  1. Include a "Library" facet and a "Location" facet

For Summon institutions with multiple libraries, it would be useful to include facets for library locations and collection type locations.

For example, users could filter by the library building using the "Library" facet, and also filter by collection type (ex. Stacks, Reference, Reserves) by using the "Location" facet.

Currently with the "Library Location" facet, library buildings and collection locations are listed here and connected only with "OR". By separating them into their own facets, we can utilize the "AND" logic.

Application example- We have students asking if we have a certain textbook that circulates. It would be great to search…

  2. Have the ability to change from OR to AND in the list of subjects

Right now, unless something has changed, when we use the Subjects list to apply additional terms, the OR statement is automatic and there is no alternative. However, that is not necessarily how a student thinks when selecting Subjects. There are many times one will want to have more than one subject term added to the search with an AND statement.

So, for example, if I am looking at "emergency nursing" and I see in the subjects list "hospitals" and "health policy & services" I may want both terms in my search not either.

If it's doable, it would be nice…

  3. Ability to filter results by format in Summon, e.g. search for books, articles etc.

As in Primo, provide a mechanism to allow users to search within specific indexes, e.g. to search books, journals, articles separately. This is particularly important when search results cannot be ranked as we would wish, e.g. journal articles before journal titles.

  4. Be able to access usage statistics without needing the Discovery Admin role.

It would be good if Library Staff members, who are not system administrators, to have the ability to go into Summon's Usage analytics without needing the Discovery Admin role and access to the Summon Admin Console.

  6. Stop indexing Ebsco "abstract" results so they no longer appear in Summon "Full-Text" Results with broken links

One persistent problem we have between Summon and EBSCO is abstracts indexed as articles in Summon. Some journals index these abstracts as individual titles, which is why they get pulled into Summon as standalone full text articles, but EBSCO (which is where we have full text) does not index them at all. So not only does the openURL break, if you search for them in EBSCO you often get zero hits. Since we have so much full text in EBSCO, this accounts for a good many of our bad urls in Summon and it is frustrating and confusing for librarians…

  7. searching az list click on database - no list of your titles

we now use SFX and on the a z-list, our users can click on vendor (= database name) and then see all titles within this selection. pe click on sage and then see all your active sage titles.
We will shortly switch to 360 core client centre (and stop with sfx) We now do not see on the front on the new a-z list ejournals this functionality.
    Our users miss this

  8. Display parallel titles in Summon

The correction in Summon to index parallel titles as titles (instead of as subtitles) was welcomed; however, the resulting elimination of parallel titles in search results displays was not. In the current iteration of Summon, which parallel title appears in the catalog is solely left to chance, and whichever appears first in a bibliographic record. However, if Summon can display all other title subfields and information in search results, including subfields B, N and P, it should include parallel title information as well. The lack of parallel titles is problematic for patron search and retrieval. For example, a patron searching…

  12. Content Ingestion report - internal processing error

I think it would be useful if the record ID was included in this report so that we know which records are missing from summon.
At present this just seems like a black box; we have no idea what the problem is, how it is resolved and when/if it is resolved.

  16. Show unreceived orders in Summon

At the moment, items ordered in Alma are not displayed in Summon until they have been received by the library. We need lecturers and students to be able to follow the progress of requests they have made or check whether we have already ordered a book before requesting it.

Alma sends to Summon the following Availability information:
The status field ( AVA subfield code e) is used to display availability in Summon:

  17. Use Seamless Access for authentication

Seamless Access is a new tool for Single sign-on authentication, this is how they describe it:

SeamlessAccess enables true Single Sign-On. Your users will be able to sign in using their preferred sign in credentials, and will not be bothered for them again for all SeamlessAccess-enabled sites.

  18. Add OSCOLA as a referencing output option

We have a Law school who use OSCOLA (https://www.law.ox.ac.uk/research-subject-groups/publications/oscola) as their referencing style.
Would any other Summon users find it helpful if this referencing style could be added to the output options?

  19. Display all 300 subfields as the default for all media

Make display of all subfields from the 300 physical description field the default in Summon for all types of materials, in the catalog detail screen, results screens, and elsewhere. Currently, Summon only displays 300 MARC physical description information for books in search results and catalog detail pages; and even for books, only subfield “a” (pagination) is included. This means that patrons can’t see information like: number of DVDs or CDs in a set; whether movies are in black-and-white or color; playing time of DVDs or CDs; any accompanying materials like booklets with DVDs or CDs in book-and-CD sets; types and…

  20. Refine RTA for Institutional Reporsitories

At present all results for our Institutional repositry have "Full Text Online" as the RTA text. However some of these are not full text at all, just records of book chapters/articles submitted by researchers. This gives a false impression to the end user that there is always full text. It is probably too difficult to create a mapping for all the permutations, but it would be a start to allow the records that belong to the Institutional repository have their own RTA text, such as "View in the Institutional Repository".
