both the label and the code from the controlled vocabulary registry searchable

When adding a controlled vocabulary to the registry and afterwards connecting it to a certain MARC field in Primo VE, patrons now can only search using the code and not the label.

As an example imagine a controlled vocabulary with the entry ECON (code) and Economy and Finance (label). If ECON (the code) is stored in the record and the patron searches for Economy and Finance in that field (in advanced filter), he or she will get no results. If you search for ECON however all relevant records will be returned.
Of course the patrons are not supposed to know…

  6. Fill the gap of Open Access CDI records not marked with the Open Access icon and facet

The Open Access icon and facet were added to Primo in May 2018, per previous submission: https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308176-primo/suggestions/19130257-open-access-flag-for-open-access-content

This is applied at metadata level by provider feed first for PCI and now CDI.
This current decision is the root cause for a significant gap in the number of OA records incorrectly not marked as OA.
For example, tens of thousands of PloS One articles not marked as OA.

In September 2022 a change is made in terms of the link proxy being removed when it is determined at the link level that the access is OA.
    But unfortunately this change is…

  7. Make consistent the use of CDI record data in Primo UI

Current CDI design in Primo UI is to expose metadata from all participant records for both returning results from a search query, and in the values presented for selection in facet for filtering results, but the display of metadata within records is only by site-specific activations.
This means that a user can search for a term in Primo, have results returned on the basis of that term, select the value for the term in a facet, but then not see the term in the record display.

The negative impact of this design decision includes:
    * a user is confused by…

  8. Allow removal of main title enlargement upon hover in Resource Recommender banner

The default (and expected) behavior of the Resource Recommender banner results in an enlargement of the text entered for the main title field. We are unable to modify this behavior via CSS, find the transition jarring, and would like to have the option of no hover effect or, at minimum, a less extreme one.

  9. Facet "Availability" : display order

I would like to be able to choose the order in which items are displayed in the "Availability" facet, and thus put the most important ones first.

In the backoffice, a "display order" column exists. I created a case to know why the display did not correspond to my choice. The person who answered, told me that it was not used in the user interface, and that it was considered as an improvement request.

  10. Option to highlight the edition statement in brief results

Hi, in a recent student survey we received feedback that the edition of a work should be more prominently labelled. It would be good if this text was more obvious in the brief results, perhaps with a different colour, positioning or size?

  11. Define preferred pickup location in personal details of my account

As a user of a large library network, I usually pick up the books I loan at library Z. When making a request I have to scroll down or use the search function in order to find library Z at the bottom of the very long list of pickup locations.

I would like a new feature, so that I can define my preferred pickup location as library Z in the personal details of my account. So, my preferred pickup location would always be displayed at the very top of the list of pickup locations. Plus, I could see at one…

  12. New tool 'Give us feedback' - allow files to be uploaded

  13. Collection Discovery: allow searching subcollections' contents at the collection level

Currently, when a user searches in a collection, Primo only returns objects that are directly located under this collection, ignoring any contents located in subcollections. This means that the user needs to open each subcollection and do the search again to discover all objects included in the collection. This is cumbersome and counter-intuitive. We would like that the search results also include objects and subcollections located at lower levels in the hierarchy.

  14. Custom location order in brief results list

Where there are multiple records for the same holding within our institution, we would like to configure the order of locations in the brief results. Patrons could then see the circulating items first, rather than non-circulating items, reducing confusion and wasted time.

This is similar to #32961133, "Ability to select which location appears first." The resulting Location Ordering Profile allows us to set a custom order within a single record, which is very helpful. But it does not solve the problem where there are multiple records.

  15. Indicate the other fields in use for an advanced search in collapsed mode

When a user undertakes an advanced search and chooses dates, language or resource types, those limits are not shown to the user who may forget what they had searched for as they review the results.
The user then makes changes in the collapsed view and not realise that they need to expand it first to change those other fields.

At minimum there should be an indication that those fields are in use so they know to expand it again. Ideally those field selections should be shown in the collapsed view.

  16. Multi-select and Typeahead search fields (e.g. language)

Currently Primo VE only allows a user to select one language at a time via dropdown. This is a poor user experience that doesn't allow users to multiple languages at once, and makes the dropdown more difficult to use as more options are added to it.

Having an interface where the user can select multiple items at once as well as type to suggest a language will allow more flexibility for users researching items in specific languages

  17. Search Limiters for Accessibility Features

As a cataloger, I would like to propose a new option to filter search results for items with accessibility features (captions, audio descriptions, large print, etc). We are in the process of adding 041 subfields (mostly p and q), and 341 and 532 fields to our records in order to help users more easily identify items intended for those with hearing or visual disabilities. Ideally, this feature would utilize that input based on the presence of indicators in the 341 or 532 fields (i.e., 0 and 1) or controlled vocabulary terms to create search facets or indications (similar to the…

  18. Support html in GES public notes in How to Get it section

We are considering moving a couple of our general electronic services from the "Links" section to the "How to Get it" section. However HTML tags in the public note are not recognised when we change it from Links to How to Get It.

    See cases: 00987379 & 00987406

I would have expected that public notes should always support HTML tags as they are exposed publicly via Primo.

https://www.screencast.com/t/v3OGDhcrDG5j - illustration showing that <b> tags in the Links area make text bold, but encoding is displayed int eh How to Get it section.

  19. Primo May 2022 Release: Display Multiple Links in View It

This feature offers the possibility to show more fulltext links in three sections:
    (1) CDI "Subscription" links
    (2) Alma iframe with Alma portfolio links
    (3) CDI "Open Access" links

However, currently it is not possible to configure the display of these sections.

Please think about the following improvements:

Possibility to display all link sections automatically instead of only showing the first link section and a "Show more" option for the other sections (see attachement).

Possibility to decide to display both new link sections (additional CDI "Subscription" links, additional CDI "Open Access" links) or only one of them.
    If you have…

  20. Main menu on desktop - let us decide how many links to show

    Hi

On desktop, the main menu shows 6 links and then "..." to show the rest.

On desktop, there would be ample space to just show all the links instead of hiding some of them.

    https://col-westernsem.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/search?vid=01COL_WTS:WTS&lang=en

On the other hand, maybe a library wants to hide some links behind the "...", but wants to show fewer than 6 links before the dots.

    Please make this more flexible.

    Thank you
    Manuela

Our own main menu is at 6 links at the moment, but we plan to add more links https://basel.swisscovery.org/discovery/search?search_scope=UBS&vid=41SLSP_UBS:live&lang=en
