  1. Refine RTA for Institutional Reporsitories

At present all results for our Institutional repositry have "Full Text Online" as the RTA text. However some of these are not full text at all, just records of book chapters/articles submitted by researchers. This gives a false impression to the end user that there is always full text. It is probably too difficult to create a mapping for all the permutations, but it would be a start to allow the records that belong to the Institutional repository have their own RTA text, such as "View in the Institutional Repository".

  2. Allow the brief results from your catalogue to be configurable

It would be useful if the fields available in the brief results could be configurable. It would be useful to be able to either remove fields altogether, or to at least have labels displaying, such as "Series" , "Pub Date" etc

  3. Display parallel titles in Summon

The correction in Summon to index parallel titles as titles (instead of as subtitles) was welcomed; however, the resulting elimination of parallel titles in search results displays was not. In the current iteration of Summon, which parallel title appears in the catalog is solely left to chance, and whichever appears first in a bibliographic record. However, if Summon can display all other title subfields and information in search results, including subfields B, N and P, it should include parallel title information as well. The lack of parallel titles is problematic for patron search and retrieval. For example, a patron searching…

  4. Filter search results in the Ebook and Journal portal (EJP)

The EJP is a good way to find full text journals by subject area, however, once you have searched or browsed to a subject, there is no way to narrow your search any further except to show only open access titles. It would be helpful to restrict results to recent books or journals with current access, or to peer-reviewed sources, for example.

  5. Use Seamless Access for authentication

Seamless Access is a new tool for Single sign-on authentication, this is how they describe it:

SeamlessAccess enables true Single Sign-On. Your users will be able to sign in using their preferred sign in credentials, and will not be bothered for them again for all SeamlessAccess-enabled sites.

  6. Allow to limit search results by word or page count, or a document length range

This should get rid of minor articles such as might appear when searching in newspapers. Also, it might help in further weeding-out book reviews. Plus, there are times users want articles that discuss an issue in-depth and they don't want a 2-page article from some journal. Conversely, I've helped users who get huge articles from journals who would like to find articles that are just 3-4 pages in length, etc.

  8. There is no way to mass unapply database filters (except by clearing all filters).

When you apply database filters to a search term and then start a new search, those databases still show as selected and you have to untick them one by one. The only way to clear them is either manually or by using "Clear all filters", but that also clears other filters such as fulltext online, etc.

Can we have an option to mass unapply database filters?

  9. Correcting Status of "online-first" Citations

Aggregators, such as EBSCOhost, post articles on their websites only after the publisher adds the content in a journal issue. However, they do not take this information into account when providing their coverage dates.

Because of this issue, citations in Summon for such "online-first" articles (such as the ones at https://www.tandfonline.com/action/showAxaArticles?journalCode=tsri20) may link to an error message if the institution subscribes to the journal via an aggregator and not the publisher.

Since "online-first" records have a publication (SSID) and a publication date, if you subscribe to the journal and the article publication date falls within your dates of coverage,…

  11. About customizing the contents of the simple record displayed at the top of the Summon over Alma service page.

Currently, the contents of the brief record displayed at the top of the Summon over Alma Service Page are not customizable. We would like to be able to define this display freely, as in Primo VE.

For example, in addition to the fields currently displayed, we would like to add Record type, Statement of responsibility (author from 245 $c), Publisher name and place, Series name and number, etc.

Example (parts in brackets are not displayed in current service page)

    [BOOK]
    Winnie-the-Pooh[ / A.A. Milne ; with decorations by Ernest H. Shepard ]
    Milne, A. A. 1882-1956 Alan Alexander; Shepard, Ernest…

  12. Database recommendations based on content type facet

Currently the database recommender is powered by tags (and an algorithm based on the result set?). We would like for the content type facet to also power database recommendations. For example, if the music facet is selected, Naxos is recommended. If the standards facet is selected, Standards Australia is recommended. The new database facet assists with this to a degree, but it is not foolproof.

  13. Stop indexing Ebsco "abstract" results so they no longer appear in Summon "Full-Text" Results with broken links

One persistent problem we have between Summon and EBSCO is abstracts indexed as articles in Summon. Some journals index these abstracts as individual titles, which is why they get pulled into Summon as standalone full text articles, but EBSCO (which is where we have full text) does not index them at all. So not only does the openURL break, if you search for them in EBSCO you often get zero hits. Since we have so much full text in EBSCO, this accounts for a good many of our bad urls in Summon and it is frustrating and confusing for librarians…

  14. Make the Summon search box widget a responsive design

I want to embed the Summon search box widget on a Moodle page. Search box length is 'static'. It can be set to particular length but it is then not responsive in different screen sizes. The Summon preview pane widget is already responsive i.e. you can set length to 'fluid' and it changes width in different screens. I would like to see this also for the search box.

  15. Do not allow Book Chapter and Journal Article records to match and merge with each other

When the Book Chapter facet is applied, in multiple searches the majority of top results listed appear as Journal Article format. My understanding is that this is because Journal Articles an Book Chapters are allowed to match and merge, specifically in order to allow merging of serial monographs. However, many of the top results do not appear to be serial monographs, but actual journal articles. This is confusing for users, and the merges may be causing more frustration than good.

  17. Match & Merge Duplicates in Video Type

Match & Merge duplicates in the video Type. They don't do it because "there hasn't been much duplication in video." Well, we have some and they won't merge them. Ideally we should have no duplicates in any type.

  18. Allow publishers ability to search their content in Summon

Publishers whose content is uploaded into Summon should be able to view how these records look from a librarian's perspective. Can a publisher receive some sort of admin account for this? This would make answering our accounts' questions about our records much simpler.

  19. add "film review" content type

Summon has a "book review" content type, but no "film review" content type.
There is no intuitive way to find film reviews, which may be tagged as "book review." This can be confusing when searching for reviews of a book that was made into a movie.

  20. Display all 300 subfields as the default for all media

Make display of all subfields from the 300 physical description field the default in Summon for all types of materials, in the catalog detail screen, results screens, and elsewhere. Currently, Summon only displays 300 MARC physical description information for books in search results and catalog detail pages; and even for books, only subfield “a” (pagination) is included. This means that patrons can’t see information like: number of DVDs or CDs in a set; whether movies are in black-and-white or color; playing time of DVDs or CDs; any accompanying materials like booklets with DVDs or CDs in book-and-CD sets; types and…
