1. "Feedback Tool" for the New Primo UI: possibility to define the e-mail field as a mandatory field

   We have been using the feedback tool for a few weeks now and have unfortunately received many requests where the users did not provide an e-mail address.
   As a result, we have no way to ask a question or explain the reported behaviour (as it is correct).

   Therefore, we would be glad if the e-mail field can be defined as a mandatory field in the Primo back office.
   A user can of course still enter a fake e-mail address, but then this is a deliberate action.

2. "Feedback Tool" for the New Primo UI: insert the e-mail of the logged in user automatically

   Currently the field "e-mail" in the Feedback form is defined as optional.

   As well as with the current e-mail functionality of bibliographic citations, we would expect the e-mail to be automatically pre-filled when a user is logged in. But unfortunately this does not happen.

   Please insert the e-mail of the logged in user automatically or at least give us the possibility to set this option in the Primo backend.

3. enable a search of parentheses () in middle of word

   Currently, Primo is unable to retrieve titles containing parentheses in the middle of a word (eg א(י)מניות : אימהות מביאות אמנות לעולם). It seems elementary that Primo should be able to retrieve any record based on its exact title.

4. Add ability to save a record with a label while in the full record (Saved Record with label to My Favorites)

   I'm a student reviewing a list of results in Primo for a new assignment. I only have a bit of time right now to start my research, and in this first session I want to save articles which look like they meet my topic. Then I plan to come back on another day when I have more time, to do more detailed assessment of the articles I saved, read the full text, and start writing my assignment. I'm using a label to organise the articles in My Favorites, because I have quite a few topics for several assignments due in upcoming weeks.
   What I want to do is quickly review the top few pages of results, looking at the article record information, decide if I want to save specific articles with the label I've set up, and then use the next result arrow to keep reviewing.
   I find this quick flow is impossible, because when I'm looking at an article I can only save it and I don't have any option to assign my label.
   I'm forced to take myself out of the review process repeatedly to 1. close the record, 2. make sure I'm looking at the right record, as there are several visible on screen, 3. click the checkbox beside the record, 4. click the Pin icon at the top of the screen, 5. choose my label (or create it, if the first time), 6. uncheck the box beside the record, and then 7. open the next record to keep reviewing results.
   I find I have to uncheck the box each time, because if I don't then I accidentally remove prior saved articles when I do these steps all over again to save the next article.
   I also find if I keep using next results so that I go onto the next page, then I lose my place. I was looking at an article, then clicked the next arrow several times until I found another article I wanted to save. I wasn't keeping count of where I was, because I was focusing on reviewing the articles for my topic, and there isn't any number shown on the article details to help me orient myself, like there is in the results list. Then, when I closed the record to pin it with my label, I found myself at the top of the results again, but this time it starts at No.10 and it doesn't look like the article I wanted to save. I then have to take more time to re-review several results over to find the article I wanted again (which was actually quite far down at No.16).

   All of these clicks and extra time navigating around could be avoided if I could simply click pin and select my label at the point of deciding I want to save it, which is while I'm looking at the record details. It would also help if the result number was on the record details as well, just like it is in the results list, to help me orient myself quickly.

   This was with the development in November 2019 for bulk selection in brief results with access to the Pin icon to add labels, after the checkboxes are chosen. This met only one aspect of the idea for brief results, and did not meet the aspect of when the user is in the full record display, and decide they want to save the record with a label where they are right now at point-of-need, without having to close the record to access the label option in the brief results.
   From that submission: "When a user pins an item to My Favorites from the search results or detail view, the item goes to My Favorites without a label. Users would like to choose the label at the time they pin it."

5. Support the use of wildcards within phrase searches

   At present, the use of wildcards within a phrase search is not supported in CDI. This functionality is supported when searching local records only but does not work when searching CDI or using a blended scope. Since the goal of discovery is to provide a single point of access to local and remote collections, it follows that both indexes should support the same search functionality and operators.

6. Data accompanying article

   How will you keep datasets or articles being lost because they share the time title? It is becoming more and more common for articles to have accompanying data and from your description of match and merge, it seems that this may result in either the dataset or the article being excluded from search results. 7. Ability to move search by voice or add more space between the three buttons

   It would be useful to be able to move the "search by voice" function or expand the space between it and other buttons. As currently it is too close to the submit search button and cancel search button. Meaning that students and staff sometimes click on this accidently. It would be useful to be able to move this or make the spaces between these three items a bit larger. So these accidently clicks didn't keep happening.

   Primo does not work with some date formats used for old material and rare books. The biggest problem is that Primo only recognises 4-digit dates and does not accommodate date searches for pre-1000 dates that have 3 digits or less. This issue greatly inhibits searches for a significant number of users of archives and rare material collections.

   Primo also does not work well with dates in square brackets that include text and unknown dates that have a question mark or dash instead of the wildcard character ‘u’ - e.g. [i.e. 1973], [between 1772 and 1802?], 195? or 195-. These are all valid date formats that follow international bibliographic standards and are frequently found in bibliographic records. It would be beneficial to our users if these issues could be addressed and fixed.

9. Allow patrons to order a specific item in a fulfillment network

   Hi

   We are in a consortium with a fulfillment network.

   Which in many cases means that the patrons can not pick which copy of a book they want to order.

   While this may make sense as the default (1), it is frustrating for many patrons, myself included.

   • When more than one copy is available, I want to be able to decide which one to get
     
   • When a book is on loan I may prefer to wait for the copy of my favorite library to come back instead of getting the book from somewhere else

   This is especially relevant when I'm in a setting where getting a copy from another library costs me money.

   The option 'choose specific item' should be available in the full title display (when logged in). If this is not possible, it could be an option in the patron settings.

    We would like to suggest the option to hide the digitzation button when all items of a title are on loan / unavailable.
    Currently, titles can be requested for digitization while all items corresponding to a title are on loan or unavailable, which can result in significant waiting periods between requesting a title for digitization and the fulfillment of said request.
    Therefore, we propose that the digitization button only appears when an item is available for the title in question. This would benefit patrons, since they can assume that if a request can be made, it will be processed right away.

    Primo Name/Title Browse Searches

    As frequent Primo users searching for known music items, the Alma Music Users Group would like to propose that Ex Libris create a left-anchored browse search for name/title entries found in bibliographic records. An alphabetical left-anchored browse search is particularly helpful for known-item searches that are often used for music materials and prolific literary authors.

    Currently, Primo provides browse search options for names (name portion only ($a,$q,$d)) and name/title headings used as subjects. For prolific authors, it is not unusual to find thousands of name/title headings lumped under the composers or authors name, with “20+ records” displayed adjacent to the heading. The Primo Browse Search options should include an alphabetical left-anchored “browse” listing for all name/title headings found in bibliographic records.

    The left-anchored browse name/title index search for authorized access points should include the subfields from the 700 name portion of the heading, as well as subfields from the 700 title portion of the heading ($t, $f, $m, $n, $r, $l, $k, $p, $o, $s), displayed in the order in which the fields are transcribed in the bibliographic authorized heading. The browse name/title index should also include the name/title information from the 100/240 fields, including the subfields from the 240 ($f, $m, $n, $r, $l, $k, $p, $o, $s), displayed in the order in which the fields are transcribed in the bibliographic authorized heading. In the event that the 100/240 combination cannot be included as the left-anchored browse search is developed, it is critical that these fields are added as soon as possible.

    In addition to a browse name/title search that retrieves results from the 7xx fields, the subject browse search should include name/title headings used as subject headings found in the 6xx fields.

    The browse indexes should display 4XX and 5XX cross-references and public notes such as the 680 found in authority records. Associated name and title strings must be kept together for both indexing and display. The cross-references are critical in helping the user to find items known by various titles in various languages. The 4xx and 5xx displays should be linked to redirect the patron to the appropriate section in the index.

    Benefit: Without a left-anchored browse search, there are too many false drops and omissions when searching for materials by prolific authors and composers. The left-anchored browse results in a more focused and complete search result, helping the user to quickly find all items with the same authorized access point.

12. Enable retrieval with/without/compound hyphens in Hebrew

    It is very important to enable the search in Primo with and without hyphen to retrieve all relevant records (with hyphen, without hyphen and as compound words).
    Some examples of current discrepancies in retrieval are:

    צפון-קרוליינה retrieved 2 results
    צפון קרוליינה retrieved 486 results

    עת-מול retrieved zero results
    עת מול retrieved 83 results, including the title עת-מול : עתון לתולדות ארץ ישראל ועם ישראל. ‬

13. Add expand search (outside Imperial) into search scope

    When users and staff are searching Primo. Many of them want to run an expand search straight away. Rather than searching everything and then clicking on expand search.
    Solution: it would be better if expand search (outside imperial) could be a search scope. Although users the chance to search expand search straight away.

    User Story - When staff and users are creating an advanced search. Sometimes they want to search with an expanded search (outside Imperial). However, currently staff have to run the advanced search then click on expand search (outside Imperial). Solution: It would be better if expand search is added to Advanced search as an option.

    We switched to Primo VE some months ago and are really missing a call number index that shows all our call numbers, in items as well as in holdings.

16. Add “Request another item”, “Check current requests” and “Close” options to “Request placed” page

    See the current Request placed page display attached. Add “Request another item”, “Check current requests” and “Close” options to the “Request placed” page that displays after a Primo Resource Sharing request has been placed. Also, add the ability to customise the link text, add explanatory text and generally customise the page. Our clients sometimes need to create several requests at the same time. Currently the required navigation back to the request form is not obvious. The end user must know to close the current browser tab or select the original Primo tab to the left and then re-select the Interlibrary Loans link from the main menu. The ability to seamlessly access the request form would minimise confusion and save time. The ability to immediately access the myLibrary Requests tab to check which requests have been placed and their statuses is also desirable. Currently if the end user wishes to return to Primo s/he must either close the current browser tab or select the original Primo tab to the left. The ability to select a “Close” link on the page would provide a superior user experience. The current “Request placed” message that displays at the top of the page can be overlooked while the rest of the display is empty. The ability to customise the request placed text, links text, to add explanatory text and to make CSS changes would allow us to maximise the user experience

    Provide the ability to view historic requests including Alma Resource Sharing requests: • It is important for patrons to be able to see what they have already requested. If certain items are requested more than once copyright might be infringed. • Cancelled requests (by both the requester and the library) should be included • It should be possible to filter the list by request status and request type • Alma Resource Sharing requests should be included.     It would be good to change the text of an existing label(s) used on saved items.

    For instance to be able to change a label from "ethics" to "research ethics".

19. Let patrons collapse elements of the full title display

    Hi

    There should be a setting in the patron account where they can decide which elements of the full display of a title are collapsed and which are open.

    The patrons are confronted with a lot of information of which only a small part is relevant to them – but which part they consider relevant can be different.

    You can collapse 'Get it from other institutions' (https://www.carli.illinois.edu/products-services/i-share/discovery-interface/custom_package_collapsegetitother) – in the same way it's probably possible to collapse the other elements, too.
