  1. Add appointment button in the reading list

Implement an automatic citations button in the bibliographic lists (student view), similar to Primo. This will allow teachers and students to cite the course bibliography

  2. Allow reports on reading lists without citations in Leganto analytics

We often produce reading lists (RL) for courses that only have syllabus selected by the student. These lists don't include any citations, but often have information essential to the students. Our problem is that we can't find a way to retrieve these RLs in analytics, together with RLs that include citations.

Gal Darom said in May 2019 (in the ListServ...), when I asked for help to find all RLs associated to courses:
The relation (data schema) between Courses -> Lists is done through the citations measure, and looks like that “Course -> Citations ->Lists”
The outcome of this relation explain…

  3. Add the citation ID to the citation display in Alma

You can currently search for citations in Alma by ID, but this number does not display on either the 'Edit Citations' (search) or Edit Reading List Citation screens. It is therefore impossible to know the citation ID number unless you obtain it via an Analytics report or by copying it from the end of the citation URL in Leganto. By having the citation ID immediately available in Alma we could greatly improve cross working between Leganto and Alma.

This idea has also been raised as an Alma NERS request (5709).

  4. List/Course status = No list by choice

There are many courses that, for a variety of reasons, intentionally do not have reading lists. The fact that this is deliberate is not immediately obvious though, and confusion can arise when people expect there to be a list connected to the course.

Students might wonder if they are doing something wrong, librarians might have to keep separate spreadsheets to note which ones are supposed to be empty and instructors might be confused when asked to make lists in their LMS.

For these courses, there should be some way to identify that the absence of any lists is by design…

  5. Message at login to users with unsupported Internet Explorer versions

Many websites, such as Facebook, Youtube and Gmail are no longer supporting old versions of Internet Explorer. Older versions of Internet Explorer(IE) have security problems which will never be fixed and using it will leave you vulnerable to all sorts of problems on the internet.

Suggestion: Users receive a message saying that their browser does not meet the minimum requirements for accessing Leganto upon trying to log in with an unsupported browser. They may still be able to log in, but will not be able to view/use Leganto effectively. This has been done for other systems, see for example the…

  6. Improve the visibility of "Publish" list option

We have noticed quite a number of Instructor created lists remain in Draft in error, as Instructors are not always aware when a list is 'draft' or 'published'. The option to 'publish' is hidden within the Resource List options menu. Instead, it would be useful if the 'publish' option appeared as a visible button and hence be easier to find and also possibly serve as a reminder to publish a list.

  7. Lock a section for editing

We would like to be able to lock a section in a reading list.

Some of our courses lasts two semesters, but they only use one reading list divided into sections for each semester. If a section could be locked we could be sure they only edit the section for the coming semester.

  8. Optional fields for more flexible export options

There are various ways to export a list, but the general feedback we get from the consortium is that there is often something missing and/or some elements are irrelevant:
Excel: tags are not included, and there are too many columns otherwise.
Word: with Apa or Chicago, public notes are not included; with the expanded reading style, tags are included, but not in a way that can help sort the citations, and physical location is irrelevant.
The pdf export contains some of this information but is not very print friendly.

In other words, none of the export options covers entirely the…

  9. Add "keep both" option for citation replacement (new edition) feature

The new feature (April 2023) could be used for suggesting alternative titles not just newer editions.

There use cases where the instructor wants to retain the current item and the suggested item.

A "keep both" button that inserts the suggested item into the list immediately after the current item would enhance this new feature.

  10. Add a link to Leganto from individual Citations in the "Citations View" in Alma

It would be useful if there was a 'View in Leganto' link from the Citations view in Alma - i.e. the "Edit Citations" list does not currently (Feb 2018) have a way of getting to the equivalent citation or list from Alma; it seems inconsistent with the Reading List Task List which does offer a "View in Leganto" option to navigate form Alma to Leganto.

  11. Adding metadata to the pop-up window, when asked to confirm deletion of a reference in a reading list

We've had feed-back from one of our instructors that it would be useful to have some metadata (title, author etc.) in the window that opens, when confirming that you like to delete a reference in a reading list. This is in order to be sure you delete the correct reference.
    Would that be possible?

    Thank you.

  12. Option to reset the usage statistics without doing a rollover

We have not used the rollover function in Leganto. Our main concern is that permalinks made in the VLE to sections/citations would no longer work. We have no way of checking where permalinks are in use.

The main thing that we would want to gain from performing a rollover each academic year is to reset the usage statistics which are on view to instructors back to zero, together with any student comments and likes. We are not particularly concerned to create new copies of a course as there is nothing to distinguish one year's module from the next in our…

  13. Service Temporarily Unavailable Message from Primo to appear in Leganto

In Alma, you can configure a "Service Temporarily Unavailable" message via the service labels. This can then be applied to electronic collections in Alma, and displays when viewed in Primo.

As this functionality already exists in Alma/Primo, I feel it should be extended to appear in Leganto as well, otherwise Users are not getting information about services being unavailable.

  14. Fix Cite It! login redirect

When a user hits the Cite It! bookmarklet, if they are already logged into SSO, it works perfectly. However, if they aren't logged in, then hitting the Cite It! button lets them log in and takes them to Leganto. What it should do is capture the URL where they were when they first hit the bookmarklet, then login, then redirect back to the original page and open up the form to save the citation to a list or to the collection. This would make the use of the Cite It! button completely seamless for users.

  15. Notify when a title (esp. electronic portfolio) chosen in a Leganto reading list is deleted in Alma

This idea was originally posted as Alma idea ( https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308173-alma/suggestions/36648628-notify-when-a-title-esp-electronic-portfolio-ch ) but it is probably more a Leganto improvement. Therefore I post it here.

Especially when dealing with electronic titles, for example when importing them, Alma may delete some portfolios.
However, researchers may have previously selected these portfolios for their Leganto reading list. But nobody would notice that, until the students find a broken link in Leganto.

To avoid that right now we perform a manual check, relying on an Analysis looking for Electronic Titles selected for reading lists before running the import, and comparing that with the list of…

  16. Support presentation of reading lists in an iFrame within VLE / LMS

Ex Libris currently do not recommend integrating Leganto reading lists within a VLE / LMS using an iframe, as there is an issue with cookies.

Users receive an "Illegal Institution" message on certain browsers (eg. Safari on macOS) with the cookie policy as in browser default.

We would like to ask for this issue to be re-investigated by Ex Libris and an alternative proposed for roadmap development that fixes the issue without inelegant workarounds such as manually altering browser cookie policies or using a different web browser - noting that these workarounds are not always possible for users depending on…

  17. Allow users (especially students) to add a note when link is marked as broken

When checking the broken link alerts each morning we often have to email the users to diagnose their access issues. It would save time if the user could add a short note at the point when they click 'Mark as broken'.

  18. Recalculate course reserves automatic status if a tag is added to citation

The Course Reserves Automatic Statuses mapping table allows us to automatically assign the status of ‘Complete’ to physical citations (parameter key citation_physical). However, our digitisation workflow requires that a tag called ‘Digitisation request’ is added to the physical citation, in which case, the status of ‘Complete’ is no longer correct. When a specified tag is added to a citation (as configured by the library, e.g. 'Digitisation request') can the status be recalculated automatically and a different status (configured by the library, e.g. 'Digitisation requested') be assigned?

  19. Let the library choose to have "More item details" in Edit item, open as default

We would like to be able to choose to have the "More item details" (when editing a reference) open as default, instead of as a drop down choice like now.

This would make it easier for teachers to see which fields are possible to edit. This will not affect the Save-button, as it is fixed to the bottom.

  20. Make the "Disable Resolving" feature in the Citation details reportable in analytics

Please make the "Disable Resolving" feature (from the Citation details tab in Alma) reportable in the Course Reserves area of Analytics.
This would allow institutions to ensure appropriate citations have resolving disabled. This is essential in cases where publishers do not allow direct linking in any way to their content for course readings.
It would also allow institutions to do a tidy-up of citations which required resolving disabled at some stage but where it's no longer required.
