Permalink popups get in the way.
Permalink popups on each records get in the way and hide the clear button when we bring up the permalink window.
And when we tried to click the clear button, cursors and popups blink and do not look very good. I hope that it will be modified.4 votesFixed in the June 5 2024 monthly maintenance release.

Don't force title case in Summon UI for Search Scope Names
Allow the Summon UI to display Search Scope Names as they have been entered by the library instead of forcing them to display in title case.
For example, if the Scope Name is Books and Journals, display "Books and Journals" in the UI, and if it's Circulating Collection (items you can check out), display "Circulating Collection (items you can check out)" in the UI.
Right now, these Scope Names are forced to be displayed as "Books And Journals" and "Circulating Collection (Items You Can Check Out)" for the end user.

Page feed interface for search results page
Currently, Summon displays hidden search results by scrolling down the search results screen. It would be good if users and administrators could select "page feed type" as an interface for displaying hidden search results at their discretion.
0 votesThe "infinite" or "auto-scroll" navigation was replaced in the August 2024 release with pagination.

"Quick Look" - Improve the quick look to be more flexible, including delivering with the four major elements in a "closed" position
Quick Look - improve the quick-look to be more flexible, including delivering the key elements (subjects, table of contents, abstract, etc.) in a "closed" position, linearly in one column, allowing the user to choose which one to see on demand. The fixed display (headed by the 1-25) does not move or actually center on screen (laptops), making the right column data extremely hard to see at the bottom right of the screen. Make the elements "on demand" with clear "back" buttons to return to the quick look landing page. Also the page is not pdf or print friendly, and since…

Toggle on/off for search results autoload
Many users prefer the scroll to autoload search results. As convenient as that is, it is reportedly posing a difficulty for those who must use screen readers at our institution. They need to be able to load one page at a time. It isn't important if the citations per page is 10, 20, or some other number just as long as they can page forward and backward in the results. I would like to see a way for users to toggle on/off autoload for search results. If that is not possible, then adding a way in the admin console to…

Add "Include matches in Full Text" to "some suggestions to improve your search"
It would be helpful if user can re-search by "Include matches in Full Text" on the "some suggestions to improve your search" screen that appears when there are zero results,

Mandatory sender e-mail field in Summon
In summon you can email records / titles, from your search results to others via the small feature in the top right corner. Unfortunately, it is not a requirement that the sender of the email is obligatory to fill in a sender field (There is no sender field at all.)
In principle, you can email posts / titles with associated messages in the note field anonymously! It also means that when we at the library receive such an e-mail, we only know who sent it if the patron added a text that helps us identify him/her.
We therefore suggest that…

Ability to match language settings of Summon with 360Link
The interface language of Summon and 360Link has no connection.
So, when linking from Summon to 360 Link, abroad students have to change both language settings of Summon and 360Link.
This is inconvenient for abroad students.12 votesCompleted as part of the 2023 roadmap, courtesy of ELUNA and IGeLU NERS voting.

publication date filter- no visual indication it has been selected
When a user selects the pre-defined publication date facets (Last 12 Months, 3 years, 5 years) there is no Green Tick used to indicate that it has been selected. The date slider is changed to indicate the dates used, and the dates are filled in, but these are less obvious when selecting other facets.
This can be overlooked by end users when they then conduct another search.
I know that they probably should restart by clearing the Facets/filters but it seems like there is a lack of consistency when compared to how other facets are displayed after selection.16 votesThis was included as part of the facet improvements for the User Interface in the December 2021 Summon Quarterly Release.

No result searches / Did you mean?
We have problems with patrons entering full citations into the Summon search box and getting no results, even though we hold the item in question.
We want the developers to alter the Summon search algorithm so it automatically removes punctuation from searches, enabling more useful search results!
(We already trying to use the translations feature to alter the ‘suggestions to improve your search’)50 votesIn the spring of 2023, we made changes to our algorithm to improve the handling of citation searches. We are now using AI to parse these queries to increase the likelihood of a successful search.
While this improvement may not solve all issues with citation searches, our internal testing shows significant improvement.

Increase the height of the Summon search box
If you have a long search string, e.g.:
(multi-disciplinary OR interdisciplinary OR trans-disciplinary) research funding barriers
You want to make sure the words are spelled and spaced correctly. This is hard to do in the current basic search interface, except perhaps by going back and forth with the arrow keys, or typing your search string in Notepad for editing then copy-pasting it on to the text field.
This is somewhat better in the Advanced Search form but can still be problematic.
A search box that auto expands based on content would be nice.

Collection Discovery for Summon over Alma
Alma has a feature that allows libraries to manage collections of titles by grouping them in categories for easy browsing. Primo sites can expose these curated collections with Primo's built-in Collection Discovery UI. The University of California at Irvine is using it to showcase award winning books in their collection, as seen in this example:
https://uci.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/collectionDiscovery?vid=01CDL_IRV_INST:UCI
We think this is a useful feature and would like the same functionality to be available to Summon over Alma sites.

Make custom panels visible for mobile phone users
There appears to be no way for custom panels to display on mobile phones, which forces us to provide alternative instructions for doing certain things in Summon for people using phones. There should be a way for these panels to display.

Persistent display of all information on "Preview"
If users close "preview" on search results once and then reopen it, some information like Altmetric, Call number, Summary from Syndetic and so on are missing.
Users often reopen "preview" to confirm the detail of information there again. I hope the improvement which reflects this user action to be done.
15 votesThe new Quick Look preview pane released in August 2022 should have addressed this issue.

Ability to filter results by format in Summon, e.g. search for books, articles etc.
As in Primo, provide a mechanism to allow users to search within specific indexes, e.g. to search books, journals, articles separately. This is particularly important when search results cannot be ranked as we would wish, e.g. journal articles before journal titles.
11 votesThis can be done today with Summon's Search Scopes.

Ability to exclude a facet value on the results page
At present you can only exclude a facet value by going into the "More" option. For example the Book Review content type is probably not that useful. So it would be ideal if the was a way to exclude them when the results are displayed. The default action when clicking on the Book Review content type would be to just include this type.
This is something available in Primo and would be a great addition to Summon.2 votesThis was included as part of the facet improvements for the User Interface in the December 2021 Summon Quarterly Release.

Include "Research Guides" as one of the available Content Types in the advanced search.
This was prompted by Alan Cockerill's suggestion in the Summon mailing list for limiting search results to libraries LibGuides by using the "Research Guides" content type. It can be done via post-search faceting, but the advanced search form doesn't show "Research Guides" as a checkbox option for content types. It'd be nice to see that there.
