WAYFless URL to access RefWorks 3 directly without using login page.
We would need a WAYFless URL to RefWorks 3. In our workflows users want to go directly to RefWorks 3 from within other applications. The route to go to the login page is not needed with a WAYFLess URL. Haveing requested this already three years ago nothing seems to have happened. Frustrating.
55 votesI am happy to update that WAYFless support was released on April 20, 2021. Refer to the release notes in the following link for additional information: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/RefWorks/Release_Notes/RefWorks_Release_Information/070_2021_RefWorks_Release_Information

Please make it possible to move large numbers of references from the last import page to a folder, all at once
I have just imported 7600 references that I want to put all into the same folder (working on a systematic review). I can only move small quantities at a time as the select all features is limited to the records displayed. Selecting "display 2000 records" causes refworks to crash.
4 votesReferences may be assigned to specific folder during import. RefWorks also allows new folder creation during import to easily assign references during import.

Replace interstitial page with login page that directs users to Legacy or New depending on credentials
The interstitial page confuses our students because if they are new to RefWorks, they have no idea which option to choose. If you could replace the interstitial page with a log in page - that includes the option to create an account (this would go to New RefWorks) - everyone would be so much happier.
2 votesLegacy platform has been deactivated; all imports are directed to RefWorks.

Link to pubmed
The old RefWorks version had an option to open the reference in pubmed, that option is not there with the updated ProQuest version? I need to use the update view since google docs and word docs do not link to the old version. I would like a link so I can directly open a reference in pubmed again, please.

Configure the "Citation View" "Settings" icon (the "Gear") to function in the Firefox browser
The "Settings" gear icon in the "Citation View" does not function in the Firefox browser, i.e., the "Gear" icon does not respond to a mouse click. This feature works in Chrome as described in the User Guide and, once set using Chrome, displays the Citation Style selected using the Chrome browser.

don't automatically add a bibliography!
I use google docs to write my papers and find it really annoying that RefWorks automatically adds a bibliography entry when I'm adding a reference. Footnotes are included in my institution's word count, but the bibliography is not, so when the bib is automatically added it disrupts my word count and makes it harder to quickly see where I'm up to. Is there any way I can turn this feature off and then just install the bibliography when I've finished the paper? thanks!
7 votesI’m happy to notify that the updated RCM version is now available in the Microsoft store; it allows users to turn the bibliography on or off at any time. Users who have previously installed RCM will automatically be updated to the new version.

Suggestion about de-duplicate feature
After running the duplicate checker, items that result are check-marked by default. In my view, it would be better that none of them are check-marked by default. Then the user can check-mark just the ones they want to delete, without having first to deselect all the items.
9 votesWith deduplication improvements released in 2023, user may deselect all re-selected references with one click.

Provide the ability for admins to remove Institutional Styles
Somehow, we have managed to get multiple occurances of the same Style set as Institutional Styles. I am told this is a known issue and that Development are aware but with no date for a resolution. It would be useful if Admins could remove Institutional Styles no matter what account they are from
41 votesHappy to update this idea was done in the January monthly release. Admins can delete any institutional style belonging to their institution. Assign custom sorting: chronologically, but in 17th ed. Chicago Style-Notes and Bib
While I want my entries to remain in Chicago Style, sometimes it is helpful to sort chronologically, but in more detail than RW currently allows which is only by year then author. I want to order the list more accurately: Year Ascending; Month Ascending; Day Ascending; Author; Title. I realize I can reorder the fields to begin with the full date, but then they are not in Chicago Style. How can I reorder the citations to be truly chronological (as I will have multiple dates within each year), without changing the Chicago Style order of each field?

Option to add to the field "short title" to the bibliography, citations and footnotes
In the citation style editor I am not able to add the field "short title" to my bibliography, citations or footnotes. Only the reference type Generic contains the field short title.
But for some citation styles it is required.4 votes -
Warning that a reference is already in Refworks when import it
I would be great, if Refworks detects duplicates while I import references. RefWorks could ask: "This is already in your RefWorks database. Do you want to import it anyway?"
126 votesRefWorks can now recognize and ignore duplicates during import.

Annoying bug in Write-n-Cite for Word
I think this has only come up with the last few versions and I just tried that it exists with 4.5.1682.
When Write-n-Cite is installed and activated in Word but user has not logged in to it (because not actively using it), Word shows up the Write-n-Cite login dialog every time a document is opened via the Word recent files.
This is a problem because we have deployed Write-n-Cite to all our campus workstations and obviously not everyone uses it.
I think that this is a bug that needs to be looked into.

Provide admin level option not to display the combined export page
Allow admins to remove the "Which version of RefWorks would you like to export to?" page from view at the institutional account level and force export into New RefWorks.
8 votesPage updates have been completed; the page will remain active as long as legacy RefWorks is in use. Users can check the box for not being asked again and they will not see the page again.

Make the DOI field editable
Being unable to edit the DOI field in RefWorks creates a huge disincentive, especially for APA users. RefWorks needs to update to the latest DOI format (https:) or make the field accept the updated DOI prefix. Users now have to manually edit the DOI in their document. We are getting a lot of complaints from our users.
Users also have to delete the unnecessary database URL that is imported with every citation.

Delete the "Search Databases" option.
Please give Administrators the power to remove this option from RefWorks. We spend a great deal of time teaching students how to use our library's federated search tool. This option of choosing individual databases while in RefWorks defeats that purpose. If users want to search a particular database, that can easily be done from our library's website.
83 votesI am happy to update that the RefWorks October release includes a new admin setting for hiding Search Databases from users at the institution. As with any Admin setting, don’t forget to press Save to have it go into effect.

allow sorting of references
When viewing references, allow sorting options by date, author(s), title, etc.
19 votesReferences may be sorted in Table View (and all other views) by Date added, Date modified, Date published, Title, Author or RefID. Ordering may be in descending or ascending order. Page display limit is 2000, but now all references are sorted.

Change Write-n-Cite 4.5 so that multiple authors with the same surname are distinguished by a suffix (a,b etc) on the date.
WnC 4.5 deals with authors that have the same surname differently to WnC 4.4. Our style is based on a version of Harvard and in WnC 4.4 in text citations for authors with the same surname are given the suffix of a,b etc onto the date e.g: (Smith, 2008a), (Smith, 2008b) to distinguish them. In the new version (4.5) if these authors have different initials, then that is added into the citation e.g: (A. Smith, 2008), (B. Smith, 2008).
If the citations in question have different years - then initials are added to that as well e.g: (A. Smith, 2008),…
57 votesI’m happy to update that author disambiguation was included in the April release, and is available under Create Bibliography in RefWorks. An upcoming release will include it in RCM as well. We are looking to have WnC “inherit” this setting from RefWorks in a later release.

Deduplication of sub-folders, or between folders
I would like to be able to de-duplicate sub-folders, for example where each sub-folder contains the results from a database search for a systematic review.
Alternatively, a user should be able to choose to de-duplicate any two or more folders in refworks.
16 votesRefWorks is pleased to announce this feature was released in the November 2022 update.
