  1. Integrate Summon with Sierra for Live Catalog Updates and Deletes

Instead of sending the daily updates/deletes in Sierra catalog, having a process that preform this task instantly will improve the search results immediately and will free library staff to do other pending tasks

  2. client center

The Client Center staff-side user interface needs to be updated. It looks and functions almost the the same as it did when we first used Serials Solutions in 2004. It's slow and fails accessibility testing.

  3. User defined facet

Please add the feature "User defined facet".

As Summon over Alma user, we feel current default facets sometimes are not enough to filter library records. For exmaple, there is no way to filter Print Journal. If Summon prepares "User difined facet", we can provide the detailed library records via Summon to our patrons.

  4. SAML authentication

We would like to login with SAML through eduGAIN

There is a "new" interfederated login with SAML through eduGAIN

Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) is a member of the Swedish Academic Identity Federation – Swamid.
There are similar solutions for universities around the world.
Swamid is a member of the Interfederation eduGAIN (https://edugain.org/).

Our IdP is published through the Swamid Metadata and eduGAIN interfederated Metadata.
The metadata for the IdP (supplied through Swamid/eduGAIN) is stripped, so it only contains the necessary information for the federated authentication.
We prefer that all federated authentication and Metadata exchange are handled through…

  5. Allow merging of duplicate metadata records for newspaper articles prior to January 1, 2000.

I reported a case of 12 metadata records for the same NYT newspaper article. Search: "carmichael oregon high desert"

This was the response from support:

Records with the resource type "newspaper articles" from before January 1, 2000 - CANNOT MERGE.
Unfortunately it seems that CDI is currently not designed to provide the functionality described.
The next step is to pursue this as an enhancement.

  6. Scrolling improvement on facet pane

When the screen is scrolled to the bottom of the search results list, the refinement function is not visible. It is desirable to be able to scroll facet portion and search result display portion independently.

  7. Improve author search in Summon

Users are frustrated trying to limit a search to a specific author. I.e. using Author: "kelly, Daniel" - the results returned are for Kelly, Daniel J ; Kelly, Daniel P etc.

Why is this search function not more precise, and returning only Kelly, Daniel ?

  8. Upping the limit of characters in the menu setting

We would like it if we could up the limit of characters in the menu settings part of the admin tools in intota. Currently the limit seems to be 50 characters.

  9. Filtering titles with status "under review" in client center e-catalog search

On "e-Catalog" search box in ClientCenter, admin cannot filter titles with "Status Is".

It will be helpful if we could sort titles on "e-Catalog" search box with the status "Under Review".

Because some admin would like to register a title as "Under review" title at first and then change it to "Subscribed" at a later time.

  10. Display multiple editions of a title in order, most recent first.

Multiple editions of a title often display in the Summon search results in a seemingly random order. Different editions of the same title should display in a logical order with the most recent edition first. We have reported countless instances of this behaviour over the years and are told that it is unfixable due to the quality of metadata.

Summon should link different editions of a title together so it can display them in a logical order. As Summon will not always be able to do this accurately, give customers a way to edit and improve the data so we…

  11. Enable search by full DOI URL

In the E-Journal Portal, it would be helpful to enable lookup by the full DOI URL.
For example, entering "https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jpag.2021.01.016" would still search for "10.1016/j.jpag.2021.01.016"

  12. Filtering Journals based on Indexing like ABDC, ABS, FT 50, Web of Scince, SCOPUS, Both Scopus & WOS

Filtering Journals based on Indexing like ABDC, ABS, Web of Scince, SCOPUS, Both Scopus & WOS

As this filter option is necessary for the research scholars & faculty members literature review purposes. They focus on particular category journals for literature search.

We would appreciate it if you could take forward this suggestion to your development team.

I will be happy to support & provide the necessary data for this implementation process.

  13. The ability to edit eBook title and publication year metadata in Summon

Is it possible to give librarians the ability to edit certain eBook metadata (title, publication year) ourselves in order to improve match and merge functionality. We have so many duplicate records because the metadata from the Summon index is poor, titles and/or publication year are wrong, leading it to not merge with our catalog record. Is it possible to give the control to the Librarians to edit that metadata to allow for less duplicate records without having to put in Support tickets all the time with long lists of duplicate records to fix?

  14. Availability in Location Items section

For a journal, each value in the calculated availability is calculated independently, based on the lowest and highest value of the items, even if they do not come from the same items.
I.E: if we have the following items:
    2022,1 to 2022,4 and 2023,1

in Summon the availability is displayed with:
    from:1 2022 until:4 2023

    instead of
    from:1 2022 until:1 2023

We would like change the summary calculation in availability.

  15. Link Summon to Alma Sandbox

As Summon over Alma customer, we request Summon Preview Environment is link to Alma Sandbox.
For example, the link "My Library Account" is linked to "https://.alma.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/account?vid=*****_INST:Services&section=overview&lang=e now.
However, the link should be going to Sandbox.

  16. Please change the contents of "Problem Link Report" email being sent out

If you don't have the original text in Google Scholar and when clicking find@ and there will be a button to request help from the library. If you use that button to request a copy, an email will be sent to the administrator.

Could you change the content of "problem link report" email form a little?

  17. CDI Display Document Attributes

The "CDI Display Document Attributes" functionality in Primo allows preprints to be labelled. There is an ongoing problem in Summon where aggregators and publishers use the same electronic collections but provide a different level of access. Especially with preprints - which look like broken links because aggregators dont provide them but they are included in results because publishers do.

This functionality could identify preprints so users would have a better idea of why they can't access them.

Can this functionality please be made available to Summon users?

  18. Limit purchase request by material type

At present, purchase requests cannot be limited by material type, e.g. users can request that we purchase ebooks but not ejournals. I think this could be achieved with Display Logic.
Can this functionality please be added?

  19. Make searches with ‘query expansion’ customisable

We would like to be able to add, remove or edit query expansion topic matches to improve the topic and subject matches and prevent incorrect query expansion.

Query expansion is supposed to link synonymous subjects and topics, so the user doesn’t have to enter all terms in their search (e.g. ‘heart attack’ and ‘myocardial infarction’). Sometimes the query expansion function gives incorrect or unhelpful topic matches. For example a search for ‘civil litigation’ automatically expands to include ‘jurisprudence’. These are not synonymous terms.

ExLibris tell us that currently it isn’t possible to change or remove specific instances of query expansion,…

  20. LC Call Number Browse Relevance Searching

When searching by LC call number in Summon, it matches to the Cutter number as well as to the LC call number. The default "relevance" ordering doesn't put the call numbers that begin with the LC call number at the top of the list. There isn't a choice to force that ordering. In Alma, it is possible to search by shelf list, so it shouldn't be that difficult to do the same on the public side of a shelf list.
