Add an option to "expand my results" from the "no records found" page
Currently the "no records found" page doesn't provide an option to "expand my results". Since the default behavior is to search without that option, a properly formed query for an existing item outside our collections yields the discouraging no results page. The message provides suggestions like "check your spelling." Please provide an option to try the search again with "expand my results". Ideally, Primo would know ahead of time if such an expansion would yield results and would only offer it if that was the case.

Add a true "exact" search to Advanced search type
The available search types do not include a true "exact" search, where the results inlcude the query term(s) and only the query term(s). This type of search is very useful for one-word queries, especially when it is a common word. Using "begins with" in these situations can still result in dozens of results. We can construct a search, but it's not something the average user would know how to do, e.g.:
Title begins with intervention
NOT
Title begins with intervention? This is a convoluted construction, and we'd prefer a true "is exactly" search type.
579 votesThe option to perform a search with a new "Equals exact phrase" operator will be available in May 2023 release in Primo VE.

Yael.

Incorporate e-resources in the Virtual Browse tab
We would very much like the option to have the Virtual Browse carousel interfile e- and print resources. Currently the carousel only includes print resources.
Curtin University (http://catalogue.curtin.edu.au/primo_library/libweb/action/search.do) seem to have achieved this (see the 'Further Reading' tab under the search results) and you can clearly identify which are online and which are print resources.
27 votesThank you for this ideas . This is now included with Primo VE December release.

Journals A-Z: Subject-indexing or discipline-indexing of titles
Librarians and faculty members alike would like the ability to search the Journals A-Z list by subject or discipline. This is available in SFX's A-Z/Journal Title Finder functionality, and would be highly useful in Primo as well. User Services and Teaching/IL Librarians would use it to create Subject Guides and other instructional materials, while Collections Librarians would use it to help in acquisitions decision-making. Faculty members would like to refer students to quick lists of discipline-specific resources, as well as use such lists for their own current awareness and professional development.

Copy citations to the clipboard in rich text format
The "citation" tool copies citations to the clipboard in plain text format. Could Primo be modified to allow citations to be copied in rich-text format, in order to preserve the formatting in the citation?

allow all fines (closed and open) to show in patron's library account online
Patrons can only see active fines in their library account, but they need to be able to see all closed and paid fines as well so they can review what has been charged to them and what they have already paid. This is key especially when fines are exported to the bursar office since those are marked as 'closed' and students can no longer review them!

Lateral linking as standard option for more fields
At this moment, lateral links are available OTB for authors and subjects; and can be implemented for local fields.
We ‘d like lateral linking to be a standard option for more fields like : ispartof, relation and unititle.
Use case is a series link in tab Details.147 votesIn Primo November 2017 release we added the ability to configure the requested fields ispartof, relation and untitled as links.

Institutions are able to choose how a record is selected as the record to appear in the results list as part of the frbr process
Where there are different editions of a work available, Primo groups these and uses the record with the richest metadata to display as the top record in the results list. Often this is not the most recent edition of the work. This can be misleading for users who believe the edition appearing in the results list to be the latest edition and so seek this out. For us, this has meant requests for items held on off-campus stores have been requested rather than a more recent edition held on the open stacks. I would like to suggest, therefore, that institutions…
176 votesYou can now define the preferred record displayed for FRBR to be the recent edition – this is coming with Primo November 2020 release and already released for Primo VE in Q2 2020, as part of NERS 6230 – Enable option to favour latest edition of bibliographic work to top the FRBR group.

send eMail for logged in users only
Currently, Primo can be used to send spam via the sendTo in the details tab. Anyone can send a message to everyone. Sending E-Mail should be possible for loggedIn users only. Indeed, there is a google reCaptcha service, but activating it is yet not acceptable due to data protection policy issues of many universities.
68 votesThis is available now in the new Primo Discovery User Interface.

exclude/include reviews from resultlist
There should be an option "expand my results to include book reviews", similarly to the option "expand my results beyond library collection" in the facets. While having reviews in the list is helpful for some tasks (e.g. acquisitions) they appear misleading to our students and we wish to exclude them by default.
119 votesThis idea was completed by changing the the ranking to boost down book reviews.

one-click-unsubscribe link for saved searches emails
saved search emails that are send on regular basis should include a link to quickly unsubscribe from the alert.
It is a common and userfriendly practice to include unsubscribe links in newsletters so they wont need to login to their account to change this. Email alerts may be annoying to the patrons in case of shifting interests unsubscribe/subscribe easily will uplift the usage of this particular service.
6 votesThank you for this suggestion. This was released in Primo in May release and planned for Primo VE in the second half of 2019

Ability to choose more granular subject links and not just the entire string, as in: "Comic books, strips, etc -- Social aspects -- United"
Ability to choose a section of a subject links and not just the entire string. E.g. "Comic books, strips, etc -- Social aspects -- United States" can only be selected as a whole, but not as individual parts, such as "Comic books, strips, etc."

Add AMA (American Medical Association) as Citation Style
Currently, the Primo Action functionality allows for APA, Chicago, and MLA citation styles. In order to benefit students of Medicine and Science, we would like to add AMA (American Medical Association) as a possible citation style.

You can now manage and include additional citation style languages, which are stored in GitHub’s CSL Style Repository -
Enable actions for loans/requests in My Account
Right now in Primo, if you have items checked out at your library, you can't do anything with them in the UI. You can't send to RefWorks, email, etc. Users would like to be able to send these items to citation management tools and they currently can’t do that. From the loan list, there is no link back to the full record.

No way back to original/seed article when using either the new Citations or Cited By buttons
The pages a user reaches when clicking either the new "Citations" or "Cited By" buttons do not provide any way for user to get back to the original/seed article. Making users rely on the browser's back button is not user-friendly.

Improve APA citation format to include the DOI for an article
APA citation format should include the DOI information for journal articles. As recommended by APA.
http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/digital-object-identifier-doi/
However citations from Primo do not include a DOI.
We note that Summon is able to do this and hope that the defect be resolved.
eg from Primo
Hooper, L. (2012). ExLibris's Primo and Musical Research. Music Reference Services Quarterly, 15(2), 119-124.
and from Summon
Hooper, L. (2012). ExLibris's primo and musical research. Music Reference Services Quarterly, 15(2), 119. doi:10.1080/10588167.2012.672088126 votesThank you for this idea, with the enhancement of supporting Citation Style Language (CSL) in Primo, the mapping of data was improved. The DOI is included for APA style taken from CSL official repository

Add ability to change default sort for results
I would like to change the default sort for one of our views from Relevance to Date-newest. Our library has a lot of grey literature which is not handled appropriately by the Relevance sort.
197 votesThanks for this idea.
Changing the default sort is now possible in Primo VE since February 2025 release with the NERS enhancement.
