1. Zotero/Mendeley import: display position in list

   In the results list of “Search the library”, the current position in the list is indicated, e.g. “Showing 20 out of 311,444 results”. In the results list of “Import references from Mendeley” and “Import references from Zotero, however, this information is not displayed. 2. Additional brief citation information for instructors - New UI

   Can the brief citation view for Instructors in the new Leganto UI be made the same as the student view, where all citation details are visible? Currently if there are multiple editions of the same book, or material with very similar titles it is very hard to quickly tell them apart as only the title is visible. If a new instructor has to review an existing reading list, it takes them much more time in the new UI as they have to open each citation to see complete details.

   This also affects processing staff who work in Leganto, who are now required to click on the citation to view the full information instead of it being available at list level previously.

   If the order/structure of the citation details can be customised, as it could in the old UI, that would be great, but primarily we would like the view for instructors to show all citation details without any extra clicks.

   Attached are pictures showing 3 Cats books in the old and new UI. In the new UI only the cover image is different, otherwise it is impossible to tell them apart without opening the citation, whereas the old UI had the full citation information.

   We are planning to display additional metadata in the instructor and librarian view, but we are still working on the final details. We will update once we finalize.

3. In Analytics (Leganto Student Usage subject area), possibility to query Statistical Category X fields under Student Details

   (initially filled by the « Statistical Category X » fields from the Users subject area).

   Right now, to get data about the usage of a reading list by students, we need to query the fields which are only available under the dimension « Student details » of the « Leganto student usage » subject area. Those fields are filled only after signing the Ex-Libris form « Leganto student success measurements service ».
   It would be interesting that the statistical category fields only could be filled in order to extract statistical analyses without having to know the students identity. Therefore it would not be necessary to fill the form.

4. Make subjects usable

   Currently the only way to assign a subject to a list is in the Leganto interface.

   The function to assign subjects should be added to:
   1. Alma when working on an individual list
   2. Alma - bulk assign a subject from the reading list task list - select reading lists then 'manage selected' then choose from the list of defined subjects
   3. Reading List bulk update job
   4. Instructor rollover operations - copy to be supported
   5. Course loader rollover - On rollover copy subject

   This would enable librarians to help with assigning disciplines/study areas to lists, and not leave it to instructors who don't even know the field exists because it is hidden away in "Edit list", and make maintenance sustainable.

   USE CASE: we have an academic trying to encourage greater transparency of resource lists across a whole program. If we published all the lists for maximum visibility in Leganto within our institution, then being able to search for all lists in the discipline would be useful.
   It would also enhance use of sample lists by making them more visible.

   In addition to being able to search, it would be great if we could create shareable links to all lists with a specific subject assigned.

   Maintaining subjects is not sustainable without the tools, and therefore these fields are under utilised.

   Currently the only way to assign a subject to a list is in the Leganto interface.

5. Zotero/ Mendeley Import: Add option to select a folder/ a collection

   In Zotero and Mendeley, users can organize their references in folders or collections. In Leganto, however, citations from reference management systems can only be imported at the library level (everything). Especially for users with extensive reference collections, it would be much clearer if a specific folder or a specific collection could be selected when importing citations into Leganto.

6. Add option to import citations in bulk to "Search the Library" and "Import References"

   Currently, it is only possible to add one single citation at a time to a reading list when using "Search the Library" or "Import References from Zotero/from Mendeley". It would be very convenient if instructors could select multiples citations in the results list and import them in bulk into the reading list.

7. When creating a new list, provide sort options for numbered templates

   Some instructors want to create lists that show the most recent content first, so that their students can easily access the current week’s resources. For example, in a 12-week semester, they divide the list into sections by week and list them in reverse order (i.e. Week 12, Week 11, Week 10, etc.). They release each section at the start of the corresponding week, so that students can focus on the relevant content.

   However, currently there is no easy way to create such a list using a numbered template. The default order for the numbered template is ascending (i.e. Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, etc.) and the instructor has to manually change the order of the sections if they want to reverse it, which they can only do after the list is created. This is a tedious and time-consuming process that could be simplified.

   Adding a sort order option for numbered templates would address this issue. This option would allow the instructor to choose whether they want to use the ascending or the descending order for the sections. For example, if they select the descending order, the template would automatically generate the sections in reverse order (i.e. Week 12, Week 11, Week 10, etc.). This would make it easier for the instructor to create a list that shows the most recent content first and save them a lot of hassle. 8. Enhance Browzine integration to add journal covers as citation thumbnails

   The Leganto Browzine integration currently only supports the full text linking functionality. One of the other features of Browzine is the ability to display journal covers. In Leganto we frequently find that journal covers are not available from the out of the box service and the users see a generic thumbnail image instead. This reduces the visual appeal of Leganto.

   This idea is to enhance the current Browzine integration to retrieve journal covers when they are not available from the Leganto out of the box service. By enhancing the Browzine integration we will see more journal covers for article and journal citations on lists, which will improve the user experience and satisfaction with Leganto.

   Attached is a screenshot of some journal article citations showing how the thumbnails display today in Leganto compared to how they display in Primo (which uses the Browzine thumbnail integration).

9. Adding tags from Cite it

   Currently there is no way to add tags at the same time as you create a citation from Cite it. You have to first add the citation to the list, then open the list, find the citation and finally add tags. This is a cumbersome and inefficient process that could be improved.

   Cite it has other features that allow you to add public notes, due dates and creative commons licenses to your citations. These features are not as widely used as tags, but they are available at the time of creating a citation. Having the ability to add tags at the time of creating a citation would make Cite it more consistent and user-friendly.

   With the upcoming re-design of Cite it for the new user interface, it would be a good opportunity to enhance the functionality. Adding tags at the same time as creating a citation would save time and effort, making Cite it a better tool for instructors.

10. Support search fields in the Leganto Primo Mapping table

    In the Leganto Primo Mapping table, PNX search fields are currently not supported (besides search/creationdate). We have the following use case that requires the support of search fields: we want to display thumbnails in Leganto for citations from our many external data sources in Primo VE. To achieve this, we had to map the url of the thumbnail to a Leganto field. Of course, we do not want to display the url in the Primo UI, and we have no free display field that we could use for this purpose.
    In addition, it would be also great if local fields were supported.

11. Usability of Favorites in LTI view - How to access them

    Using the LTI view (Blackboard Ultra site) the left menu (Lists and Favorites) is invisible which confines the view to the context of the LMS site the user is in. I can see why we would want to do that. However, it has the effect of making it virtually impossible for educator or student to be able to use their favorites.

    Scenario: Educator adds a citation to their list in the LTI view, then decides it is so good they want to add it to their other lists. They copy it to their favorites.... then what! (They could just copy to other lists, but maybe it’s easier path from favorites to just suggest it a few times and then visit the list and decide where it best fits)

    Scenario: Student is viewing their reading list and decides they want to use a citation in their assignment. They save it to their favorites.... then what!

    Scenario: Educator wants students to suggest readings to the list, and tries to show them how to do it in class. Umm.... not sure how to get to Favorites.

    Their only option is to open in a new tab - but they don't know that, there is no clue.

    A couple of visual clues to students and educators to escape the LTI view if they want to:

    1. When the user saves a favorite, modify the confirmation message to give them a link/hint how to view manage their favourites and open in a new tab.

    2. Display an LTI-customised view of the user icon at top right with links to:

    3. My lists [external link icon and/or text "in new tab"

    4. My favorites [external link icon and/or text "in new tab"

    Hide the "logout" menu option in LTI view.

    If these personalised My Lists/My Favorites were also added to the standalone (not LTI) view then they should not open a new tab, but just work the same way as the left menu.

    If an institution has multiple viewers configured for Alma D files, then in Leganto both will appear in the Links/availability area. However, if the educator decides that one of the viewers is better suited for their pedagogical requirements (e.g. Universal viewer has specific features for images/3d objects) and tries to hide the Alma Viewer, then both are hidden.

    I feel like this is a bug, as both links have separate "hide" links, but hiding one hides both - they are not isolated. Yet, the Mark as Broken links do work independently.

    I was asked to submit to the idea exchange for these to be isolated, to gauge interest in the community. It's not the highest priority for us yet, but we have had some talk about 3D objects and the viewer experience is markedly different if that eventuates.

    Whatever viewer settings are configured apply to all Alma D files - there is not control from within Leganto.

14. Make the template wizard accessible

    Make the template wizard in the new UI accessible at any point during the creation of the list, not just at the initial setup stage. This would mean that if the list creator removed everything from their list to start again, or wanted to have merged templates (ie a week by week and a bibliography) they wouldn't have to create every section individually from that point.

15. Scheduling the dates of visibility of citations/attachments in NUI

    We want to limit the dates between which citations or attachments can be viewed/downloaded. This is available in the classic interface but not in the new one.

    It is usefulI when you (librarian or instructor) want to prepare the complete reading list at the beginning of the course, to set the dates on which citations/attachments will be made visible to users. This is good when your course works with case studies in a big way, for example.
    In this situation, or similar, it is important because you are working with materials which students have to download and you don't want to overwhelm the students with too much workload at once and you don't want to have to schedule in your calendar the days when you have to activate the resources, because you already have your planning created since the beginning of the course and you know exactly when you want these materials to be displayed/available for download.
    It is not an alternative to hide/unhide whole sections, because it would sometimes result in a lot of sections created only for 1 citation under each other.

    Today, with the NUI, instructors are losing the control they used to have over their lists when using classic interface.

16. Add Workflow Notes to Reading List Citation Slips

    Currently, Reading list citation slips are not configured to include Workflow Notes, which means processing instructions are not included on the pull slips and that information must be retrieved separately. It would expedite reading list processing to have Workflow Notes included in these slips (which currently include basic bibliographic information, call number, and bar code).

17. A designated field for E-locators in citations

    We would like a separate field for e-locators in Leganto citations.

    The publisher's use of this identifier is increasingly common, and included in several reference styles, such as APA. Today, the e-locator appears in the page number field, which can be confusing. The field should also be included in the export to RIS and to reference managers like Endnote.

    A designated e-locator field would also be useful for Primo displays.

19. Change visibility of the availability of physical copies for instructors

    New interface: The visibility of the availability of physical copies is different according to the role of the user. Surprisingly, the visibility of the instructor or librarian role is less complete than the visibility of the guest or student role.
    Also, when you are librarian or instructor, you are unavailable to see easily the availability of physical items. You see the text "Physical item" but this is not a link, and you have to do a lot of non-intuitive clicks to finish how many items we have or where they are. It is possible that there is no physical element in the library and the instructor may never notice it.
    Attached the two visibilities (Pic1=non-intuitive visibility -only for instructors and librarians-, Pic2=intuitive visibility -students and guest users-).

    We want all users, independently of their role, to have the same intuitive visibility.

    We will make this change in Q1 2024.

20. Remove the fields "Required Chapters" and "Total Chapters Count" from the Copyright Attributes page when Book Extract is the citation materi

    Our Copyright Officer has informed the library to make a change in how we label our representations and to use Book Extract as the citation material type if only a few pages of a chapter are being used. This is a change for the library as we previously used Book Chapter and labelled the representation to indicate that only a part of the chapter has been used - example: Scan of chapter 3 [in part], p. 26-35: Moral constraints and the state.

    This is to ensure that the two fields are not accidently used by Library staff.
