  2. Adding a URL/ DOI at the appropriate times, depending on the source

We tell students that when they access one of our databases and export to RefWorks, then they can treat the journal article as a print copy – i.e. they don’t need to put the URL or the date they accessed it – see 1st ref example. If they get an article from Google Scholar, then they need to add the URL and the date they accessed it – see 2nd ref example.

  3. citas hipertextuales

  4. Capture PMID from CINAHL records upon import

EBSCO has isolated the PMID in as a piece of data in their CINAHL records; however, this doesn’t appear to be captured in an import into RefWorks. Please capture this item when available in CINAHL records.

  5. allow to search for citation using the URL field - not just the title field.

When a user is looking to manually build a citation, allow the lightening bolt tool to operate on the URL field rather than title of the document field. This is the standard in other Citation builders and students are often looking for it.

  6. Include referring URL or permalink

RefWorks should capture the referring URL or (when coming from an ExL/ProQuest property) the permalink for a record when importing. This would help patrons go back to where they found the item, in case they need more details about it, want to get the item, or want to find other things like it.

  7. Clear last imported folder when a new import is made

In RefWorks original, when you import a reference set, the Last Imported folder was reset, so only that import is contained in the folder.

Now, "Last Imported" isn't last imported, it's ALL references imported in the last 30 days!

At best, it now requires the additional steps of selecting and clearing references from the so-called last imported folder before you import new references; and if you forget, the old references are left in with the new references, making it harder to work on only the new references.

If you insist on keeping it this way, then rename the folder "Recently…

  8. Improve import of author's names

The most common problem we see with the formatting of references is that the author's first and last name are treated as one field, so that the in-text citation would read (Ali Smith, 2017) rather than (Smith, 2017). This happens quite a lot, is there a way to improve the export/importing of author's names?

  11. Be able to support https callback.

It does not support https callback right now. With the wide-spread adoption of https, this should be supported.

  12. Remove formating on import

Cut and pasted or imported html to be stripped before adding to RefWorks. This would separate the content from it's styling and allow the selected citation style to work correctly.

  13. Set default folder

How about a feature to set a default folder where refs are uploaded? I'm using the taskbar function to save to RefWorks and I'm required to assign the folder manually from the user interface every time.

  15. Make 'Save to Refworks' tab more compatible with ProQuest articles

Articles retrieved from ProQuest are interpreted as Web Pages instead of Journal Article and information has to be manually entered.

  16. Improve print/electronic differentiation in imported book references

The default setting for book imports is for electronic books and it is, in my experience, not apparent to users until an inaccurate bibliography is created.

    Perhaps you could:
    A) Change the default from electronic to print
    B) Bring the 'this is an electronic resource' tick-box to the top of the screen when a user imports a book record.

  17. Copy and paste ready-material citation style from other Sources

Ready-made citations are provided in some databases. However, there is no 'copy and paste' function in Refworks to import them. The articles from four very popular databases cannot be grabbed by 'Save to Refworks' - Britannica School, Questia, Statista and Discovery Education Streaming. But the databases provide citations, it is ashamed that the data cannot be transferred to Refworks easily.

  18. Include resource types for Interview and Survey

Interview and Survey are 2 very common and popular resources types for student's project. However, they cannot be found on the pull down menu under 'Resources Type".
