Create/add in the ability to show and filter ALL content by place of publication and other data point relevant for decolonising collections
With linked data being such a big part of what has being talked about so far in relation to NDE and AI being used in some new projects such as Primo:Research Assistant, we feel that it's the best time to think about using this data and the data in the CDI records to try and develop tools to identifying, show, filter place of publication or nationality of authors.
We have developed our own facet using local fields, regular expressions and information in the MARC 008 to display the place of publication for items in our collection and filter by facet on them too. This was based on instructions found here : https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Knowledge_Articles/How_to_create_a_dynamic_facet_in_Primo_VE
Our Primo instance with it added can be found here : https://shu.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/search?vid=44SHU_INST:44SHU_VU2
This was developed following requests and with great interest and appetite from our (subject) librarians for more tools to help with decolonising and diversifying our collection. However, because of using the local field creation this is only working for our local records and can't be applied to the everything search option that encompasses CDI records. Something that would work for all records would be our preference.

Hi Stacey - in response, our current workaround is for local only - we have enabled it only appear when searching in local catalogue scopes so it's only available when it's only local records being searched - hence current limitation and enhancement suggestion as this limitation was seen as frustrating to our subject librarians. We also used reg ex to amalgamate US states to just be USA, Australian territories into just Australia, Canadian proviences to just Canada and countries in the UK to just UK to avoid flooding or facet with the specifics that weren't needed. - to be clear i would anticipate this idea to include that level of development to recognise and putt place of publication together into a country level. - again apologies for not making it clearer on the entry.

I've noticed student queries seeking ability to limit results by place. Use cases include higher degree students for a specific research focus, or undergraduates who have assignments where their lecturers stipulate that they need to include national or regional emphasis.
It's certainly an issue to have a facet like this which only has local results, as I can imagine patrons being upset with potentially being misled when using it and not realising that they are excluding all CDI results even though publication information is visible in the records.
It might still be difficult also though to make such a facet meaningful and useful, given the place of publication could be very granular to a particular state, when patrons might be interested in a country. That would be onerous to manage for selections, particularly with facet value limits.
Overall though, it would be great to have the option of a blended facet for this, for records from all data sources including CDI. -

Forgot to include - not just place of publication but also author affiliations (e.g. uni or institute they may work at.)
