Ability to select which location appears first
When there are titles held in multiple locations, enable the ability to determine which location will appear first in the record.
This is now available in Primo VE June 2019 release. Primo VE supports the ‘Location Ordering Profile’ configuration in Alma. The locations ordering profile is also available for Alma sites using Back Office as of December 2021 per NERS Enhancement (ID #6676).
Tandem development is expected, to benefit all Primo customers, regardless of deployment model.

As a non-VE library we also would like to add a request to re-open this idea, and based on comments I am reading here, even the fix in VE does not give us what we actually need. Simply put, we need to be able to create a priority list of what locations display ahead of others, so that the most convenient FOR THE PATRON shows in the Primo brief view. I just worked with a student who came to me to get into Archives for a book we had available in the Stacks. This is real-world, not theoretical.

How is this considered "Completed"? The ability to determine which location appears first in Primo VE is extremely limited. It should be possible to set this priority by Primo View, not just IP address.

We're non-VE as well.

I agree! we would like to have a priority listing. We have a lot of textbooks copies in closed stacks. When patrons see the closed stacks collection first, they are confused, and don't open "more locations". We're also non-ve customers.

While "Alphabetical only" is an improvement, it doesn't really answer the idea as written above though. "Ability to select which location appears first" suggests a priority listing. For example, I want X location to appear first because that's the one we want to lend out, G location next because that's onsite and we can find it, K location next because that's offsite and Y location last because that's fragile and we don't want to hand it out much.

What about non-VE customers? Will this configuration also be available for them?

Following up Christian's comment from 4 months ago - should this idea not be closed as in-system, so everyone can get their votes back? Currently 197 votes.

YES PLEASE. Custom priority sort for locations under one library would be wonderful, not only for display but for hold requests

WONDERFUL IDEA!!

It would be good to not only select which library appears first in the list but to also control the order of all libraries in the list. And this should be able to be specified for each view so that the Library the view is for can be sorted to the top for that view and not the other views

Seems to be solved for Alma libraries with the October 2018 release:
Configuring the Order of Locations in Primo Search Results

--> "Use Alphabetical Sorting Only" -

This is an important idea for the patron’s experience of the interface.
It would be ideal if each patron would configure his/her own library's holdings that suits them the best, so that they will see the library that they mostly use (when there are several libraries that share the same Primo interface). -

We would like circulating copies in our largest libraries to display first in Primo, rather than having a smaller library that may not allow books to be loaned showing up first. The first Library is the only named location on the results list and the Details tab in Primo. A more desirable copy at another Library may remain hidden without extra clicks.
Currently in Voyager (we migrate to Alma in May), my institution has a scheme of ASCII characters we use as location OPAC Display Name prefixes to control the alphabetical display. For example, since we want the Main and Science Libraries to display before the smaller collections, we call them
'Main Libraryand
'Science Library
and display other locations further down in the list by using a different character that sorts later, like
:Miller Learning Center Reading Room.Would a scheme like this work for "Organization Unit Names" in Alma?

Holdings in Primo Getit are sorted by "their proximity to the patron, according to the library IP address." [1]. This results in a random list (see screenshot).
We want a sort by library location (A-Z), because this is more intuitive in cases where many holdings exist, e.g. printed journals are distributed at many locations among the university, see example [2].
