Bother, I've run out of votes and will have to see what I can scrounge from elsewhere, but in the meantime I want to register my agreement with this idea. The whole point of a workflow is that it starts, proceeds, then ends. It makes no sense for a workflow note to persist after the end of the workflow itself, and has the potential to cause a great deal of confusion in cases where the workflow may (or may not) recur in future academic years.

For #1 I think I'd disable Patron along with the other roles - if the account's compromised then the unauthorised person shouldn't get even that access either.

For #1 and #2 while I agree with skipping the need to save the user record (so easy to forget when in a panic!) it should have a pop up "are you sure you want to ..." confirmation in case of accidental clicking.

Feedback received from a lecturer on this topic today:

"I am not sure what I am suppose to look at when I get these emails. Can you please advise."

"When I click the link I do not know where to find the comment that has been added. Is there anything I need to do?"

[and after I explained the steps they need to take]

"there are too many clicks to get anywhere and it is [un]intuitive"

The most useful thing would be to include the text of the library discussion note in the notification email.

Other additional improvements would be to:
    * have the link from the notification letter automatically open the login form/method of choice
    * have a "reply to this comment" link that goes straight to the relevant citation and opens the Discussion section
    * highlight new notes within the discussion section

At the moment the functionality is so un-user-friendly that we're going to have to revert back to communicating with lecturers via email until it can be fixed. :-(

Very much support this. Telling people they have notifications but they have to follow a link, then login, then click the notification bell, then click each citation individually, then open the library discussion tab, only to (if they bother getting this far) discover that the notification is "Fixed it for you!" just guarantees that next time they'll immediately delete the email.

The notification letter should list not just the course but also each citation and its comment(s), along with include a direct link back to the citation if they want to reply - bonus points if that citation link can automatically open the library discussion.

A specific use case: we have some questions set up that result in:
    * question 1 - tags to put physical books on short loan
    * question 2 - tags to request more licenses/restrict downloads of ebooks

Currently we display these to lecturers but don't let them edit them later, even though it would be useful for them to do so if they change their mind. This is because if we enable editing of these tags, they appear as options on all material types, which adds clutter and confusion. So instead we have to turn off the option entirely, and if they want to take something off 2-hour loan they have to email / use the Discuss feature instead of simply removing the tag.

I agree it would be useful to have the "Save and filter query" button on these search results page to.

As a timesaver in the meantime though, you can create sets for courses, reading lists and citations by going to Admin > Manage Sets > Add set and then running your search.

This isn't intuitive, in fact even though I use it a fair amount I still have to put some thought into remembering the process each time! So i definitely support adding the button to the normal search results pages too.

...And each time we do try again, it then opens a new blank case in the Support centre. Cases shouldn't be opened automatically if we haven't actually had a chance to talk to anyone. Instead, if an agent isn't available it should ask whether we want to open a case *or* try again later.

One complication is, when date ranges overlap, whether they should be sorted by the start date or the end date. My instinct is that this would depend on whether the date is ascending or descending, eg:

    Sort by start date ascending:
    Holding A 1990 - 2010
    Holding B 1995 - 2000
    Holding C 2005 - present (ie 2022)

    Sort by end date descending
    Holding C 2005 - present (ie 2022)
    Holding A 1990 - 2010
    Holding B 1995 - 2000

    Would others agree?

    Hello,

We will check if we can establish a feed for this content to be available in our Discovery services.

We'd potentially use this too, with a LibraryH3lp chat widget (which works in a similar way as described in this idea).

(Our only caveat - based on our experience with adding the widget to our LMS, if/when you do this you'll start getting a lot of non-library questions - eg people asking when assignments are due, how to fix Turnitin problems, how to get an extension, etc!)

I agree on the usefulness but it is something that would vary by class/lecturer. Ideally it would allow the lecturer to choose whether or not to display it. So config settings in Alma might be:

    * always on,
    * opt-in (defaults to off but lecturer can turn it on)
    * opt-out (defaults to on but lecturer can turn it off)
    * always off

We are exploring options for this idea. The priority of the results is set by either Primo or Summon, so we cannot simply show the newest edition first unless the discovery ranking changes. However, we could potentially develop an option using the Questions feature in which the system could recognize that the instructor has added something which has other editions. The library could then configure a question for the instructor to understand if they want that edition, any edition, or the newest edition, for example. Would this help meet the need?

    Deborah Fitchett commented  ·

Books should definitely be prioritised over book reviews! But otherwise owned editions should be prioritised over non-owned, and full text available over non-full text available.

We'd then prefer to prioritise full-text over physical, but other libraries may have a different preference so this should perhaps be configurable.
