  1. Configure general messages to be viewable to instructors only, students only or both

The general message feature in the December 2020 release is a useful way to display messages to all Leganto users (such as scheduled downtime or important library messages).

The functionality could be enhanced to allow general messages to be configured to only be viewed by instructors or students (or both if required). This would be useful in a number of scenarios and allow more targeted messages to be prominently displayed to relevant users at the point of need.

    For example:
    - reminders to academic staff to check their lists prior to rollover
    - reminder to academic staff to submit lists…

  2. Identifying hidden links within Leganto citations in Alma/Leganto or analytics

There is an option in Leganto citations to hide a link. There is no obvious way to identify all the links that have been hidden.

Usecase - we noticed that some links have appeared in citations that shouldn't be there. A member of staff uses the function Hide the link when they come across one, which removes the link from student display of the reading list in Leganto.
There is currently no means to identify all the links in reading lists that have been hidden - we need to identify them at a later date to decide what further actions…

  3. Improved Citation Alert Management Functionality for UI

It would streamline the workflow significantly if Citation Alert Notes which are represented by the green dot in the Reading List View could include what contents of the Note actually are. This would save the workflow 3 extra clicks into the citation to edit it, checking the Notes Tab and having to then back out again to the Reading List. There is also significant work in having to clear an Alert once seen and or action, where the staff member has to select the citation, scroll to the top of the list, choose the Actions Menu, and select the Remove…

  4. Enable Leganto users to "Unlike" citations

Once a Leganto user has liked a citation, they are not able to change their mind and "unlike" it.

Across social media the pattern is that “likes” can be removed – and this is what our students/instructors would expect.

    • In training, or in class when demonstrating the feature, and then wanting to reverse it
    • Accidentally clicking the Like
    • Liking a citation, and then realising it was a different one that you wanted to like
    • Liking a citation and then changing your mind

Consideration should be given to whether liking/unliking is locked once a list is "inactive".…

  5. Create reading lists by importing csv or xls formatted file to Alma

This will allow us to create lists in bulk and save considerable staff time spent creating lists manually and adding individual citations in Leganto or Alma.

  6. Move Material type field to the top of the Editing form

We think the field for material type should be moved to the top of the Editing form.
This makes sense for several reasons.
    - It makes sense to define a document before registering it, and that’s where cataloguers start.
    - Different document types have different sets of fields, and choosing the material type first would ensure that the instructor starts registering in the correct form.
    - When changing the material type during the process, some fields may move or disappear, including fields the instructor had just been working on, leading to a poor user experience.
    - User creating a chapter…

This request was partially developed in August release under ‘citation mapping field’.

Fields that are mandatory to all the types such as title and type are in a standard structure and therefor can’t be mapped.

  7. Enable the use to set the initial display of the list as collapsed

All sections will be collapsed and the user will then expand the relevant section (or all section).

  8. Default item type for e journal articles

When adding a Primo Central electronic journal article title to a readings list, the type defaults to article rather than electronic article.
This would then be more obvious to instructors and students that they are looking at an electronic article instead of a physical article.

  9. Add student level activity to Leganto reports

Academics would like to track student usage of Leganto reading lists as an indicator for students who are at risk of under-performing or dropping out of courses.
A way of identifying students who are not reading or participating on the Leganto list would be useful.

  10. Auto Save tags when entering

When adding tags you have to select the tag then click the Save button. If you hit Enter it adds the next tag in the list! Most users will hit enter thinking this will Save the tag. I'd like to eliminate the extra click on the Save button and have tags auto save.

  11. Rejected Purchase Request - not detaching brief BIB in Alma Course Reserves

If we place a Purchase Request through Alma Course Reserves - the system generates a brief BIB with MMS ID against the citation. But if the Purchase Request is Rejected, the brief BIB is deleted from Alma (proper) but not from Alma Course Reserves and the citation remains resource located against the brief BIB that will not be fulfilled.

Currently, we are manually detaching these citations but do think that if the brief BIB is deleting in Alma proper it should be reflecting in Alma Course Reserve.

Can the brief BIB be removed from the citation in Alma Course Reserves…

  12. citation tag manage purchase request

Can the 'Citation tags' facet/filter also be added to the 'Manage Purchase Requests' screen.

To provide context, the citation tags we have created ourselves are 'Essential', 'Core', Further Reading', 'Distance Learning', 'Recommended' and so on. Our reading list team will want to complete all purchase requests, however, they may wish to process purchase requests marked essential, before moving onto the Core reading etc. Or have different team members working through different citation tags. Having this facet in 'Manage Purchase Requests' will allow the team to prioritise particular requests over others.

Feels like a small feature to implement, but will have…

  13. Reuse list button on splash screen

When users first enter Leganto via the LTI, before they have created a list for the current course, they see a splash screen with options to Create a new list from scratch or upload a list. A better option would be to replace the Upload button with a Reuse button, so that it is easy for users to get to the right place to find previous lists to reuse. Reusing a list from a previous semester is by far the largest use case for our faculty, and the splash screen makes it very difficult to see how to do that.…

  14. allow course archiving as well as reading list

The title says it all. Alma allows you to archive reading lists, which is useful--this leaves them as reportable in Analytics but removes them from Alma -- however strangely this function does not exist for at the course level, including the course that contains any archived reading lists. Since we get new course records every semester, this leaves a lot of expired courses that our reserves staff have to wade through, and makes this archiving feature note very useful for the course management workflow. If you deleted courses, any reading lists that had been archived would disappear from Analytics.

    I…

  15. Allow general messages to be scheduled

The ability to schedule general messages in Leganto would streamline the workflow for time-sensitive messages e.g. messages relating to scheduled downtime would automatically be taken down after the date the downtime occurs.

  16. Cite It compatibility with JISC's Library Hub Discover (NBK)

Library Hub Discover (replacement of COPAC) is not currently compatible with Cite It.

Cite It only currently captures basic metadata from the site: citation type is always other, title is always Library Hub (rather than the title from the record) and no other details are picked up apart from the URL.

It would be of great benefit to UK users if Library Hub Discover could be made compatible with Cite It.

  17. Additional automatic citation status configuration for purchase and resource charing requests

We would like to be able to configure an automatic status change for citations where a purchase request has been submitted, or a resource sharing request submitted. In these cases we would like the citation's status to change to "In Process"

  18. Choose which useful links teaching staff and students see

We have just spotted that it’s possible to set up useful links in Leganto, these appear in the top right menu, see screen shot attached.

We have created a user guide for teaching staff and would like to add this using this link, however we only want this to be visible to teaching staff and not to appear in student view. Similarly we would like to be able to give students specific links that appear only in student view.

  19. Customise mandatory fields per citation type

Currently the only mandatory field for a citation is "Title". We would like to be able to customise which fields are mandatory depending on the item type, so that instructors are prompted to fill out more than just the title when adding items from outside of our collections.

We often find tutors fill out the title and add a URL, but if that URL breaks then just the title isn’t always sufficient information to find a new link to the resource. Having just the title also doesn't give students much information to work with when judging which resources to engage…

  20. Reject input if DOI or citation source URL is incorrectly formatted (Leganto instructor UI)

We have seen many instructors create citations manually (rather than using Cite It) with the DOI formatted as a full URL (e.g. "https://doi.org/10.1111/misp.12056" rather than just "10.1111/misp.12056"). This prevents the citation from resolving and linking to the resource as expected.

Similarly, some users will add the citation source URL without the "https://" prefix, or with other formatting issues which prevent it from linking as expected.

A simple fix for this issue would be for Leganto to detect incorrectly formatted DOIs or URLs and to reject input, displaying a tooltip to inform the user of the correct format. Alternatively,…
