  1. Include the journal impact factor in the results display

To help our students judge the quality of the results it would be good if the journal's impact factor could be displayed in the results. Or even better, provided as a sorting or limiting option so that students could view results in those journals with the highest impact factor, in the same way they can limit by peer review. Although impact factors are not a perfect tool, it would help get the message across that not all journals are equal. This feature would probably need to be restricted to those libraries with a subscription to JCR.

  2. Include PMID in Advanced search

Add PMID explicitly as an option under Advanced Search along with DOI and others. PMID is heavily used by health sciences fields.

  3. Add a French Dictionary/Encyclopedia (3rd search results pane)

As a francophone (French-speaking) library, we would like to be able to add an authoritative dictionary/encylopedia whose topics can be displayed in the 3rd search results pane. Much like Wikipedia and other encyclopedias.....

    Suggestions - Universalis.fr, Larousse.fr, etc.

  4. Primo Style Search Profile

We would love to see a feature similar to the Primmo Search Profile (https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Product_Documentation/Primo_VE/010Configuring_Search_Profiles) included in Summon. As a Summon over Alma customer, we would love to more easily be able to link out to WorldCat, highlight our Course Reserves, and more.

  5. Add ability to share via SMS items in "Saved Items" folders

Please add the ability to share via SMS items saved to "Saved Items" folders, (either temporary or permanent folders). Right now it seems we are limited to using Print and Email. SMS would be helpful for quick transactions, and finding items in the physical collection.

See this support page and the attached mockup image for more detail.

    Thanks for considering this idea.

  7. Add a Searchable Author Affiliation Index for Summon (Advanced Search)

Most commercial databases offer a searchable author affiliation index. Summon does not in the Advanced Search screen, nor is this information indexed in the Author field contents.

Since they must already have this information in their records, why not create a separate searchable index for Author Affiliation??

For our current awareness, we would like to create RSS feeds for journal articles written by professors from other engineering universities.

    Thanks!

  8. Make OA Content excludable

Right now you can include OA content, which we like. But can we make a way to exclude it for the users who get confused when they expect to see an article and (for most OA articles) are dropped at the home page of the website?

  9. Support the use of French boolean operators

Searching using the French boolean operators - et/ou/sauf -- is not currently fully supported in Summon. This would be a useful addition to those libraries who provide a French interface to their instance of Summon.

  10. Springshare Chat Widgets in Summon Mobile Friendly

We have noticed with the Springshare v2 chat widget (LibAnswers) found in our Summon search page, it completely disappears when accessing it in a mobile device. With most of the links found in the Summon interface (such as the "Advanced Search" and "Add results beyond your library's collection"), they automatically get pushed into the hamburger menu.

Is it possible for the LibAnswer’s chat widget (link) to be automatically pushed there also?

We feel like users using mobile devices should be able to access our Library chat just in case they come across a reference question or would like to report…

  13. Responsive Design layout : Opting out of Topic Explorer for Single Column displays (cell phones)

When using Summon on a cell phone with Topic Explorer, Wikipedia (when enabled) is on top - appearing to be the "number one" result. While having this in a side column is fine, we'd rather not have it so promonent on smaller screens.

  14. Add geographic facet to the results page

The ability to limit the search on the results page with a geographic subject facet. This would allow users to search within their results for items on regional specific items.

  17. When bibliographical records contain two edition statements show both in the results list

I would like to suggest that when bibliographical records contain two edition statements (e.g. Eighth edition and international edition) in separate 250 fields, that both appear in the record in the Summon results list

  18. Journal information appearing condensed in Summon (spacing is needed)

The journal information that shows on our Bib records appears condensed in Summon. It would be helpful to have the information separated with a blank line and the word "location" in bold. If bolding can not be done, a new line between the locations would be very helpful.

  19. Add visibilty of local notes to item detail view

Many libraries add additional notes to MARC records to enhance the findability of items and relevance of search results (e.g., a ToC or chapter listing when not already part of the record). Make these visable to the user.
