Integrate Global Index look up into Borrowing Request Form. Allowing selected GI result to overlay request for better recalculation
Currently, when a Borrowing Request in Alma has poor metadata, to improve the bib or create new request from Global Index is a manual, multi-step process. Staff must often:
- Create a brand new request.
- Manually copy/paste requester information to the new request.
- Cancel the original request or perform a complex "mend and recalculate" workflow.
Solution
We propose integrating Global Index Search directly into the Borrowing Request Form.
- Interface Update: Add a "Search" (magnifying glass) icon next to key bibliographic fields: Title, Author, and ISBN/ISSN.
- Workflow Integration: Clicking this icon should trigger a lookup in the Global Index based on that field's value.
- Merge/Overlay Capability: Upon selecting a high-quality record from the search results, Alma should allow a direct merge or overlay onto the current request's bibliography.

Hello Paul,
Are you familiar with the enrich from global index action available in borrowing requests? From, what I'm understanding, I believe this action is what you are looking for. This action searches based on request data, finds similar results, allows users to modify search query, then select a result. The selection pulls result metadata into the request.
