  1. Primo Name/Title Browse Searches

    Primo Name/Title Browse Searches

As frequent Primo users searching for known music items, the Alma Music Users Group would like to propose that Ex Libris create a left-anchored browse search for name/title entries found in bibliographic records. An alphabetical left-anchored browse search is particularly helpful for known-item searches that are often used for music materials and prolific literary authors.

Currently, Primo provides browse search options for names (name portion only ($a,$q,$d)) and name/title headings used as subjects. For prolific authors, it is not unusual to find thousands of name/title headings lumped under the composers or authors name, with “20+ records”…

  2. Apply Controlled Vocabulary Service to Primo Browse

Currently, the Controlled Vocabulary Service is only applied to Primo Search. With the CVS, when users search for a term like "heart attack", they see both the list of all results and a message at the top of the results saying "Including 'myocardial infarction'. Just search 'heart attack'". This allows the user to specify which terms are in use, and to narrow them to just the specific term searched for if desired. Primo Browse lacks this service, and only returns precise results, but it would still be useful for users to be presented with an option to instead see similar…

  3. Enable retrieval with/without/compound hyphens in Hebrew

It is very important to enable the search in Primo with and without hyphen to retrieve all relevant records (with hyphen, without hyphen and as compound words).
Some examples of current discrepancies in retrieval are:

    צפון-קרוליינה retrieved 2 results
    צפון קרוליינה retrieved 486 results

    עת-מול retrieved zero results
עת מול retrieved 83 results, including the title עת-מול : עתון לתולדות ארץ ישראל ועם ישראל. ‬

searching using the pre-filter Title and limiting to 2010-2021 for
    ארצות הברית retrieves 71 results
    ארצות-הברית

  4. Reflect "Unpaywall API respons" in the availability of the title list.

    1. Current system behavior
Unpaywall API response has no impact on the 'Full text online' indication of the title list..

    2. What is this problem?
Even titles that can be accessed with unpaywall are not displayed as "[Available online]", it makes problem for users to understand.

    3.Improving idea
Reflect "Unpaywall API respons" in the availability of the title list.
This improvement will enhance users' access to information.

  5. move the favicon to the top level (outside /img) to fix Firefox bookmarks

    Hi

The favicon for our view is stored in the /img folder within the customization package.

For Firefox to display it correctly when I have the URL in my bookmark bar, the favicon needs to be outside the /img folder.

    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1230644
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1226447

"the saved bookmark favicon image was located in other than the website server file path root directory which was the original W3C standard for favicon placement for web browsers to loom for it"

As long as the favicons are stored within /img, they display ok in the tabs of Firefox, but get lost when I drag the URL…

  6. Permit creation of a stable URL that would lead to a simple search with all records limited by any facets, e.g., location.

We'd like to create stable links to entire collections for use on our website, guides and course shells. For example, a link that leads to all records with a given location.

This is currently possible for Advanced Search with a pre-filter. But users are distracted by Advanced Search's space and complexity, which pushes the results down the page. And if there are multiple languages or material types, the pre-filters would be overly restrictive.

  7. Main menu on desktop - let us decide how many links to show

    Hi

On desktop, the main menu shows 6 links and then "..." to show the rest.

On desktop, there would be ample space to just show all the links instead of hiding some of them.

    https://utk.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/search?vid=01UTN_KNOXVILLE:01UTK&lang=en

    https://union.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/search?vid=01UCNY_INST:01UCNY_INST&lang=en

    https://nait.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/search?vid=01NOALTECH_INST:01NOALTECH&lang=en&sortby=rank

    https://primo.hope.edu/discovery/search?sortby=rank&vid=01COL_HOPE:HOPE

    https://col-westernsem.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/search?vid=01COL_WTS:WTS&lang=en

On the other hand, maybe a library wants to hide some links behind the "...", but wants to show fewer than 6 links before the dots.

    Please make this more flexible.

    Thank you
    Manuela

Our own main menu is at 6 links at the moment, but we plan to add more links https://basel.swisscovery.org/discovery/search?search_scope=UBS&vid=41SLSP_UBS:live&lang=en

  8. Availability status for webhooks

The availability status for Primo Search Webhook records (such as for Newsbank) is always "Check for available services." Our users are accustomed to seeing this status when materials are not available full text online, and we would like the availability status to better indicate that full text is available. It would be great if the default display could be changed to "Available online" for these materials or if we had the ability to modify the display only for webhooks.

  9. Show exact number of results when browsing instead of 20+

When browsing subjects in Primo, if a result has more than 20 results attached to a single subject entry, that subject displays "20+ records" instead of a specific number, which is what Primo shows for any total less than 20. This happens because Primo uses the Alma browse functionality, but this is not as informative to users as it should be. Instead, users have to click the heading before they can see the exact count of associated records.

  10. Physical items sort routine by date - enable I J K descending, but A B C ascending

    Hi
We're running into a problem with the Physical items sort routine - Sort according to date.

For journals, we want to sort the latest item on top, this works correctly with
Sort according to chronology I/U/K (year/month/day) - Descending

    Example
    https://basel.swisscovery.org/discovery/fulldisplay?vid=41SLSP_UBS:live&search_scope=UBS&tab=UBS&docid=alma9910177740105504&lang=en&context=L

    BUT
The same sort routine is also used for multi volume monographs.
We found out that if we only fill out conditions for Chronology I J K, but those fields are empty, the barcode gets used for sorting.
    Which leads to wrong sorts.

    So we had to add
    Enumeration A, B, C as a condition.

    This leads to…

  12. Switching number of titles per page should not jump to top of page

    Hi

At the moment, the switch for to more titles per page is only possible at the bottom of a page
    https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308176-primo/suggestions/43465527-display-pagination-navigation-on-top-of-resultpage

But when I do this, I get moved back to the top of the page. This is bad UX. My position on the page should not change.

  13. citation linker - highlight required fields

I'm suggesting an out of the box configuration option to highlight the required fields in the citation linker. I have adjusted the text, to let our users know that an identifier is required but the text can easily be missed. We recently migrated to Alma/Primo VE and when we had 360/Summon, we were able to highlight the required fields in the citation linker. I am investigating CSS customization options.

  17. Support html in GES public notes in How to Get it section

We are considering moving a couple of our general electronic services from the "Links" section to the "How to Get it" section. However HTML tags in the public note are not recognised when we change it from Links to How to Get It.

    See cases: 00987379 & 00987406

I would have expected that public notes should always support HTML tags as they are exposed publicly via Primo.

https://www.screencast.com/t/v3OGDhcrDG5j - illustration showing that <b> tags in the Links area make text bold, but encoding is displayed int eh How to Get it section.

  20. Default Sortting option for the historic loans

When opening the historic loans tab , the "Sort by" dropdown default value is empty and the results are not sorted.
So historic loans details are shown at random.
Only when the user selects the desired "Sort by" value as "Returned date - newest", the results will sort.

Please make the default option "Returned date - newest" for the historic loans.
Then users can immediately check the book with the latest return date.

    Thanks in advanced.
