  1. CDI records: please provide us the ORCIDs in the PNX record in a usable form

Unfortunately, we have received the following case response: "We have reviewed your request with our content operations team and determined that our system is currently not designed to provide the functionality you requested, so the next step is to pursue this as an enhancement."
So we hope to get support for our proposal in the Alma community.

We are currently working on making the ORCID more visible in our Primo (incl. linking to the ORCID entry of an author).

We are glad to see that CDI records already contain the ORCIDs in the PNX record.
    Unfortunately, they cannot be used…

  2. Provide Statistics about use of Primo Central Collections

It would be great if we can asses the usage of our licensed content via Primo. This will be valuable for our licensing decisions, as well it would be interesting for the hosts (Thomson Reuters, ProQuest...).

For instance, we like to know:

    • how often users view metadata (i.e. open details tab) of records from ProQuest's Collection for Dissertations & Theses

    • what is the ratio of view metadata to request fulltexts from the collection?

    • which providers (Thomson Reuters, ProQuest, ...) are used most (view + download), what are the top collections of each provider?

  3. "Did you mean" has no option for selecting, "No."

A librarian submitted the following question:

"If you do a search in the catalog for Andrew Lyght (he's an artist), you get the message "Do you mean Andrew Light?" and a whole bunch of results that have lyght spelled "light". There is no option to say "No, I mean Lyght."

I think the Google-like functionality of "did you mean..." is a good
direction to go in, but there needs to be an option to respond to that question, especially when what the catalog is guessing is wrong. Overall, this isn't a helpful implementation as it currently works."

  4. Usage Statistics view on the Library Search/Primo for Alma D

We know we can run usage statistics via alma analytics. The usage report is for the internal library staff to decide on different collections. I want to propose to add the functionality to Alma D, where everyone will see the usage report on Primo in a different facet. This is an essential feature, especially for the end-users. If the function is added, the end-users will be able to see the statistical report about the document/resource, i.e., When was the document/resource last used?

  5. Improve the search for non-preferred terms

The search of a non-preferred term works correctly with standard indexes.
Non-preferred terms are currently indexed in the creator, title and subject fields but they are not additionally indexed in a local search field.
For example the advanced search of a non-preferred term doesn't work when a local search field is chosen.

The search for non-preferred terms should be also enabled for local fields

  6. Display on the Location list: textual descriptions of the physical arrangement of a holding unit

Since the updates in January 2021, the Location list has become capable of displaying the Field 866, 852, etc.
There are cases in which the issues of a single journal title are located separately according to publication years. Here we present a case example to explain the situation:
Group 1: The issues published in the last several years; they are shelved in the “New Arrival.”
Group 2: The issues published several years before the Group 1; they are shelved in the “Back Numbers.”
Group 3: The issues published more than 20 years ago; they are shelved in the “Remote Storage.”

  7. Allow HTML coding for all labels

    Hi

Please allow HTML coding for all labels.
Including URLs via a href when the label isn't used as a link already.

This is working for a few labels, but far from all.

  8. OpenURL resolving - BaseURL configurable for extension to consortial network

If an OpenURL request comes from external to Primo VE, then only the inventory in the IZ is considered and there is no possibility to extend the request to the physical inventory of the corresponding consortial network.

Suggestion for an enhancement: the BaseURL for OpenURL-request should be configurable in a way that the argument "consortial network" can be included in the request [i.e. with the configuration it can be decided whether only
a.) the inventory of the IZ (or Campus)
    OR
b.) also the physical inventory of all libraries of the consortial network should be displayed (i.e. analogous to "search_scope")”

  9. Allow libraries to review PCI metadata in collections

We would like the ability to not only see more information about the collections (which is already another idea on here) but also the ability to see the metadata for each collection. For example, for Kanopy, we have loaded the MARC records into Alma, but would like to review what the metadata for the PCI collection looks like so we can make a decision about whether or not to enable it. We have no way to know what the PCI collection will add or do until we turn it on in production Primo.

  10. Primo does not work with some date formats used for old material and rare books.

Primo does not work with some date formats used for old material and rare books. The biggest problem is that Primo only recognises 4-digit dates and does not accommodate date searches for pre-1000 dates that have 3 digits or less. This issue greatly inhibits searches for a significant number of users of archives and rare material collections.

Primo also does not work well with dates in square brackets that include text and unknown dates that have a question mark or dash instead of the wildcard character ‘u’ - e.g. [i.e. 1973], [between 1772 and 1802?], 195? or 195-. These are…

  11. Report a problem - allow users to add an attachment

When patrons are reporting a problem in Primo user interface, usually adding a screenshot is very helpful for support.

Can "Add attachment" be added to the Report a problem form?

  12. Combine permalinks with citations in Primo

In Primo, the ability to copy citations is very useful, as is the ability to copy permalinks for individual records. When helping a patron via virtual reference (chat or email), it is cumbersome to, first, open and copy the citation, and second, open copy the permalink. It would make more sense to either hyperlink the citation with a stable link, or include the permalink after the citation in the same window.

  13. Primo VE: need for an option to Show All Items from a location

An option to show All items from a location should be available in Primo VE.
Currently if you want to display all items from a location, you have to use the 'Show More Items' button several times which can be very excruciating while displaying newspaper's items.

  14. Main menu on desktop - let us decide how many links to show

    Hi

On desktop, the main menu shows 6 links and then "..." to show the rest.

On desktop, there would be ample space to just show all the links instead of hiding some of them.

    https://utk.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/search?vid=01UTN_KNOXVILLE:01UTK&lang=en

    https://union.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/search?vid=01UCNY_INST:01UCNY_INST&lang=en

    https://nait.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/search?vid=01NOALTECH_INST:01NOALTECH&lang=en&sortby=rank

    https://primo.hope.edu/discovery/search?sortby=rank&vid=01COL_HOPE:HOPE

    https://col-westernsem.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/search?vid=01COL_WTS:WTS&lang=en

On the other hand, maybe a library wants to hide some links behind the "...", but wants to show fewer than 6 links before the dots.

    Please make this more flexible.

    Thank you
    Manuela

Our own main menu is at 6 links at the moment, but we plan to add more links https://basel.swisscovery.org/discovery/search?search_scope=UBS&vid=41SLSP_UBS:live&lang=en

  15. Make the Resource Recommender Banner fit the length of the resource description

The banner description text is truncated in the first line, making the display of the description dependent on its length and even shorter when viewed on mobile devices. It would be great if the height of the banner would auto-adjust to show all the text.

I attach images showing this (banner.png) and how we would like it to be displayed (banner_modified.png).

    Thanks

  16. Add a pre-filter for Peer-reviewed Journals

Our students would like the option to pre-filter their searches to articles published in Peer-reviewed journals. The current Primo configuration only allows this filter as a refining facet after searching.

  17. Extend the limit on the Summary Holdings Display to more than 10 holdings.

If a title is held at more than 10 locations, its holdings summary will not appear on the Locations page—however, the more locations, the higher demand for checking the range of the coverage. Therefore, please display all summary holdings regardless of the number of holdings.

  18. Journal Search: Consider the NZ activation for e-resources with Inventory Management Groups in the IZ

Our consortium activates Open Access e-collections in the Network Zone so that they are available in every IZ of the network. Electronic collections for Open Access e-resources are activated without any Inventory Management Group assigned to it. It should display for every IZ and every Inventory Management Group within the IZ.
Some of the licensed e-collections in the IZs also cover e-resources that are activated in the NZ as Open Access. (Journals can have partial Open Access) The IZs are using Inventory Management Groups, and the local views are assigned to the campuses of the specific Inventory Management Groups. The…

  19. A new type of search - Authority Search

Add Authority Search as a new type of search in Primo. The new feature will enable both patrons and librarians to search the authors and topical subjects from their authority records and link to the related records in their local catalog(s) and preferably also CDI.
The search will be based on alma's authority files and Linked Open Data.

This development was part of the Primo roadmap for 2021 and was removed.

A similar search option was implemented at the University of Haifa using local customizations and a dedicated search scope + view.
It enables to search a term only on…
