  1. Make Journal titles hyperlinks

Hi there, users would be helped if search results didn't just bring back links to articles but also had the journal title hyperlinked to take them to the journal's home page or contents page. To help further there could be text box that instructs the user to search for the article they're looking for in the journal's site. Deep links to articles are the most common to fail so this improvement would help students find the articles within journal/publishers sites. Saving time and making them give up less easily.

    Thanks for your consideration.
    Cheers, James

  2. Add 'Show more' - 'Show less' options

Where Primo displays significant amounts of metadata from a single record in search results and the 'Details' section (such as very long lists of authors / subjects or very detailed summaries, contents notes, etc.), it would be useful if the text being displayed was truncated and options to Show more/less were provided for the user.

  3. seperate 'my favorites' from search history

Please separate 'my favorites' from the search history. users dont think to look under my favorites for search history and the title hierarchy does not make sense. My favorites should go to pinned items and a separate tab should exist for search history.

  4. Primo VE: Return to classic Primo method of allowing you to jump through attached holdings

In the old Primo interface, there are buttons for jumping through the holdings attached to a record (see the attached image from UCONN's catalog). In Primo VE, all you can do is click on "show more items" to expand the list to include about 15 more items (see the image from the UC Hastings catalog). If you want to see the latest item received and there are a number of records, you have to click on "show more items" many, many times to get to the end of the list. It would be great if Primo VE could go back…

  5. Pre-load images

Patrons have reported latency for loading search results in Primo. And our observation shows that:
    - Images are always loaded at the last and it normally take a few seconds to be loaded completely
    - The thumbnails are likely meaningful only for books (book covers) while other types are loaded with default icons
Our suggestion: Pre-load image for non-book items (e.g., article, video and etc) in hope to improve user experience with search.

  6. Offer phone view to low-end devices

On mid-tier devices, such as a low-end laptop or a Surface Pro, Primo is very slow to respond, and quickly pegs the CPU doing trivial tasks such as simply scrolling the page. After doing some benchmarking on an Android phone, we discovered that some of the performance issues can be mitigated by rendering the phone view. I request that the more efficient phone view be available to lower-end devices.

  7. Multiple versions of Books not showing as format BOOKS

In both Primo VE and Primo when there are multiple versions of a book , it is not clear that the format is BOOKS. When the multiple version is an ARTICLE this is indicated. Can this be fixed please.

  8. Switching the scope, within a tab, should invoke automatic search

When switching a scope, within a tab, automatic search is not invoked (if the Primo View is configured for automatic search when switching tabs).

This is counter-intuitive because the two dropdowns for tabs and scopes are next to each other but do not behave in the same way. Users are confused when nothing happens after they change the scope.

Here is an example of a Primo View with tabs and scopes. You'll see that changing CSUSM Collection to Media Library does not update the search results automatically. However, changing Books and More to CSU+ invokes the automatic search.

    https://csusm-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/primo-explore/search?query=any,contains,history%20japan&tab=default_tab&search_scope=01CALS_USM&vid=01CALS_USM_DEV&lang=en_US&offset=0

  9. Add 245 subfield c to Primo display

Please add the 245 subfield c to the display in Primo. It does display in Alma. In the example below, you are not able to determine the author/creator's responsibility for the work - Author vs. forward vs. photographer.

    https://cmog.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/fulldisplay?docid=alma991302983504126&context=L&vid=01CORNING_INST:01CORNING_INST&search_scope=MyInstitution&tab=LibraryCatalog&lang=en

We would love to have more granularity in general for what fields/subfields display in Primo for our specific institution.

    Thank you!

  10. Launch Primo Studio from back office and auto-generate your own view

There is the option from the UI customization Package Manager page in the Primo back office to launch Primo Studio, but at the moment you have to manually adjust the URL and view code in order to see your own version of Primo. On top of this, you also have to manually upload your own view package in order to see your own customisations. I'd like this to be improved so that the launch button from the Primo BO automatically launches Primo Studio with your own UI and all of its customisations so that changes can be applied immediately

  11. sticky sort order

the classic UI retained any changes made to the user to the sort order of results, such that a change to e.g. sort by date newest would be retained for the duration of their session. the new ui doesn't work in this way but the ability to set a sticky sort order or to be able to set an individual sort order preference on a user by user basis would be excellent.

  13. Resource Sharing form direct linking to support SAML2 login

Currently direct linking to the Alma Resource Sharing form is only possible with PDS authentication.

We would like to suggest support for SAML Authentication.

The following page on the knowledge centre discusses direct linking to the almarsform

  14. Ability to set Primo into read-only mode (e.g. for closing times)

It would be nice to have a comfortable ability to set Primo into read-only mode (= customers can not make an order) like a button or checkbox in the backend.
Reason: many institutions have closing times in summer (for revision, etc.) and the customers should not be able to make an order. Another reasons are major system changes (e.g. switch from Aleph to Alma) where read-only mode is mandatory.

Until now (classic and new UI) we avoid orders by modifying the CSS file (by using 'display:none;' in several places).

  15. Display Primo Viewit links for Alma-D resources above the general electronic services menu

In the viewit segment of the full record display in Primo, links to electronic resources (Alma-E or online resources) display above links to general electronic services. Links to digital resources from Alma-D display below any general electronic service options. Since accessing the resource (either digital or electronic) will generally be the higher priority for users, we would like links to digital resources to always display above any general electronic services.

  16. Show loans/fines as a pop-up when signing in to Primo (New UI)

We think it would be useful to show users their current loans (especially overdues) and any fines in a small pop up window whenever they sign in to Primo, rather than waiting for them to go to My Account specifically.

  17. Allow the list of items in Favorites to be "printed" as a PDF file

Primo lacks a lot of functionality for printing - most modern data systems allow output of PDF files. This would enhance output on both traditional computers and portable devices.

  18. Don’t reload the app when clicking ‘new search’!

Instead of reloading the entire primo-explore app, we would like to wipe the search query and search results without reloading the app. This would improve mobile experience and also speed responsiveness for the desktop version.

  19. Ability to delete lines from advanced search

At the moment in advanced search in the new UI you can add up to 7 new lines but not delete any of them if you change your mind about a search query and want to delete a line you have added. Clearing just takes you back to the beginning again

  20. “My Favorites” pin should indicate number of records in favorites

In the Primo New UI, there is the “my favorites” pin icon at the top right of the screen (screenshot below of the pin). We ran some usability surveys and found that users would like an indication, via the icon, that something is there. Like the number if pinned items and/or a different color indicating that something is there.
