Add next and previous arrows to detail display
Instead of forcing the user to close the detail display to then click on the details of another record, the idea would be to add next and previous arrows or buttons to the detail display to allow the user to see the next or previous records details.
Thank you for this idea. This was completed as part of August 2018 release.

I agree with Blake in liking the vertical orientation. In my mind I was expecting horizontal, and was briefly surprised to see it as vertical in the webinar. But it was then immediately understandable in the context of the brief results vertical display. I would anticipate users having the same understanding.

@Galen: I thought the vertical orientation was kind of nice, as it retained continuity with the vertical stacking of the brief results. However, I can now see the possible confusion.

Instead of the arrows being positioned vertically to the x (as shown in the May 2018 release webinar preview), can they be implemented horizontally? -the vertical position suggests that they are for scrolling up and down within a single full record.

Nili,
There are two use cases here which I think are worth considering. the first is scrolling within the fulldisplay view from record to record in a result set (and it should take the order of those results in whatever the user has chosen). The second, which I think is a novel idea, is selecting results from a brief results listing and then allowing the user to page through the fulldisplay views of the results they have chosen. I think KF's frustration prioritizes the first view, but I would love a function like the second. just my $.02

We want/need to do both--see brief results, and also navigate result to result. Lost from our "traditional" catalog.

Sometimes browsing the brief list is most helpful, and it is easy to pick out the relevant results from skimming through the titles. There are other situations where it would be more helpful to view the full details. Clicking to see the detailed display, closing it, remembering the title so that you get the next result on the list is extra clicks and extra mouse movements.
1) When the keywords you are searching for are not in the title. If the result is showing up because words in the summary, subjects or other fields matched, it is helpful to see where they occur. In that case, after viewing the full record you must close record and select the next one. It would be much easier to just hit one button for the next detail record.
2) If you have conducted a fairly precise search for a topic, perhaps by clicking on a subject, and sorted results newest to oldest and then need to see the details of an item to make a choice. For instance, you have searched for books about C.S. Lewis and then want to see how long a book is, a table of contents if available, and whether it includes a bibliography, before deciding if it is the one for you. This data is only on the detail display so it would be much easier to go from detail view to detail view instead of jumping back to the list of titles which can be, when you are dealing with biographies of one person, fairly generic (C.S. Lewis, C.S. Lewis : a life observed, Lewis the scholar, Scholar and author: C.S. Lewis...). -

My view is similar to Pat's. For example, when I am helping a student find electronic articles for a paper, we typically need to navigate out to the actual article in order to know whether it is relevant. It would be much faster if we could open the article link from the detail screen, then navigate right to the next detail screen and click on that article link without ever having to go back to the results list.

I want the choice to do either/both. I like the results list as the starting point. Sometimes, yes, skimming and cherry picking is most efficient. Other times, there are several records that are in sequence on the results list and it would save lots of clicks if I could go to the detail display for the first in the list, then use a next arrow to go directly to the detail display for the next title in the results lists, rather than having to close the first detail display, return to the results list, find where I was in the list, and open the next detail display.

For those who would like to see this feature implemented:
Do you prefer to load the full-view of each item in the results list, going over them one-by-one, instead of skimming over the results list and clicking on the result items that are most relevant to what you're looking for? -

I like this one, too.

This would save lots of clicks.
