  1. "Refine Your Search" improvement with OR search

It would be useful to be able to narrow down "Refine Your Search" items by multiplying high priority items by OR search. For example, it would be good to be able to narrow down the search to only those contents that fall under either "Library Catalog" OR "Full Text Online". Currently, when all items in "Refine Your Search" are checked, they are narrowed down by AND search.

  2. Add OSCOLA as a referencing output option

We have a Law school who use OSCOLA (https://www.law.ox.ac.uk/research-subject-groups/publications/oscola) as their referencing style.
Would any other Summon users find it helpful if this referencing style could be added to the output options?

  3. Index the Journal of Clinical Ethics at the article level

I've been receiving reports from users that note linking to specific articles in the Journal of Clinical Ethics via Summon is currently problematic. The article links in Summon will bring users to the latest issue of appropriate journal, but not to the article specified.

Here’s four examples that have been noted:
De Vries, RG, Paruchuri, Y, Lorenz, K & Vedam, S (2013) Moral Science: Ethical Argument and the Production of Knowledge about Place of Birth, Journal of Clinical Ethics, 24:3, 225-38.

Howe, EG (2013) When a Mother Wants to Deliver with a Midwife at Home, Journal of Clinical Ethics, 24:3,…

  4. Move Cites/Cited by data to the right pane "custom panel"

In order to reduce patron confusion, I would like see the Cites/Cited by information to be displayed in the right-hand pane. This would reduce confusion and allow patrons to see their search results simultaneously with citations. Additionally, I would retain the title of the result on which I clicked.

This makes functionality more similar to "Related Items"

  6. Correcting Status of "online-first" Citations

Aggregators, such as EBSCOhost, post articles on their websites only after the publisher adds the content in a journal issue. However, they do not take this information into account when providing their coverage dates.

Because of this issue, citations in Summon for such "online-first" articles (such as the ones at https://www.tandfonline.com/action/showAxaArticles?journalCode=tsri20) may link to an error message if the institution subscribes to the journal via an aggregator and not the publisher.

Since "online-first" records have a publication (SSID) and a publication date, if you subscribe to the journal and the article publication date falls within your dates of coverage,…

  7. allow more content types to link out to resource from catalogue

It would be great if catalogue records, which contains an 856, could link directly to the resource from Summon. At present this can only be done if the record is an eBook, eJournal or a Journal.
Linking back to the catalogue record isn't an ideal scenario for the end user when all they wnat is to get to the online resource.

  8. Search keywords should remain after logging in to EZProxy

When users log in to EZProxy from the authentication banner at the top of Summon,
the keywords they were searching just before will be reset, so users will need to enter the keywords again.
It would be convenient for them if the search keywords were inherited even after logging in to EZProxy.

  9. multi-site support

We are based on 2 physical sites but due to subscription costs and specialisms of some resources, a number of our e-journals are restricted to one site. (the majority are now 2-site licences) - we have included all of them in summmon. Currently these resources show in the Summon search results but users on the other site just get dead links. We would like to be able to record these when we select them for the knowledgebase so users from the non-subscribing site just get a message saying to contact the library whilst users from the subscribing site get full…

  10. Sorting results by citation counts

Some databases have an option to sort results by citation counts. This function is also beneficial for Summon user. In fact, I have received requests for this function from some of end users .

  11. Allow to limit search results by word or page count, or a document length range

This should get rid of minor articles such as might appear when searching in newspapers. Also, it might help in further weeding-out book reviews. Plus, there are times users want articles that discuss an issue in-depth and they don't want a 2-page article from some journal. Conversely, I've helped users who get huge articles from journals who would like to find articles that are just 3-4 pages in length, etc.

  12. Restore the ability to search note fields with Basic Search

We request that the ability to search note fields using basic search be restored as before.
The note fields contain many important keywords to help users encounter the materials they need.

  13. Changes to the default content type mapping to accommodate music

The current default MARC field mapping for web resources and computer files includes an option for MARC field 008(026). For most content types, this field position indicates that the resource has online content or is accessed electronically.
    HOWEVER
Music scores and sound recordings have a different set of values for the 008 field. Their data elements for the 008(26) position indicate that the resource has accompanying matter, such as historical information, biographical content, or a discography.

By having the 008(26) as a default MARC mapping for all types, many music resources will get incorrectly identified as web resources or computer…

  14. Automatic holdings update message

Change the link behind the 'New!xx/xx/2019' message that displays when Ebook Central Perpetual and DDA automatic holdings have been updated so that the link displays the updated titles themselves, not the summary screen of total titles held in the package.

It's not possible currently to easily identify which titles have been added on that date to match against Libcentral & ensure all the titles we have access to display in Summon

  15. Create widgets that include limits by publication

Currently you can create widgets with filters by discipline, content type, etc., but it would be very handy to create widgets that could search within a set of publications--for example, if you could add a query for a string of ISSNs and limit the search to certain highly specialized journals. This would be great for niche fields or some disciplines that are not represented in the list of disciplines (like rhetoric and composition).

  16. MUSIC Content Type in Summon

It would be very helpful if Summon could separate music sound content from audio books/spoken word recordings and even from streaming audio. It would finally allow our music users to be able to limit their searches only to music relevant products.

  17. Option to rename CSL citation styles in admin console

At this moment, the name of citation styles provided by RefWorks can be changed in Translataions tab in Summon Admin Console.
As we can now load citation sytles from CSL styles repository, it would be great if library can customize the name of the CSL styles as well.style as well.

Our users search directly for the signature of a book. It would be a good supplement if this search option were supplemented.

  19. "Time Period" facet / filter > needs Reverse Alpha Sort

The "Time Period" facet / filer has sorts by numeric occurrence and by alphabetical sort; however, since many of the terms in the subfield are dates, the ability to find current dates requires you to scroll through way too many entries, since it begins with 1 AD. Request to provide a Reverse Alpha Sort (most recent - call it what you may) - so that users can on demand begin with the current era and work backwards.

  20. Integration of Summon search results when bibliographic records contain both physical and electronic inventories.

If a bibliographic record has the both physical and electronic inventories, Alma pushlishes each inventory as Physical Inventory and Electronic Enventory with different publishing ID to Summon. Accordingly, Summon can't do M&M, shows the multple results. This is not a good design.
