  1. Allow Search Box Placeholder Text to Be Customizable by VIEW

The search box placeholder text is customizable in the Code Table (nui.search.placeholder) but the change is global. It would be much more useful if the default could be set in the Code Table and then further customized in each view if desired. Or, if that isn't possible, to remove it from the Code Table and just make it a customizable field in each view. Or, if that isn't possible, at least a check box in the view settings that would allow us to remove/hide the placeholder text that was set in the Code Table.

It's great that we can make…

  2. Customize the "View full text in collection" label in CDI

Primo VE shall allow the library to customize the "View full text in collection" label in full record display page under view it section. There are different kinds of "link text" displayed in CDI mode which makes our users very confused.

  3. Possibility to disactivate related link to physical holding (based on ISSN) for articles

On Primo VE, when a CDI record contains an ISSN that matches physical holdings (ie. the catalog contains a physical version of the journal that contains this article), it will automatically add on this record a GetIt section with the related physical holdings.

    Example:

    https://virtuoseplus.sorbonne-nouvelle.fr/permalink/33USPCUSN/1lm7vtm/cdigaleinfotracacademiconefileA391721336

This can be disturbing for the user (and even for librarians), as the get it section shown for this article record contains all the issues in the holding associated with the ISSN, and not only the one containing the article. When the library detains many items in the related physical holding,…

  4. location displayed for resources sharing

Display location field in resource sharing records for other institutions. This will alert us if an item does not cirulate. Of course it woudl be better if non circulating items did not display the resources sharing link (I will open a request for this too), but at least listing the location will help us tell our students why their request was cancelled.

  5. Suppress dedup/FRBR for external records in Primo VE

Following the introduction of support for FRBR and dedup for external records in the February Primo VE release, it should be possible to apply suppress rules for FRBR and dedup to external data, in the same way you currently can for local records.

  6. location displayed for resources sharing

Do not display the resource sharing link for item that do not circulate. This is super confusing for our students. The request link does not display in the other scopes, but cannot seem to be turned off for resources sharing. Our students are requesting items from our sister college that do not circulate.

  7. Add public note field option to import profile service link

We're interested in adding a public note field to the import profile setup for Primo VE that display the same way as the Public Note field in a General Electronic Service does.

  8. Contextual Relationships - chapters

    1. Only display chapters for the volume being viewed, i.e. chapters from vol. 2 of the Cambridge Ancient History rather than chapters from all the volumes (230 in all!)

    2. Display chapters in page number order ( we can’t figure out the logic behind the current order of display)

    3. For multi-volume titles, a “other volumes in this title” link in addition to other chapters from the same volume

  9. Saved search for search term not found in index

Occasionally there is a search term which is new and has not been indexed yet (such as a new species name like Rhenopyrgus viviani). At present we just see just see a 'no records found' message - it would be useful to create a saved search to pick up when this term appears in the literature.

  10. Author/Subjects that include dates

Some authors have the same names so we want to include the date field ($d) in the search when users click on their links within full records. However, we have learned that Ex Libris has hard-coded a facet search into the $$Q, thereby killing this option because you get 0 results (since the facet search includes the date). This is currently not configurable, but is a huge problem for us. Here is an example:
    https://catalog.library.vanderbilt.edu/discovery/fulldisplay?docid=alma991043557451103276&context=L&vid=01VANINST:vanui&lang=en&searchscope=MyInstandCI&adaptor=Local%20Search%20Engine&tab=Everything&query=any,contains,Harry%20Potter&offset=0

Click on the creator "Potter, Harry, 1954- author."

Gives 0 results, with a facet of "Potter, Harry, 1954-"

    Remove the facet…

  12. Add display field Contributor to Fields boosting in Primo VE

Fields boosting in Primo VE has not an option for Fields boosting of display field Contributor. The default rule for Contributor is including 700, 710, 711. As an example, that means if you boost the creator field for a book with three authors the second and third author in field 700 will not get boosted, just the first author in 100.

  13. ORCID to be searchable in Primo VE

I'd like to add ORCID to our catalog records, at least for our ETDs (thesis authors and their advisors), and to have the IDs being searchable in Primo VE.

  14. Primo VE: subject searching with hyphens

When I click on a subject heading in a record in Primo VE (https://catalog.library.vanderbilt.edu/discovery/fulldisplay?docid=alma991029907089703276&context=L&vid=01VANINST:DIVINITY&searchscope=MyInstitution&tab=LibraryCatalog&lang=en), Primo VE does an exact subject search and gets no results, not even the record on which I clicked the subject heading. This only happens with some subject headings, not all. An example: the subject heading Self immolation -- Religious aspects -- Buddhism gives zero results (not even the record which contains the subject link I'm clicking on shows up, nor any other records with that subject heading -- 2 others); while the subject heading Buddhism -- China -- Customs and practices…

  15. Show number of results in Search History

It would be useful to display the number of results associated with a search query when viewing Search History in Primo VE.

  16. Pin Book resource type to top of resource facet list

In university libraries, a task for many users is to find books. However, because Primo VE with CDI returns so many electronic books, the Book resource type is dropped below the "Show more" fold. It would be helpful if Discovery Admin could pin some resource types to the top of the list to accelerate users in this task.

  17. Direct linking for Digital Objects to have an order in case of several DOs

Currently direct linking for digital objects when there are more than one does not follow any order. Hence, when a record has several D.Os any of them could benefit arbitrarily of the direct linking.
For example, take an English record that is accompanied by several DOs of the document in different languages. The ideal scenario will be to have the English Record and Direct linking to the English D.O. and in the Full Display the options to see other language versions. Currently, the Direct Linking takes any D.O. , which could be confusing to users.
    We would like to have…

  18. Collection Discovery tiles should display the pub dates of items

A pub date should appear on the tile even if there is no room for a long title and it would need to be abbreviated. Then, complete bibliographic citation information (at least title, author, publisher, date) should appear when the user mouses over the tile. Also, LC order to simulate a bookshelf browse would be nice.

Our plan is to use Collection Discovery to create collections of new and significant publications in the disciplines to encourage browsing. Providing just the book cover and title and not in LC order is limiting.

  19. Reconvigure Search Algorithm to Highlight Subscription Databases

Some change in the Primo search algorithm now shows free sources, such as DOAJ, as not only the best source, but the only source for some articles, even though the article is available in several of our subscription databases. I always want students to utilize subscription databases over free sources, mostly because the subscription databases add value, such as citation help, and also, we pay for them and I want students to use them. I would like to see the algorithm highlight subscription databases regardless of whether a free source is available.

  20. Searching special characters Ayin or Apostrophe in Primo

In Alma, you get the same results if you include or exclude the special character ayin or apostrophe in your search terms. However, in Primo searches you need to include these special characters. If they are missing, you will not find the same result.

Ayin is used in transliterated title of items in Hebrew, Arabic, Armaic, Syriac, and Korean languages. It is not on a standard US keyboard, so it is difficult for users to include it in the search.

Apparently, Alma uses a different indexing system. We would like Primo to be able to do the same as Alma…
